Stephen Robert Irwin was born in Essendon, Victoria on February the 22nd, 1962. He spent his early childhood living in the Upper Fern Tree Gully area. When Steve was eight years of age his parents -Robert and Lynette, his two sisters - Joy and Mandy moved to Beerwah, a rural town in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast Region. Moving to the Sunshine Coast as a young boy was a big deal for Steve, and it was here that his parents established the “Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park” in the year 1970. This meant Steve had Australia’s most native wildlife in his own backyard.
Robert raised Steve around all sorts of crazy wildlife, educating him mainly on reptiles, with him getting involved physically with crocodiles at just 9 years of age. In his late teenage years Steve worked as a volunteer for Queensland’s East Coast crocodile management program, where he captured over 100 crocodiles, and this was where his passion for reptiles had begun. In 1991, Irwin took over managing the wildlife of the Reptile and Fauna Park and titled it “Australia Zoo”. Australia Zoo is a wildlife animal protection property, where in excess of 1000 animals are taken great care of. Australia zoo is filled with happy, healthy animals, from the frightening and misunderstood to the cute and cuddly. This conservation park is a stable and

joyful environment. The zoo provides a refuge for their collection of over one hundred different species including many of Steve's favourites such as the crocodiles, tigers, and cheetah’s. Through shows and performances, the zoo also gives the ability to educate the world about animal conservation and to increase the chances of protecting all wildlife. I have chosen the image of the family holding hands in my visual to represent the idea of Steve, his mother and father and two sister moving to an entirely different state as a family and as a whole. Throughout Steve’s life the most significant people were his own parents Robert and Lynette Irwin. Steve’s mother Lynette passed away in the year 2000. Lyn was a true Australian pioneer woman, dedicating her entire lifetime to the rehabilitation and conservation of both her family and the wildlife. Every day she worked hard and toiled to save injured and orphaned joeys while maintaining a very happy and healthy Irwin clan. Lyn worked by Steve’s side for thirty-eight years to help him unravel and become the man he is today. Steve adopted her strength, her passion and enthusiasm, dedication and commitment. Steve’s father, Robert was a keen plumber but as his passion for reptiles accelerated at an alarming rate, he was nursing an ever-increasing collection of snakes in the family home. Within a short time, his collection of reptiles and many animals had grown to the point where bedrooms were not big enough to house everything. Lyn and Robert then made the biggest decision of their lives, to start up a wildlife sanctuary. In the early days Robert and Steve shared the most marvellous ventures to the Australian outback. They would travel the wilderness for weeks at a time, catching crocodiles, snakes and lizards for the park. I have chosen the image of the father and son in my visual to represent the idea of Steve following in his father’s footsteps. In addition to his own role models, Steve had become a role model for many people around the world as he changed the world for the better. Steve Irwin was a very popular Australian as he inspired many people about animal nature, by not to fear it but explore it with enthusiasm. He was a passionate environmentalist and gave people perceptions through his performances at Australia Zoo. Irwin became internationally famous for his successful television series, The Crocodile Hunter, which viewed in 142 countries and watched by more than a staggering 500 million people. Audiences were repeatedly spellbound by Irwin’s striking encounters with animals. He thought nothing of tangling with deadly spiders, snakes, lizards, and, of course, crocodiles. Through his hair-raising exploits, Irwin considered himself a wildlife educator, sharing his knowledge, awareness and enthusiasm for animals with his spectators. Although Steve had no scientific degree, he matured by studying and caring for all sorts of animals at his parent’s wildlife centre.
Steve was to grow up following in his father’s footsteps. Robert Irwin’s passion, enthusiasm, skill and greatness with dangerously venomous snakes and virtually all wildlife are natural, God-given abilities, which Steve also had in his veins, heart and soul. Steve started by mimicking his mother and father, his own instinctive ability with wildlife began to develop. Little did Steve know that his parents were his mentors, and all those early years when he was a child, they were gearing him up to become a wildlife guru just like
them. I have chosen the image of the parent holding their child’s hand in my visual to represent the idea of Steve giving his daughter ‘Bindi’ the guidance to an amazing life, filled with adrenaline and excitement. Steve Irwin is continuously remembered today for his countless contributions to the area of wildlife tutoring and management, with running an evolution to help salvage and defend crocodiles and supporting various other animal charities. Irwin believed in endorsing environmentalism by sharing his excitement about the natural world rather than preaching to people. He was concerned with the protection of threatened and endangered animals and land clearance leading to loss of habitat surroundings. He insisted the general public to take part in considerate tourism and not fund illegal poaching through the purchase of items such as turtle shells and crocodile leather. Australia zoo Is now the top wildlife tourist attraction in Australia, bringing in crowds of 300,000 each year.

