Stock car racing has evolved a great amount since 1920’s when racing first started. The cause of racing was because of the Prohibition. The 18th amendment banned the production and possession of alcohol. So people had to make their own liquor, called moonshine. In order to make money from liquor, part of the job was to deliver it to their customers, but with the law enforcements trying to obey the new law, Moonshiners had to make their runs at night. They also had to use vehicles that would blend in, and would not create too much attention, but those vehicles couldn’t out run the cops, so they decided to make some slight modifications to them. After moonshiners made these slight modifications, they were able to run 120 mph on a dirt road without using headlights. Soon after, Moonshiners started to race each other on the weekends.
Bill Francis Sr. is the founder and the first President of NASCAR, which was finally incorporated on February 21, 1948. AAA was sponsoring stock car races even before NASCAR was founded. Three division were ran, Modified, Roadster, and Strictly Stock. Strictly Stock was the elite series, but was put on hold due to manufacturers not being able to produce enough family sedans during World War II, while the Roadsters were quickly abandoned due to lack of fans. Today the top 3 series for NASCAR are Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series.
As cars were able to go faster, safety became a concern to track officials. Helmets were designed to dissipate impact energy, and prevent damage to the drivers head. The first helmets looked like hard hats; later on they developed a chin strap. The first full face helmet was made by Bell, but wasn’t worn until the Indianapolis 500 in 1968. But NASCAR, didn’...

...from caving in during a roll over crash. This ended up with some teams designing a whole roll cage to protect the driver in all areas and not just one. The whole point of having a roll cage is to keep the car stiff, so it all doesn’t collapse on the driver or squish them into a spot where they are unable to get out.
NASCAR introduced roof flaps in 1994. The purpose of the roof flap is to help keep the car down, when it spins out. Due to high speeds after a car spun out backwards the car was able to catch air underneath it, managing the car to fly through the air and flip over. Another piece on modern cars today is having a spoiler on the rear end. The spoiler helps keeps the air push down on the car for maximum down force. This helps the tires to stay on the ground for more traction to the track. But this does take out some of the speed the cars do possess.
The green flag drops on the first race in The National Dirt Racing Association(NDRA). It doesn’t matter where people go, on some little road in a small town, people will find a small dirt track. The speedways are mostly always located in city areas where a large amount of people live. After a weekend of racing the teams head to the shop to fix the car up again. Despite the fact, that racing had been around since before 1978; whenever Mr. Robert Smawley introduced NDRA, and later Mr. Bill France introduced NASCAR, more people paid attention to the sport of racing.
“Short track racing is always been a way of life and not just a hobby” Bryan Clauson. There's always been people into dirt racing as it is personally my favorite form of racing. This sport isn't all to safe as there has been a massive tragedy in 2016 of Bryan Clauson as he died at the Belleville Midget Nationals. This tragedy sent a shockwave through all sports from dirt to asphalt racing. There is a commitment when you strap into that racecar and that is there's no guarantee that your going to get out so there's always been losses and historical moments in dirt racing. There isn't always tragedies there's famous moments like the 2016 Dream at eldora when a 19 year old kid Bobby Pierce Jr. won the world's most famous dirt race. 2017 will bring new stars like Rico Abreu which has already committed to dirt from nascar and has already won 2 golden drillers from the world's most prestigious midget race, chili bowl nationals in Tulsa Oklahoma .
The sport of NASCAR is extremely fast paced. The average speed of a NASCAR is 210.364 MPH.This can make it exciting for many people. Anything can happen in a split second too. One race Kyle Busch started 39/43 and finished in 3/43. That is a change of 36 places. This can also make it exciting because you will never know what’s going to happen.
Take a look at your car, it probably can only hit eighty on a good day. Then watch the top fuel and funny car dragsters of the National Hot Rod Association who get three hundred miles per hour on a bad day. You would be blown away at the diffrence in power. The pure power and the amount of noise that these cars produce will blow you away. I'm going to inform you on a lot of the amazing facts about the nitro powered dragsters of the NHRA. First, i'm going to inform you on how drag racing started and on how drag racing works, then how the dragsters work. Following that i'm going to explain how the equipment keeps the drivers and workers safe, finally I will explain how the sport is evolving,
When Jack Roush decides to have one less race team on the track, he does so not because he doesn’t like the team that is racing, but because fielding a race team is expensive. Mr. Roush has a lot of money, but he is limited to the number of teams he can put on the track. Race fans make choices too. We choose which drivers we will support, which manufacturers we will back, what races to attend in person, and how many races to watch on television. All of these choices are made because we don’t have the time, money or opportunity to watch every race, travel to every track, or back every driver. Therefore, we have to choose.
