Knowing how to use statistical data and information can be a hugely beneficial in many aspects of your everyday life, whether you realize it or not. One of the most significant things that I have learned throughout these past weeks is probably about how big of an impact that statistics has on everyone’s lives, especially when dealing with safety and the regulations that are implemented in order to lower the chances of something going wrong. Understanding how to recognize data when you see it, knowing how to use statistical information when presented with it, and being able to think critically and ethically is very helpful in day to day life. It comes up frequently in mundane things such as looking at weather predictions and watching sports, but also has a huge impact in much more important things, such as safety, whether it be keeping everyone alive in some kind of transportion or preventing an unethical issue from happening. A requisite for developing inferential statistics supports general linear models for sampling distribution of the outcome statistic; researchers use the related inferential statistics to determine confidence (Hopkins, Marshall, Batterham, & Hanin, 2009).

Making rational assumptions about the human behavior is important because it guides people about how to predict, understand, explain, and control behavior (Psychology Today). As I researched the field of actuarial science, I decided that actuary should be synonymous with mathematical risk manager, for actuaries are responsible for figuring risk, minimizing risk, and minimizing the impacts of disasters that have already occurred. My usual reaction was to accept those statistics as being valid. Which I think is a fair assessment for most people. However, reading this chapter opens my eyes to the fact that statistical data can be very misleading. It shows how data can be skewed to support a certain group’s agenda. Although most statistical data presented may not seem to affect us personally in our daily lives, it can however have an impact.
