Paul Haggis directed the movie “Crash” in 2004. Haggis came up with this movie idea one night after waking up from a dream. The dream consisted of two guys hijacking his car. After that dream, Haggis started thinking about whom the two kids were and the locksmith they had hired that night. Sooner later, Haggis states, “I had the whole plot and all of the characters” (HuffingtonPost.com). This movie shows the difficulties each character had with racial discrimination and redemption. Each character’s storyline had qualities of personal judgments based on their racial view of society. The director is able to show the constant connection between race and personal beliefs. The first racial issue that comes up in the movie involves two black guys who go to a restaurant, and one of them feel as if he was not treated the same way as the other white customers. Wong 2 threatened when they see them (other black men) walking down a sidewalk. In another scene, there was a Hispanic locksmith that caused Sandra Bullock’s character to repeatedly state that she wanted the locks changed again because she believed that he would give the keys to his amigos.
During another movie scene, a white police officer pulls over a black couple while examining for weapons. Then, he started to sexually harass her in front of her husband. The husband could not do anything because it could have cause racial scandal. The movie ended with the car crash that was shown at the beginning of the movie.
