Traveling is an obsession of mine, and I have been blessed with the opportunity to see the world. I have been to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Austria, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize, Dominican Republic, and many places in the states. Of all of those exotic and memorable places, my favorite place on earth is Steamboat Colorado. This may not seem like a very exciting place, but it has played a huge roll in my life. Steamboat has taught me how beautiful the world is how even the most insignificant thing can have a greater meaning. My family and I go to Steamboat almost every year as our family vacation. The fifth time visiting was the most memorable. I remember that trip like it was yesterday. My family and I woke up early in the morning to prepare for our day skiing on the slopes. I had a bowl of peanut butter captain crunch and some toast. After breakfast I put on my snow clothes, strapped on my boots, and walked out of our condo into the brisk early morning mountain air. my skis and was ready for a day of shredding the gnar. My skiing skills were a bit rusty that first day, but luckily from our condo to the gondola was a five-minute ski, so it was the perfect opportunity to warm myself up and get the feel for my rented skis. I came to a stop, took off my skis and hopped on the gondola with my family. It had snowed the night before, so there was a perfect amount of powder on the mountain.
My family and I reached the top of the mountain and hopped off the gondola and the light blinded me. I nearly fell down the steps to the snow-covered mountain. It took a while for my eyes to adjust, but as soon as they did, I realized why it was so bright. Because of the snow from the previous night and the wind at the top of the mountain, the snow particles were flying through the air. I had never seen something so beautiful in my entire life. As I was soaring above the blanket of clouds, the light was reflecting off the flying snowflakes, giving the illusion of a sparkling blanket as far as the eye could see. My dad had to get a picture of the sparkling snow, and me, and I now have that photo framed in my room sitting on my dresser. Every morning I wake up and think about how beautiful the earth we live on is, and how the most insignificant things can have a greater
meaning. By combining snow, light, and clouds, I was able to experience the most life changing moment in existence. My appreciation for life significantly increased because it taught me that small components have big endings. By doing little things that either progress knowledge or happiness is worthwhile because they become a fundamental part in the big picture. I could never of imagined that something could be so beautiful. On top of Mt. Werner gave me a whole new perspective on life. Every year I look forward to visiting my favorite place, hoping to encounter a new life changing experience. Steamboat Colorado will always have a special place in my heart. I will always remember this moment, and someday I hope to take my children to the wonderful place. I hope that my kids get the same life changing experience that I received from my family trip. I have visited many exotic places, but nothing could compare to standing on top of the mountain and seeing the magnificent sparkling blanket. This event made me realize how beautiful our earth is, and how insignificant things can have greater meaning.
Many overlook the beauty that is expressed by nature. The images put together in nature influenced Mary Oliver’s “First Snow.” The beauty expressed in “First Snow” shows how there is hidden beauty in nature such as snow. Also how snow, not so simple, is something so stunning and breath taking. The descriptions of Oliver’s visions show that many things are overlooked in nature and shouldn’t be. She elaborates to show that nature sets forth not just snow, but something so much more. Mary Oliver uses many examples and proofs to show the beauty. In “First Snow” Mary Oliver conveys the image of snow to embody the beauty of nature.
I have been to a place that has lots of interesting snow and others. It is Lake Tahoe. It is a place that I will never get bored of that it has a lot of snow! Mostly you could do anything with snow. But most of all, beating your older brother up in a snowball fight. I really loved when each time I went down the big mountain. It was really amazing. I was also really happy of building snowmen and building snow forts that I never even knew I can build. It was amazing for all of what could be crafted with snow. The fantastic trip has come to the start!
Riding down Pikes Peak was one of the best adventures I have ever had, however, it was horrifying at times. Our whole vacation in Colorado was full of adventure. We rode ATVs, went white water rafting, but the best part was riding a bike down Pikes Peak. This was an exhilarating adventure I will never
As we were climbing up the hill, I looked around to notice how green the lightly damp grass was, how beautiful the tall trees were, and how fast those snow clouds were moving above us. We got one elk on this adventure, so we decided we would pack up our stuff and head back home. As the white GMC reached the summit of Red Mountain Pass, I looked back to Silverton to see nothing but snow falling from the nearly black clouds in the sky, and I thought to myself--let it snow.
