I wish to study the “Nutrition” bachelor 's degree course because health is the most important thing in our live. Although “health is wealth”, health is priceless. That is why we have to be more concern about what we eat every day. Otherwise, you have a lot of money but you still can not do anything to gain the health. So, if we do not eat healthy, we will get sick easily; especially having malnutrition, obesity or anorexia.
My cultural background will be a great contribution to the Washington State University Coordinated Dietetics Program. Being raised in a Malasia, having visited different countries, and now living in the United States, I have experienced the similarities and differences among many diverse cultural groups and nutritional diets. This broad exposure to different cultures allowed me to relate to different types of people by understanding their ways and beliefs, a quality that will help me work well with other students and people. For example, many Malasians will eat something that is unhealthy in nutritional standards and has no benefits to the body. However, they will continue to consume it because it is common in their culture. I would like to teach Malasian people to look at food from a cultural and nutritional angle to be more healthful.

As a freshman, I was conflicted about what I wanted out of college. At the time, I naively believed that I would major in Neuroscience and Arabic while completing plenty of biomedical research on the side. Perhaps I would also sign up for a few clubs here and there and thus produce the perfect resume for medical school. In the following year, I realized that my heart was not into the breakneck agenda I planned for myself and I started to reevaluate just what exactly I wanted to pursue in my undergraduate experience. With the aid of many advising sessions I gained a clearer picture of my passions, which as I had come to realize, were what I truly wanted to work towards. Among my interests is Global Health -- in particular, I wish to learn more
Medicine as a profession encompasses numerous areas that strongly relate to everyday life. It provides us an opportunity to connect to people on multiple levels and maintain a lifelong relationship with them. This is the reason why I decided to pursue medicine. Diabetes in particular has always been my focus of interest. After completing my medical education, I started my professional career in Pakistan. Being a developing country, resources were scarce and general health care was not available to many. I have witnessed my loved ones suffering from diabetes and its complications and I have been exposed to the numerous ways in which this disease has influenced their lives.

I conducted a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching program to control hypertension among adults residing in selected rural areas of Bangalore in India. It happened to be my first exposure to the field of public health where I had an opportunity to interact with Bangalore’s slum-dwellers and witness their lifestyle, their access to the basic needs such as water, sanitation, and essential nutrients which raised a serious concern on my mind. Upon completion of the research,

It is so exciting to see the world of nutrition becoming recognized as invaluable in the public health arena. I currently work with oncology patients that are receiving radiation and chemotherapy to help provide symptom relief through nutrition management. This is an area of public health that I feel benefits greatly from nutrition education, support, and encouragement. I also help to provide oncology screening programs, obesity management programs, and generalized nutrition education programs to a small community population. It is the hope of the facility where I am employed that through preventative efforts we can impact the overall incidence of cancer rates in our community. I love being able to sit with patients to provide the nutrition education that may help them manage their symptoms, improve their overall health status, or simply provide them with reassurance that they are supported in this journey called life. I feel like God called has me to where I am in life to help these individual either via nutrition or just to share a word of encouragement that may help them make it through that day of treatments. Upon completion of my completion of my Master in Public Health I look forward to applying the skills, knowledge, and expertise that I gain to my current position to help provide my patients with the most up to date and current