For centuries, war has broken families and caused scarring both physical and mental. Consequently, the futility of war has been universally accepted and Bruce Dawes powerful poems ‘Weapons Training’ and ‘Homecoming’ reveal this. Dawe creates an Australian insight to the training and consequences of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was a long conflict Beginning in 1954 and ending in 1975. More than 3 million people were killed in the tragic War. Dawes ‘Weapons Training’ demonstrates the guidance of an abusive Sergeant whilst ‘Homecoming’ illustrates the shocking consequences and impact of war. Bruce Dawes powerful war poems, paired together, showcase a journey. One filled with harsh and vulgar training whilst the other proves that even training
During the War for American Independence, 78 men were commissioned as general officers into the Continental Army by the Continental Congress. Many of these generals commanded troops with differing levels of competence and success. George Washington is typically seen as most important general, however throughout the war a number of his subordinates were able to distinguish themselves amongst their peers. One such general was Nathanael Greene. At the end of the Revolutionary War, Greene would become Washington’s most important subordinate, as demonstrated by Edward Lengel’s assessment of Greene as “the youngest and most capable of Washington’s generals.” Washington and Greene developed a strong, positive and close relationship between themselves. Greene began his life in the military after having been raised a Quaker. With limited access to literature and knowledge in his younger years, Greene became an avid reader which equipped him with the knowledge necessary to excel as a general during the war. Through his devoted study of military operations, firsthand experience and natural abilities as a soldier, Greene became an excellent military commander. He would become known for his successful southern campaign, during which, he loosened British control of the South and helped lead the war to its climax at Yorktown. Throughout the war, he was involved in a number high profile battles where he built a reputation of being an elite strategist who also understood unconventional warfare, logistics, and the importance of military-civil affairs and had a natural political/social acumen. The thesis of this paper is that Greene’s proven reputation of being a soldier, strategist and statesman would cause him to become the second greates...

In the poem “Determination” written by Stephen Dobyns, the poet gives an account of a man finally beginning to prepare to write his first novel after the many “tedious years” he endured of “doing the taxes of strangers” (19-20). Typically, this would be a respected occasion, and the poet emulates this idea to some extent. However, he also strategically employs a multifaceted tone regarding the actions of the character in the poem. Looking past the deferential, celebratory tone that lies on the surface of the poem, demonstrated through the thoughts of the speaker, the tone of the poet himself is dismissive and detached. By means of certain poetic devices and other literary techniques, the poet conveys his attitude toward the character in the

Warren Gatland can be seen as an innovator, a person who introduces new methods or ideas to try to improve an individual or a team’s performance. He has come up with unique drills on a daily basis causing the individuals and team to help them think on their feet. Gatland quotes “The environment has to continually evolve to embrace all the available advances in game analysis, conditioning, nutrition, rugby skills and medical care, along with a constant reflection on how the elite game is changing and how we must respond to those developments”. He hosted the world renowned television series The Crocodile Hunter and made appearances on many major talk shows. This essay will aim to illustrate the life and the achievements of Steve Irwin. From his diaper days Steve Irwin was fascinated with wildlife, reptiles in particular were his favourite. At the delicate age of 6 Steve caught his first venomous snake. According to Brown (2010) "Irwin's father taught him how to hunt crocodiles for relocating, and, by age nine, he was already jumping on crocodiles at night in the rivers of North Queensland ".
The poem of Sir Patrick Spence is a ballad from Scotland originating around the fourteenth century (“Origins”). Like most ballads the author of Sir Patrick Spence is unknown. One other thing that this poem has in common with many other ballads of early Europe their are no historical records of a person called Sir Patrick Spence. Since this many historians have come to believe that the poem is based loosely on Sir Patrick Vans, that was sent by King James VI to retrieve his new wife Anne of Denmark (“Origins”).