We started our travels down in Columbus Ohio. The week leading up to the big move we spent at Deer Creek State park, for a family reunion, where my dad and step mom, had the chance to see everyone again, before the journey began. Over all we had taken nine days to get to our destination. First stop, Saint Louis, Missouri, we stopped to see the Gateway Arch. It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, so of course I was pretty amazed. The first few days were our longest driving days, but sense we broke up the days, our longest day was eight hours. The second day was the worst, Oklahoma is so boring to drive through, and nothing but flat crop farms, and wind turbines everywhere you look. We drove till we got about seventy five miles from the boarder of New Mexico, And Oklahoma. We got up early and began a shorter dive to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we went to Petroglyph National Monument, yeah it was interesting, but after you see a few hundred, they all start to look the same. The next morning we took a beautiful hike and took many pictures to capture the moment. Other than getting there, my favorite part of the trip, was Arizona, where we stayed four days in Flagstaff, one day in Holbrook, and one day in Phoenix. I wouldn’t mind if I lived in Arizona, it’s a very beautiful state. My family and I stopped by the Petrified Forest National Park, and I
“Come on, “ my counselor Emily screamed from shore. The quick rapids made it very difficult to dig our paddles into the river. My cabin was stopping to eat lunch on our Tuesday canoeing trip. On Saturday, we had traveled down to Brownstown, Indiana for a week full of friends, fun, and God. My church stayed at a retreat center called Pyoca. Every year on Tuesday, we would go on a canoeing or rafting trip depending on the water levels. Emily, Annabelle, my canoeing partner, and I sat along the sand bank waiting for other canoes to come in. Many other groups slowly went by, while we patiently waited for other groups to come in. I was so hungry, I couldn’t wait. Canoeing had zapped all of my energy, and had made me really hungry. I began to quickly wade out into the river, so I could help the other canoes come in faster. Someone screamed, “Be careful” from the bank. Nate Epple, a counselor of
It was a day in early March about five years ago. We went to Sugar mountain to practice skiing for our upcoming trip. We were staying for the long weekend. I had just started skiing and had gone to 2 ski lessons already. I was so excited to get to go on a real mountain just like my parents did every weekend as kids since they grew up in Wisconsin and Illinois. I thought about how I would be great at it and would be going on all these black diamonds. But, then I reality came through and I knew it would take practice. I was fascinated by the people sliding down the hill like it was as easy as walking to them. When could I go up the mountain.
I step into the cold, chilling air letting the wind brush against my face as I look around and see what is before me. I look into the distance and see rolling mountains dancing across the scenery. They are painted in mesmeric reds and different shades of orange all reminding me of an enthralling sunset. Snow falls, literally everywhere covering these rocks not revealing how massive they truly are. The whole scene reminds me of a Christmas card. It captivates your soul. I had was one single destination on my mind and I took a chance and it led me to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
As I step out onto my grandmother’s back porch, I remember losing my breath, not only from the bitter cold, but also from the captivating scene. I am immediately taken aback by the view. The entire ground, as far as my eyes can see, is coated in a hefty blanket of solid white. The light seems to dance atop the snow, making it glitter wherever the sun shines. All the trees around are snowcapped, as if sprinkled with powdered sugar.
I pulled into the driveway of my house and parked my car. I grabbed my coat and bag and opened the door. When I got out I instantly began to smell the sweet aroma of the long rose bushes making their way out of our fence and into the world of our driveway. I was so captivated by the fall breeze, and the beautiful smell of fall in the air that I didn't even know that I was to the door. As I snapped back into reality, I looked up and I was standing at my doorway.
I remember a time in my life not too long ago when my family and I went white water rafting for the first time. We had been spending some of our summer vacation at a cabin in the Smokey Mountains, close to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The next day we would experience feelings of exhilarating excitement, with a sense of suspense and anticipation as we rafted down the Nantahala River.
Ever since I was a young boy, I have been fascinated with the mountains. I would dream of climbing the highest of peaks with my trusty ice axe or snowboarding down a powdered slope sending a wave of snow with every carve. Spring, summer, fall or winter my fascination did not sway. The beauty of a mountain covered in snow, as if it were covered from top to bottom with a layer of white cotton, is breathtaking. See a backdrop of a sunset on a mountain top and the way the colors will bounce off it is a site you will never see the same way twice.
The flight to London felt like it took forever, we were all so tired and just wanted to take a shower and go to bed, but we had to get off that plane and get on another going to Scotland. When we finally landed in Scotland, I couldn’t believe I was actually in a foreign country, I was so excited. The first thing I did when we landed in Scotland was to look through the window, of course what I saw were other airplanes and men running around getting luggage and showing planes to the terminal. After we got all of our luggage and the rental car, we walked outside, as I looked around, I could see so much green in the distance; so many different colors of green. I had never seen so much beauty in one place.
It is an exciting thought to have been able to travel to different places throughout your lifetime. One country that has always sounded like an interesting vacation spot to me is Europe. The most commonly visited places in Europe are Paris, London, and Rome. The one place that stands out to me the most is Paris, France. Not only have I heard wonderful reviews about France, but I have also heard real life experiences from a group of students who went to my high school that visited Europe. The three best features of France, from what I can understand, would be the fantastic food, the soothing music and the informationally packed cultural facts.
I will never forget how a number of mundane occurrences created such a wonderful memory: my mother’s dislike of heights, my father’s horrible driving, the scenery, and the arrival at the top. My father parked the car, we all bundled up, and then we climbed out of the car. There was a lovely gift shop next to the Pike’s Peak sign. My family and I separated as we searched for souvenirs.
