Semester: 1 Assignment: Strategies for Success
Due Date: 9/10/17 Success can be measured in multiple ways, depending on the person and on the circumstances. I entered into the accelerated nursing program with the goal of successfully completing the required courses and ultimately becoming a successful nurse. This program is very fast-paced and requires a lot of time and effort in order to be successful, so it is important to create a plan in order to successfully complete the program with the appropriate knowledge and skills. Included in my plan for success are multiple strategies that I will apply every day for the duration of this program. My plan is to make my nursing

In the video, “Test-Taking Strategies for Student Success”, there were many tactics that I found helpful in creating my plan. One of the first strategies mentioned was critically thinking about the information, rather than just memorizing. Memorizing information will not help me learn, especially in this field. I must understand the material and know how to apply it to different situations. The video also mentioned not reading into exam questions and instead taking them at face value. I have a tendency to think too much into questions, out of fear that it is a trick and that I might get the answer wrong. By reading through the question word for word, I will understand what exactly the question is asking of me and choose the appropriate answer. Also mentioned were questions regarding priority. Safety and the ABC’s (airway, breathing, circulation) are always very important. Questions regarding the nursing process can be tricky, because although it may be a question about the assessment, an answer choice may describe evaluation (Lynn). These tips come in handy when answering practice questions and will be beneficial during my exams. Most importantly, I must think like a nurse to answer these questions. I will eventually be practicing these skills in the field, and in order to make the right decisions, I need to use critical thinking and apply the knowledge that I’ve
The role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in health care has been identified as a critical role in the goal to provide high-quality health care. APRNs have a bigger role to play in the health care system and it is important that students are provided with relevant and valuable knowledge as well as experience that improve their abilities. Achieving course objectives are critical for APRNs with the goal of contributing positively to the health care system. As a future APRN, I place high priority on life-long learning and the development of other people’s skill sets. All duties associated with health care require a dedication to excellence and selflessness. These are two components of learning that will improve the capabilities of
Relate personal learning style to preparation for the NCLEX-RN: Critical thinking and being able to work together with the healthcare team is a key to be a successful nurse and providing the best care to the patients. A nurse should understand the disease process to fully understand how to care and organize a plan to care for assigned patient. This concept will also help me learn and understand better and eventually apply this knowledge toward NCLEX as well. My goal is to exhibit the use of my critical thinking skills throughout assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care (ADPIE). Much of the nursing school courses specially medical- Surgery centered around evidenced based which now I can see how to relate them into capstone course and eventually helping me to pass NCLEX.
In When Success Leads to Failure, Jessica Lahey is faced with a tough situation involving a student, whose love for learning is fading, and a parent who does not seem to understand why. Lahey establishes that parents are starting to teach children to fear failure, and the fear is what is destroying their love for learning (Lahey). I support Lahey’s proposition that kids are beginning to hate learning because children are taught that failure is not an option. In today’s society, many teachers and especially parents push children to only strive for success and to fear failure, which results in many children’s growing hatred for learning.
It has been over one year since I have started the accelerated nursing program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. When I first started the program in fall 2014, I have no idea what nursing was like. Although I had my bachelor from another institution, everything I learned was very different compared to the information I have learned in School of Nursing. Nursing school has slowly transformed me into a graduate professional nurse based on the professional development that I have completed along the way.
This is a great opportunity for students to evaluate themselves and acknowledge their weaknesses and strengths. This paper will discuss my success plan in nursing program.
Nursing involves alleviating suffering by doing a diagnosis and treatment of human response, preventing illness and injury to individuals, populations and communities. The professional growth in the provision of patient care depends on setting goals that contribute to development of the career and skill enhancement as the caregiver. Goals in the nursing profession can be short term or long term. Short term goals are those that are achievable in a short time frame and more immediate as they take one to two years. They help in reaching long term goals.
When taking tests, try not to read deeper into the question by asking, "what if?" Instead, focus on the information given and decide what the question is asking. Strategic words make a difference when trying to understand what the question is asking. Look for words such as immediate, initial, first, priority, side effect, or toxic effect. When dealing with multiple choice questions, always use the process of elimination. Whyen options have been eliminated, reread the question to make sure the chosen answer makes sense. To answer the question, use all nursing knowledge, clinical experiences, and test taking strategies.
“Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value” is how Albert Einstein defined success, so is that what it really means to be successful? Over time people in society have developed a view that celebrities and wealthy people are a true representation of success. But what truly defines a person of success? Merriam Webster states that success is a “favorable or desired outcome; also: the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.” Although most people admire this definition, success should really be defined as this: it cannot be achieved until witnessing failure and is not the same for each individual which encourages various definitions, and how success is reached through a journey filled with obstacles, not easily attained.
I believe that hard work is the real treasure of a person because without hard work we cannot achieve our dreams and goals in life. No one can achieve success without doing hard work. It starts when we stop looking for alternatives or shortcuts towards success. We need to remember that there are no short cuts to success. Hard work, complimented with an intense desire to struggle and to achieve success is the only sure way of reaching success that you have always wanted. Hard work is one of the secret for us to be successful in life. Laziness and sluggishness makes one’s life a curse and only hard work can make your life a blessing. We cannot work hard if we don’t have goals. The meaning of goal according to Wikipedia is a desired result of a
“How will I be successful?” I think to myself, wondering where my life will take me. The dictionary has many definitions for this term, such as the accomplishment of one’s goals and the attainment of wealth, position, honors or the like. A variety of people have a plethora of definitions for the word “success.” Some define it has having limitless amount of wealth, with an enormous mansion and an array of extravagant cars. Others define success by the relationships they have and waking up in the morning content with the life they have created for themselves. Week twelve focused on test taking. In order to test well in nursing classes, there are four areas you need to master to be able to answer questions. Those four areas being knowledge, comprehension, application, and analysis. Each part builds on one another with knowledge coming first and analysis coming last. Most of our exams ask critical thinking questions at the application and analysis levels. What I took away from that tutorial is that, having the knowledge and understanding on topics going into an exam, will allow you to apply what you know. If you don’t know the first step- knowledge, answering critical thinking questions will be difficult. In another tutorial it talked about priority questions and how to answer them. In those types

Over the length of the semester, many things have been taught and many skills have been learned, all to help myself be successful. I believe that some important skills that have been taught were motivation, personality, communication, time and money management, and critical thinking. Using these skills has helped me to have great relationships with the faculty and students of FSW in my first semester.
“The failure is the mother of success” this Chinese quote said that failure is not the end. Failure is where people learn from their mistake. People cannot be successful all the time. Indeed, there are many people who learned from their failures before being successful. Each failure that people had met is a helpful lesson and valuable experience to help them become a better person.
