Steph Curry knows how. Curry is a 6’3” guard and is the leading scorer in the league today (Reilly). He started as maybe an All-Star consideration, and now is the leagues MVP (Riley 222) If you ask any athlete they will say that this gap is huge and could take years to close, not one season. Curry was the MVP for the 2013-2014 season (“Golden State Warriors”), and was an NBA champion. It amazes many that Curry lost half of his third season to an injury but came back stronger then ever (Riley 222). Due to being the leading scorer, Curry is also the most well known player in the league. This is also due to in the 2014-2015 season he made more three’s then any other player in NBA history. The most points he has ever scored in an NBA game is 44 (Reilly). A lot of his fame can be credited to college. While playing in the NCAA tournament he was eating lunch with Eli Manning in L.A., and became good friends with LeBron James. LeBron gave special initiative to see Curry play in Detroit, he too his prime jet just to see him play (Wahl 48). Curry has also not changed his warmup routine since college, many spectators call it the Steph curry warmup show. Fans will arrive hours before a game just to watch Curry do his warmup. Curry would love to be better then Jordan but his goal is to always be the best he can be on or off of the court. “Guys like Jordan, Bird, LeBron, …show more content…
In his off season he spends a week away from his family visiting Tanzania with the Nothing but Nets program, a charity that was cofound with the United Nations Foundations to help people with malaria (Reilly). For every three pointer he makes during every game he donates a net to the charity. These nets are used to cover the doors and windows of homes to help keep out the mosquitos. He has spoken to his home college and to the White House about this subject. He stated this to the White House, “So that’s why we need Presidents, members of Congress, Admirals, basketball stars, faith leaders, scientists and doctors, Ministers of Health, and communities to fight the complacency, to raise awareness, to hang up nets and spray wall with insecticide, and todo the research to find better treatment, better diagnostics, and better insecticide to beat back this wily ancient parasite and mosquito (“Putting an End”). Curry tries his best at everything he can to do to grow as a person. Being the best is not just a personal thing. Curry would like to be an inspiration to others and to the youth that you can active anything as long as you set your mind to it. Altogether Curry is a family man who uses basketball as a way to help his family and to be a leader. You don 't have to a NBA star to make a difference in this world, just be the best person you can
Lebron James is a well known professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron is often referred to as one of the greatest to ever pick up a basketball. Lebron makes money from playing basketball but a substantial amount of his income comes from sponsorships and endorsement deals with outside brands. This is where his social media plays a huge part of his life.
It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA. He was drafted straight out of high school in the 2003-04 season, by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is already on the road to success by achieving co-rookie of the year, and he appeared in the Olympics. James is expected to be a champion, but he may not have what it takes to become a real champion such as Michael Jordan was. Before Jordan or James can be categorized as a champion, they have to be able to handle pressure, fame, and maintain a positive relationship with their team. When comparing Jordan and James’ clutch capabilities, or their ab...

His incredible passes and being able to control the court caused his teammates to like him even more. “His playground moves, circus shots, and hotdog passes were considered outrageous during his era” (NBA Encyclopedia Playoff Edition). His love for basketball was instilled by his father Peter “Press” Maravich.
The NBA is well known for the number of amazing professional athletes it has had over the years. Some of the most gifted and talented individuals come through the NBA and one of the better-known superstars is none other than Kobe Bryant. For years people have wondered what makes Bryant so successful. The main contributors that lead to Kobe Bryant’s success is his hard work and dedication, his mindset, his natural ability’s and talent, and the people that have helped him throughout his life. Kobe Bryant was very successful in the NBA because of the amount of hard work he has put in, the people in his life, his relentless determination and his god given natural abilities.
Several foreign basketball players have individually left their marks on NBA courts, in NBA record books, and in their fans’ hearts. Different ethnic groups, races, and sports fans in general have united, cheering on heroic efforts from players from overseas. These international players amped up the level of competition in basketball and found themselves at home in the NBA. Four international players have been honored with the most prestigious award a player can receive in professional basketball, NBA MVP. These same four players are undoubtedly future Hall of Famers and were listed in the top 30 international players of all time in a 2013 “Dime Magazine” article (Daruaku). These four players, Steve Nash, Tim Duncan,...
With these values, Johnson overcame adversity and rose to the heroic status that he now holds. This rich NBA great was not always the wealthy man everyone knows; through hard-work, he achieved status. Earvin Johnson grew up in a large and poor family. “With so many kids to take care of, my parents didn’t have enough money left over for luxuries” (Johnson 6).
