Dynamic Character:
Alby is a dynamic character in the story the Maze Runner. The drastic changes that Alby went through after the Changing are clearly apparent. He is the dynamic character because in the beginning of the story he is nice and also strict and is a leader that manages the Glade. After getting stung by the griever and going through the Changing he becomes very different. He doesn’t want to be the leader and he becomes depressed, crazy and acts differently. It seems like he becomes a whole new person.
Static Character:
I believe that Chuck is the static character in the story the Maze Runner. His character stays the same throughout the story. He stays funny, kind, friendly and loyal to Thomas. He helps Thomas when he first arrived in the Glade. He always cared for Thomas and had a strong connection with him. He supported Thomas even though some people suspected him and at last in the end, Chuck sacrificed his life to protect Thomas from getting killed by the knife. Chuck is a static character because his loyalty, attitude and character remained the same throughout the story.
Setting:
The main setting of the story is in a mini society called the Glade. We don’t know where in the world the story takes place, we only know that it is called the Glade and is surrounded by maze, which isolates the society from the rest of the world. There is also no specific time, but could be assumed and believed it is sometime in the future. The Glade is a society separate from the rest of the world and there is no way out of it. The Glade is located in the center of the Maze and is surrounded by a maze in all four directions. It operates like a society and has farms, gardens, forests, graveyards, buildings, and a courtyard. It has f...

...omas’s best friend in the Glade acts as a foil to Thomas. Thomas and Chuck develop a bond with each other and Chuck acts foil that really brings out the main character of Thomas. Chuck is often wondering about what life would be in the real world and really wishes they can find the way out of the Maze, so he can go back to his real world. Thomas makes a promise to Chuck, that he will return Chuck to his old life. This promise and Chuck are what shows the reader Thomas’s quality and his determination and drive to reach his goal. It shows how strong Thomas’ friendship is and how he is able to sacrifice everything for his friend. Chuck also brings out the adventurous and brave attitude of Thomas towards the reader. I think Chuck is the foil character of the story because he is the reason why Thomas’ traits and personality are revealed to the readers of the Maze Runner.
Now Thomas from The Maze Runner has to keep moving he doesn’t look back he has to keep on moving forward (or backwards, wherever the maze takes him). Besides Chuck (which was probably his best friend at the time) he left them for
In the Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, Chuck is a vital character in the movie who symbolizes innocence. Chuck is the youngest boy in the Glade and he is a bit on the chubby side as well. These characteristics alone already differentiate Chuck from the rest of the boys. Chuck befriended Thomas the first day he was welcomed to the Glade. Throughout the movie, Chuck portrays his innocence by believing in Thomas’s abilities, choosing not to participate in savage-like practices, and dying at the hands of Gally to save Thomas.
People do not have to fly to be hero, it takes much more. Many heroes of today are shown to have supernatural powers that makes them acquire amazing abilities, flying, super strength, skills to manifest anything, the list goes on. Our heroes in the present time are perceived by the audiences' mindset to have special powers but there are times where being a hero does not need to have all the extra tricks. Thomas, a character in The Maze Runner is thrown unconsciously with no memory into a place of the unknown called the Glades, consisting of only teenagers inhabiting the area. He would soon find out the whole place is bordered by a big wall that closes by night and day to protect them from the maze that are filled with demonic machines that will kill on sight. This begins his adventure, eager to learn what is out there and willing to become a maze runner which is equivalent to being a tribute for the greater good in their little homemade society. Having powers might help to become a hero, but in the dystopian novel The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, his protagonist Thomas demonstrates the hero journey in a more natural way by crossing the threshold, meeting a mentor, and lastly having tests, allies and enemies.
The Maze Runner by James Dashner begins when Thomas, the main character, wakes up in the Box and only remembers his name and nothing about his past. The doors of the box open up with a bunch of boys looking down at him and they get a rope to pull him up. Thomas saw that the place was mostly farmland and was surrounded by very high walls. The place was known as the Glade and outside the Glade was the Maze. Everyday the walls of the Glade close to protect Gladers from getting eaten by massive monsters that live in the Maze called Grievers who usually came out at night. Each month a new boy was sent to the Glade in the Box. Every week supplies are delivered in the Box for the Gladers to use. Thomas meets the leaders
Thomas finds out that in the maze, the walls that are moving aren't just moving randomly, but they are actually spelling out letters and words which is a clue for them
James Dashner was born in Austell Georgia, on November 26, 1972. In College James studied accounting, but then switched to writing because he thought that fit him better. After quite a few tries he eventually created the character Jimmy Fincher. He also wrote other series such as The 13th Reality and The Maze Runner. The Maze Runner was eventually made into a movie in 2014, and it became very
For my book report I read a dystopian fiction called The Maze Runner by James Dashner. The main character is a teenage genius, wiped of all his memories, named Thomas. The tall lanky boy is put in a whole new civilization with no important memories of the world, his family, or even his purpose in the dreaded place.
