Over the past years, there have been an increasing amount of Asian people migrating to the United States with the goal in mind that they will have a new home that they can stay in. However, when trying to achieve these goals, there were obstacles such as finding their place in this new society. They have also had to struggle against the stereotypes that people have of them. "All Asians are supposedly smart and successful in school." But, in America, it is not true. Even though they are a race that statistically have the most graduates, there are Asians who also drop out of school. Just why is that? Although, there are Asian Americans that are really struggling in the world who just need help just like any other individual. Asians are people who have emotions and stress that arise like others just like anyone else. And, the stereotypes about them just add more stress. It can lead to a feeling of being isolated. Which, they do not feel connected with others. Ethnic studies can help Asian Americans overcome such feelings of isolation by teaching them about their cultural background and helping them to feel more connected to their culture. Ethnic studies can also help non-Asian people to better understand a culture different than their own. Ethnic studies are something that not all people approve of because it uncovers the truth through eyes of other groups. However, seeing the truth through others’ eyes is something every American needs to learn how to do. It has been statistically proven that ethnic studies have helped in the past with other groups better-understanding people with cultural backgrounds different than their own. It makes people more comfortable with one another. There is a program that would help Asian-Americans to connect with others as well as others would be able to connect with them. The program is called ethnic studies and it help teaches others about culture and history through the eyes of another race. This would help people understand each other and stop misconceptions. “Ethnic Studies is the critical and interdisciplinary study of race, ethnicity, and indigeneity with a focus on the experiences and perspectives of people of color within and beyond the United States.” (ethnic studies) Giving people a perspective of other cultures and ethnicities would allow them to connect with others. Also, it will let Asian -Americans know that they do not have to change themselves to fit in and let them embrace their cultural differences. Ethnic studies are capable of lowering the dropout rates of Asians because it had been proven to help other ethnicity groups. Ethnic studies had helped other groups by making those groups interested in what they are learning, which had helped the dropout rates.
