Prompt on the Story of an Hour The cause of Mrs. Mallard’s sudden death has multiple interpretations. I conclude that the cause of her sudden death was that she finally felt free that her husband died. She felt like a slave for being married to her husband and not being able to do anything without begin told or asked. So at the end of the story when she saw that her husband was still alive and that he never even heard or was near the accident she ended up dying of a heart attack. This story shows a history of feminist thought. In this story it describes in the beginning that Mrs. Mallard has a heart condition. This story is very short and is composed of three parts that are easily understood but can be interpreted in many ways. An interpretation I got from the death of Mrs. Mallard was that she was surprised to see her husband after being told that he died in a train accident. She was surprised that he was still alive and there. She was surprised and shocked from crying and feeling miserable. I would assume that her husband was also shocked from seeing the expression and how his wife looked at the top of the stairs. He probably was also shocked when she had a sudden heart attack when he walked in through the door and saw her at the top of the stairs. So the …show more content…

Mallard died suddenly after she felt free and then seeing her husband made her die of a heart attack. How convenient is that? So much irony took place in this story. When men read this story they were deeply offended. I think she died of a broken heart. Maybe she was extremely sad at the thought that her husband was still alive when he arrived with her sister’s husband at the front door. She was probably sad that she could not live with freedom and that she would be a slave again. She felt a slave in her marriage because the way the story describes that she kept thinking that she was free. And how Mrs. Mallard kept saying free, free,