Days of Thunder, a 1990 box office classic, displays false information when it comes to the truth behind NASCAR. NASCAR is a professional based company and is headed by only the best. Its new penalty and regulation system and professionalism on and off the racetrack show the truth behind the character of NASCAR. The film Days of Thunder shows a false depiction of the company of NASCAR and prove to show that sometimes even Hollywood, can “get it wrong”.
One of the most famous drivers was a man by the name of Junior Johnson. He was a shiner who had been caught and had spent a year in prison. He got out of prison and went back into the fast money life style of running shine. In his prime he was considered the fastest man on the ridge. He later made his way to NASCAR in 1955 and went on to win over 50 races. He then retired in 1966. Mike Devlin September 30, 2013
The average driver doesn’t think about what keeps their car moving or what keeps them on the road, but that’s because they don’t have to. The average driver doesn’t have to worry about having enough downforce to keep them on the road or if they will reach the adhesive limit of their car’s tires around a turn. These are the things are the car designers, professional drivers, racing pit crews, serious sports car owners, and physicist think about. Physics are an important part of every sports and racing car design. The stylish curves and ground effects on sports cars are usually there not just for form but function as well allowing you to go speeds over 140 mph in most serious sports cars and remain on the road and in reasonable control.
NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) was born in 1948. Bill France, the creator, had a dream. His dream was to create such a race that people for all over would come to see. In the beginning, they would have races on Daytona Beach and on other small tracks located throughout the south. Eventually, people became interested and the audience grew. Now, there are over twenty racetracks located all across the United States
Tires are the most important part of race or any car for that mater. (Physics of Racing) After all they are the only thing that is contact with the ground! Tires work by having a high coefficient of friction. Some slicks have a friction coefficient grater then 1! (Physics of Racing) Typical normal street tires have coefficient of about .5 to .6 . In physics we learned that friction was equal to mew times the normal force. Since race cars are typical much lighter then normal cars, they use tricks to increase the downward force on the tires. Some drag tires run really low pressure, other drag cars tune the car to lift the front wheels to put all the weight on the rear tires. Indy cars use a wing to generate down force, and ventures to suck the car to the ground. (How to Make Your Car Handle)
Most road cars run off of gasoline, or pump gas. It is a very effective mixture that does its job well when it comes to internal combustion engines, but it’s not the most potent fuel mixture you can find. You may have heard of a type of racing called “Top Fuel”, it is the fastest type of racing in the world. Where your car may push out around 200 horsepower, the Top Fuel cars can have up to 10,000 horsepower, they can get to over 300 mph in less than 4 seconds. This insane speed is due to their massive engines, and very potent fuel, nitromethane.
Ford is the greatest car company because Henry Ford was an interesting and unique mogul because of these interesting facts. Since Ford has been working for Detroit Automobile Company for a long time he has decided to leave that company and start making his own racing cars. When Henry left he has taken with him nine hundred dollars and schematics for a planned racer. The materials that the frame was built of was ash wood, reinforced with steel plates, the wheelbase is ninety six inches round. This race car that Henry Ford created was about about two thousand and two hundred pounds
Even when cars capable of these speeds are put into the hands of world-class drivers such as Ferrari’s Michael Shumacher and McLaren’s Mika Hakkinen, mishaps are bound to occur. This is what makes this sport so exciting to watch. Crashes however, are not the only exciting events of the race. It is thrilling to watch a car out brake another in order to squeeze its way ahead, or to watch the cars bump tires in an effort to occupy the same piece of race track to be set up correctly for the turn ahead. Other points of interest are the pit stops and the strategies that the various teams use in order to make a fast pit stop.
When people hear the word “racecar” they think of Nascar. People think of Nascar because it is the most popular form of racing in America. There are many different types of tracks such as oval, eight shaped, and straight lines. Throughout history race cars have been built in garages. Even today some drivers build their own racecars. Race cars provide much more speed and safety than the average street car.
I lived with my father for my entire life, but due to his work I did not spend much time with him. My father worked at a different city; and thus he comes home only a few times a month. My father is a mechanic. He works at a company that is distant from our home. This was due to the company being the only one and the first where cars were being assembled in Ethiopia. Sometimes on the weekends I used to go to his work place. He would give me a trip of the place; the station was filled with vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles. It was separated by sections. In each section there were only one type of vehicle and the assembly process was shown step by step. From a fuse to large engine of the car, components were getting attached.
