A man starting from nothing with only the urge to write becoming so much more. The King of Horror is a member of many guilds, writer of some of the best horror novels, and has even made a couple movies. Although, with a current net worth of 400 million dollars, Stephen King was not always the King of Horror. Having been born on September 21, 1947, his childhood was not the greatest. HIs father, Donald King, was not always a king. He was a Pollock before changing his surname to King. In 1939 on July 23, Donald King and Nellie Ruth née Pillsbury were married in Cumberland County, Maine. Their marriage did not last long, for ten years later, in 1949, Donald went out to "buy a pack of cigarettes" (Wikipedia 2) leaving Nellie to raise David and …show more content…
Richard Bachman was created There was a novel by Richard Stark on my desk so I used the name Richard and that's kind of funny because Richard Stark is in itself a pen name for Donald Westlake and what was playing on the record player was "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" by Bachman Turner Overdrive, so I put the two of them together and came up with Richard Bachman. (2) The reason Stephen King used a pen name to publish a few of his books because then it was thought that readers would not be able to accept it. However, the number of authors publishing a few books has disproved that. Stephen King and his literary agent, Richard Manuel, created Bachman’s persona. In Fact, Richard Manuel was the image for Richard Bachman. They continue to use Bachman today as a kind of joke. In 1985, Stephen revealed that Bachman died suddenly of “cancer of the pseudonym, a rare form of schizomania” (Wikipedia 12). After that, Stephen still use the name to publish The Dark Half, The Regulators with publishers claiming the books manuscript was found by his widow. Blaze was discovered next as it was an unpublished novel of Kings before
As private as Wheeler was a person, you can only speculate as to why he wrote over 40 books under three different pseudonyms. His seemingly quiet private life may have been vicariously lived through the lives of the many characters he created in his mystery novels. The series of Puzzle novels were his most popular and were written under the pseudonym Patrick Quentin and collaborated with Richard Webb (Obituar...
I consider Pike to be an important author to literature because he gives his horror/thriller books a different perspective. Like many other horror/thriller books everything starts out perfect for the characters until one day it turns into a mystery filled with unanswered questions and most likely death. In Pike’s books, he provides details and makes the reader question all of the moves the characters make and sends the reader on a journey throughout the
He and Tabitha Spruce married in January of 1971. He met Tabitha in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University of Maine at Orono, where they both worked as students. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.

Stephen King is known by many as a successful author, but every author is only as good as his or her works. King has produced various types of works such as short stories, novels, novellas, screenplays, and comics. His work has been the “most important bridge between the horror genre and literary respectability from the late 1960s and 1970s up to the present time” (Hoppenstand 3). Stephen Edwin King was born September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine. He is the second son of Donald Edwin and Nellie Ruth King. When King was two years old, his father, a captain in the merchant marines, went out to buy a pack of cigarettes and never returned. Nellie, King’s mother, raised King and his adopted older brother David. The family under the care of Nellie experienced many hardships and moved often as she looked for work. Authors use pen names for various reasons. Sometimes its because they aren't aloud to get published according to the publisher, and other times its because they want to write more. Many authors new and old use pen names when writing. Even famous authors, like Stephen King or J.K. Rowling. There are many books still out there that haven’t been read that much but famous authors write them, because their pen names aren’t well known and people didn’t know it was they.
After being released from the military King had plans of leaving plantation life for the big city. He tried to convince members of small gospel groups he sung with to join him but realized if he was going to make it big he'd have to do it on his own. He eventually left Mississippi and hitchhiked to Memphis with $2.50 in his pocket. When King arrived in Memphis in 1946 he stayed with his cousin Bukka White who was a well known blues-man.
For such a successful writer, Stephen King really had no secret to his writing style. King has credited free writing for his best ideas. He also has a very down to earth way of looking at his fame. Stephen King would read for four hours, and then he would write for four hours or until he reached 2,000 words. In a Time magazine interview, King called this his nine to five approach and that he, “worked until beer o’ clock.” When asked where his ideas came from, King would often reply, “I have the heart of a small boy. . . And I keep it in a jar on my desk.” Also, he does not have just one particular way of writing horror, and what often sets off the terror in his readers most was the vast amount of detail portrayed.
Many people have heard of Mark Twain, but his real name is Samuel L. Clemens. He is one of the most influential authors in writing, and he is the guy with the white suit and a cigar (Brown, Don). His career has inspired many to become authors, but he faced many challenges in his older years, which affected his ideal of becoming wealthy. Nevertheless, he has had an impact on American Literature, securing him a spot in the History Hall of Fame.
Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947 at the Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine. His parents were Donald Edwin King and Ruth Pillsbury King. Stephen being the only natural born child in the family and his older brother David having been adopted at birth two years earlier. “The Kings were the typical, “nuclear” family of the fifties until one night when Donald King said he was stepping out for cigarettes and was never heard from again.” At this point Ruth took over raising the family with help from other relatives of the family.
King Sr’s. wife, Alberta Williams, worked as a teacher, but soon after marriage decided to put teaching behind her and move on to become fully dedicated to the Baptist church. She also took responsibility to support the Women’s International League for Peace...
Stephen King is known as one of the greatest horror and gothic writers of our time. The reason for this is his ability to fuse the gothic elements created by stories such as Dracula or Frankenstein and todays horror. King has written hundreds of short stories but two in-particular “The Night Flier” and “Popsy” show his unique ability to combined gothic elements from the old literature with realistic settings and people of our era. One of his greater talents is being able to use gothic element like vampires and make us see them in a different light. Kings unique way of writing with his old gothic ideals, new horror ideas, and use of realistic settings help to put a new spin on what we conceive as gothic story.
