The purpose of this paper to is reflect back on the Story Based Learning (SBL) group project. I will discuss the use of my strong relational practice still that lead to the development of group round rules that allowed us to communicate with each other. I will discuss how the challenges our group faced as: ineffective communication and one of our group member lack of preparedness. I will give you my personal feelings about the SBL assignment and our presentation. Next I reflect on the peer feed back received and reflect back on my own performance.. Our group took the time to rehears our presentation twice and each time we did it she would break down in eyes when she finished. It was disruptive to our rehearsal as we were timing ourselves and this behaviour distracted the next presenter. The first time it happened she made the excuse that she was just not prepared enough for the rehearsal and we were all supportive. We let her know that we were all in this group together and that she had done a great job. The second time we rehearsed the same thing happened again. This time it obviously caused some tension in the group. We could not tell if she was till unprepared or if she was just nervous about public speaking. Again she was reassured. I am not sure there was much more we could do to help her with her confidence. She does a very nice job of presenting, her speech is clear and is at a smooth rate. They pack a lot information from a large group in to a very short period of time. There is so much work and preparation that goes in to a project that felt a little like a review, meaning I do not think we presented the class with anything new but applied nursing knowledge to Peters story. In our presentation I feel that there where a few key point that were made clearly: the palliative approach to heart failure and discharge planning after an acute exacerbation of heart failure. I loved the discharge video we made for our presentation. Thinking back on the video we made and class we had on heart failure when Tammy Mclean visited, and I think an effective way to engage our class would have been to live act our SBL or even create a video and pause it every now and then to engage the class ask questions and allow questions to be asked. Over all I feel we did the best we could, talking fast and not engaging our audience as much as we could so we could show our video. Based on the peer feed back forms the audience loved the video and were very supportive of our presentation

I am thankful that I had this experience. What I found in watching the video, was that I need to work on my speaking ability. Fewer giggles, an increased grasp of words, and working on leading students to correct answers through asking the right questions. My strengths included beginning the session by introducing ourselves to each other and creating a welcoming environment. I intentionally worked to invite all the students by name to offer their opinion on the videos and stories. I deliberately incorporated the teaching methods that we were taught that Jesus used, beginning a lesson by first asking what your students already know or believe, then complimenting them on what they knew. During the lesson the teacher is allowing the students to discuss and think about what is occurring in the story. The teacher is implementing this by allowing and allocating time for debriefing in between the story. By doing thing the teacher gives the students the opportunity to use their KWL Charts throughout the lesson just in case something has been answered, or if a new idea were to appear. During my demonstration speech, I was affected by my speech anxiety. Some of the viewable symptoms were the shaking of my hands and also the stuttering of speech. I was able to control myself and relax after I started getting into my information. I did use some of the suggested relaxation techniques to relieve my anxiety. Before I got up to speak I thought confident of myself to help give me courage and confidence.
However, I did notice that there were a few faults in the presentation, one being a fault that I personally consider may have negatively impacted our presentation. It seems to me that I was not able to deliver the presentation to the best of my ability as I had let my nerves get the best of me when talking to the staff. The reason for this was that I was not comfortable with taking on the speaking role that I was given and that there were last minute changes made to my slides right before presenting. The Lesson- I will be teaching point of view and perspective. Through this lesson students will be expected to identify the point of view of stories based on clue pronouns. We started this lesson by taking notes on four different point of views and the clue pronouns associated with each point of view. Then we discussed stories we have read and their point of view. Finally we ended the lesson with a writing assignment where each student had a picture and they had to write a story about the picture in first person, second person, and third person limited and omniscient. The following day the first assessment was given. The next week we reviewed the lesson adding the J factor to it. I created a prezi reviewing our notes taken the week before, this included a fun point of view song by flocabulary. Then we played a mingling game. Storytelling is an art of expression that has been existent for the at least the last two millenniums. Nobody knows when this art form had originated but people have assumed that storytelling history dates back as early as the BCE era. Storytelling was popular among earlier human life that inhabited the world. The earlier generations of Native Americans would use storytelling as part of their culture whether it was an activity to pass time or to bond with the family and their tribes. In Azar Nafisi’s “Selections of Reading Lolita in Tehran”, she uses various literary works to share different experiences with her students. Different books were discussed by Nafisi to give the students insight on the world outside of their own. Whereas Tim O’Brien’s “How to Tell a True War Story” defines the purpose of a war story while telling his own about his experience in Vietnam with his battle buddies. In addition to telling his story, he also throws in some tips on how to tell an effective war story. Stories do not just contain characters and a plot line; it also contains life lessons and morals that could be applied to almost anyone. These stories are often passed onto the next person through the art of storytelling. The purpose of storytelling is to share personal experiences and lessons with people in hopes to teach or inspire them when creating their own experience. People tell stories to share the unforgettable moments that gave them a range of emotions and in return, people read these stories to learn about those moments and relate to them with moments of their own.
The story map I have created is to be used as the explain element in an inquiry-based lesson. The story map breaks down how and why beach erosion occurs. Each factor of beach erosion that is mentioned is explained. The story map is easy to follow and comprehend for students that have little or no background knowledge of erosion.