The Maze Runner, a Novel By James Dashner, verbalizes about a boy that arouses in a metal box with no recollection of who he genuinely really is, when he soon realizes that he is in an elevator being taken to a place called “The Glade”. Lay there a community with males only, every week come supplies and every month a new person comes. A place circumvented by 4 equilateral walls, and hundreds of feet in height. Each of the sides have an opening precisely in the middle, but only one of the sides open daily. Outside those inscrutable walls lies a dismaying maze. 2 people called “The Runner's” study the maze and perpetually attempting to find a way to get out while challenged by mysterious alien-like creatures are called Grievers, they are dark,
Corrupt leaders and the governments laws are a major factor as to why societies fall. The society depicted in Maze Runner was very top heavy in and outside of the maze, and mainly controlled by this association who went by the name of W.I.C.K.E.D. Nazi Germany fell almost because of the same thing, their leader Hitler hungered for power and basically made it so whatever he said was law.The evidence of a collapsing social system is very evident throughout the story Maze Runner. For example “‘Gardens-where we grow crops...Blood house-Where we raise and slaughter the animals...’The grievers will kill you all-one every night till it’s over!’”(Pg. 43 and 256) This shows that they need people to do their jobs and the society inside of the Glade was very dependent upon whether or not they have people to work in places like the blood house, and that without enough people to support everyone else by doing their job the society will collapse very quickly.
...ealed to be Gally, and as a final part of the test he pulls out a knife from his pocket and throws it at Thomas. Before he can react, Chuck throws himself in front of Thomas and with his dying words he asks Thomas to find his mother. Thomas attacks Gally before breaking down in tears and feeling overwhelming guilt, since he had promised Chuck he would get him back to his family.
Charles is actually Laurie which means that Laurie is arrogant because he talks about himself a lot. Every day, Laurie comes home and tells his parents about the day’s events, the topic that always comes up is Charles. The way Laurie talks about Charles makes him sound like he is someone who makes a great friend or that he is actually popular among other school children but his parents think that Charles is made up of “toughness and bad grammar” (1). Laurie talks about Charles to the point that it has become a “routine” (2). When children talk about someone very much, it usually means they either admire that person or the complete opposite like a child would go on and on about a superhero. The language he uses to describe Charles to his parents also suggests that he thinks Charles is not a bad influence. He mentions to his mother that even though Charles gets into trouble and the teacher warns the class not to play with him, everybody still does. Laurie makes it sound as if everybody thinks Charles is likable enough for everybody else t...
The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox written by Maggie O'Farrell is a book that completely captivates the audience, its jaw dropping and shocking. It shows the reader a look into multiples perspectives each with very colorful backgrounds. One of the most highlighted archetypes seen through the story is the maze. Now a maze archetype “is a text which requires a character to traverse a path which leads him or her through multiple challenges and dead ends” which is depicted several times throughout the story by using this archetype O’Farrell is able to have a theme which revolves around the strength of her character and the weakness of a society.
In conclusion Thomas is portrayed as a heroic, caring and compassionate character. Thomas proves he is heroic when he risked his life to save both Minho and Alby. He also proves to be caring when it comes to his young friend, Chuck, by acting as a brotherly figure. Minho is portrayed as a brave and intelligent character throughout the novel. Minho can be seen as intelligent when he deceived the entire council of Gladers into agreeing to make Thomas a runner. He is also perceived as a brave character when he ran toward the cluster of grievers, risking his life so he can figure out where their camp is.
In The Maze Runner, Thomas and a bunch of other guys from the glade are stuck in a giant maze with no way out. Thomas is the main character and this is how he follows the hero’s journey and becomes a hero. Reasons are Call to adventure, Ordeal, Death\, and rebirth, Crossing the threshold.