Kobe spent years trying to mimic everything about Michael Jordan including his footwork, shooting form etc. and it definitely payed off . Kobe has the 3rd most points scored of all time and he is the all time Lakers points leader. However, Kobe’s success is his but his influence is not, it belongs to Michael Jordan as it was Kobe who mimicked Jordan. The points scored by Kobe have an often unseen angle, Kobe also has the missed the most shots ever (Nba.com)). LeBron, on the other hand, is currently the youngest player to reach 20,000 points even though Kobe has played 6 more seasons than LeBron has out-rebounded, out-assisted, out-stole and out-blocked Kobe Bryant (nba.com). While doing so LeBron changed what constitutes all 5 positions, for example before LeBron, the point guard was the smallest player on the court who can dribble, but after LeBron’s arrival where he has dominated every position with his 6’8 280 pound frame and his incredible basketball IQ, the point guard has become the composer of the symphony that is an offensive possession in a game of basketball"LeBron James." Stephen Curry, currently one of the best players in the NBA, experienced an obstacle when he was not to a top college. Rather than seeing this as an end to his NBA dreams, he overcame this obstacle by turning it in to an opportunity. As a member of the Davidson College team, the underdogs at the 2008 NCAA tournament, he was able to demonstrate his skills during his teams dream run to the final 8. Through his shooting prowess and never give up mentality he showed the basketball world his ability to change the course of a game. Had he not been challenged by this obstacle he may not have had the opportunity to demonstrate his skills, with this opportunity acting as a catalyst for many more in the future.
Derrick Rose grew up in Chicago along with many family members including me. He has always had a
Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. When Michael was still a toddler he and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Michael was the fourth of five children. He had two older brothers, James Jr. and Larry, one older sister, Deloris, and one younger sister, Roslyn. Michael’s dad, James Sr. Jordan, worked for General Electric, and Michael’s mother, Deloris Jordan, who worked at The United Carolina Bank as the head teller. Michael always wanted to be a professional athlete. Once when he was nine years old he watched the United States lose to Russia in the Olympic Games in Basketball. He then told his mom that he would win a gold medal in Basketball at Olympic Games. When Michael was twelve he pitched two no hitters in the Wilmington, North Carolina Little League. His little league team went on and almost made it to the Little League World Series.
Due to the mark Michael Jordan has left on the world as the “G.O.A.T.”, it will be very difficult for any player to surpass his legacy. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James all have similarities of Michael Jordan but, out of all three players James is the closest. LeBron has the most similarities and the potential to surpass Michael Jordan’s legacy with his personality, stats and he popularity on and off the court. Even though James has the potential to surpass his legacy, there is still a very long journey ahead of James if he ever wants to be considered the “G.O.A.T.”.
First, we will celebrate LeBron James’s accomplishments in the NBA. There are over 400 players in the NBA. These players are on the battlefield, fighting day after day because they all know only one can become the Most Valuable Player. LeBron James rose above all, claiming the MVP award, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 times. Not only is LeBron James an MVP, but he is also a 13-time All-Star player. LeBron James garnered enough votes from the fans, the players, and the media to become an All-Star like a presidential candidate getting enough votes from the voters to become the President.
Bill Russell is a legend in the history of basketball and created a lasting legacy at the Boston Celtics. Russell holds a record eleven championship rings and got them by being one of the most impactful centers in all of basketball. He is generally known for his achievements on the court, but few know of the impacts he has made in the lives of others. Russell has founded many organizations that sponsor the under-privileged youth growing up; he also has worked with many organizations such as MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership to help children find role models to look up to (“Martinez”). Bill Russell grew up an average high school ball player and
When someone says the name Michael Jordan, the first thing that comes to mind is basketball, The Chicago Bulls and Nike shoes. Through the years, Michael Jordan has proved time and time again that he is the greatest basketball player ever, and by performing in this rapidly expanding sporting field, he has gained tremendous popularity throughout the world. People of all ages and from all nationalities have gathered to watch him play. A journalist states 'even your Aunt Matilda might not know nothing about basketball, liked watching him play' (Jonathon 1999:58). Jordan has become more than just an entertainer. He is a hero and a role model amongst basketball spectators. Johnson claims that 'he is the most famous American in the world' (ibid.). Perhaps he was born to be the best.
In 2008, Michael Jordan made his 200th wish to Make-A-Wish foundation. The CEO of the Make-A-Wish foundation even stated that, “Michael Jordan is one of the all-time greatest athletes, but he is an even better person,” said David Williams, “He has changed the lives of hundreds of wish kids and their families for the better, and for that, we are forever grateful” (Christensen). If the CEO of Make-A-Wish can say that Michael Jordan is a better person than a basketball player, and then he must be quite the person considering how dominate of a player Jordan was.
