As a part of my endeavor to pursue higher studies I humbly submit the Statement of Purpose. This statement of purpose gives me a unique opportunity to pen down my desire and ambition. I have always been fascinated with science-oriented interests. I remember being young and intrigued by the complexity of the human body. As I grew, puzzles and critical thinking became essential to my learning process.
Recently, I have graduated Berks Catholic High School and prepared to take a first step for my future career. I have always had a strong interest in Science field, especially in Biology and Chemistry. This is related to one of the gifts I have; a curiosity.
Studying maths at AS-Level bettered my problem-solving skills and logical thinking which are necessary to pursue my studies within this field. Biology has improved my knowledge of the structure of the human body and how the different systems in the body work together to keep us alive. Chemistry has developed my understanding of how chemical reactions occur in the body including the ion movements in the nervous system, and has evoked my enthusiasm for neuropharmacology. This has also stemmed for studying how SSRI’s work to treat depression and OCD in psychology. Psychology influenced my fascination with memory and how we retain information.
My fascination in Electrical Engineering (EE) derived during my old “geek” days in my uncle’s TV repair shop, where to fix problems like heater-cathode short in CRT, failure of a component in the chroma circuit, we had to firstly test signals from different points according to the schematic, or identified the cold solder joints to confirm or rule out the possibilities. For me, the IC boards harbored all kinds of mystery of electronics and the journey to unveil it was a constant fascination: I admired the inherent logic through it and I relished the “eureka” moment at the very end of it. As a natural consequence, I majored in Electrical Engineering.
Attempting challenging problems and deciphering them is very satisfying and pleasing. I attended maths lectures that introduced me to new challenges and understand the principles of mathematics and relate this to my interest in physics such as mechanics. These maths lectures were very enjoyable and fuelled my interest in physics even more. I discovered this passion through my work in mathematics. This has outlined a path for me to follow in physics, particularly in astronomy.
It is my extreme privilege that I have been given an opportunity to express about myself in my very own context. The very fortunate thing ever happened to me was that I had a very good early education which helped me a lot in the following time i.e., during and after my schooling. As I grew up also did my interests, at first Mathematics was the only topic which always dominated my interests but later on my interests made a shift on to the field of sciences mainly Physical Sciences with the introduction of many interesting topics in it. That was the time since which the inception of my interest in the field of sciences begun. Learning had become the key part of my life since then.
The study of Science has always been a part of my life. My mother is a science teacher and took it upon herself to teach a science lesson at every opportunity. She tempted me with chemical reactions and techniques before I even knew there was a word for it. This foundation created an undeniable curiosity in the natural world and an insatiable drive to know “why”; why something happened, why it worked, why it was important. After entering the chemistry program at the University of Louisville I was faced with challenging classes that peaked my interests and offered a challenge that no other class seemed to have. People travel miles in search of their true passion; some find them early in their life and I consider myself lucky enough to be one among them. I found my true calling at the age of 12 on a field trip to a milk factory. It seemed like the Disneyland of science with huge machineries, conveyer belts running all around, and instruments working about in their own rhythm with sheer intricacies and perfection. As a kid, I was eager to understand the mechanics behind this magical rhythm. The desire of gaining in-depth knowledge about Control System and Automation eventually led me to choose Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering as my undergraduate study.
Throughout my school career I have always loved chemistry. In Chemistry there was always a sense that there was more, there was always something new and exciting to be discovered and theories to be proven (or even disproven). Chemistry was the main subject with a real practical aspect to it during school and it is this, along with my genuine fascination with the subject, which fuels my desire to study it further.
This perfectly holds true for me in the world of Computer Engineering where novel ideas are not a novelty. It is this novelty that entices me to this field and gives me a deep sense of professional pride. In this context, I would like to pursue my graduation in Computer Engineering, which not only supplements the knowledge that I possess but also provides a strong platform for my future career goals.
I have always had an assorted cluster of intellectual interests, but science was a large percentage of those. As experiences and a great deal of knowledge accumulated through the fascinating thirteen years of my life, the pieces that were once an unsolved puzzle began to come together. I realized that I wanted not to be a teacher, a police officer, a CEO of a business industry, but something just as influential as that: a NASA scientist. Space and my love of building seemed to come together when I was searching for a lead on what I would do later on in life, and I discovered that creating robots to explore the worlds beyond us was more than what I could ever ask for.
My enthusiasm and the strongly committed teachers I have encountered in my life have attributed to my success in math and science. Prior to going onto ninth grade, my Math classes dating back from middle school were never mentally straining. Math appealed to me because in eighth grade, my math teacher, Dr. Christopher, would encourage her class by recognizing our achievements with small rewards such as candies and ice cream passes during lunch. Subsequently, I believe that I excel in a countless amount of subjects. The foundation of nature and science has always fascinated me. This feeling originated since the time I was a child. Going outside and seeing the vibrant rays of the sun penetrate through the leaves of the maple tree in my back while swinging on an old rusty playset was enticing.
At this stage of my life, I have many ambitions, the first step of which is to carry out my Masters studies in Automotive Engineering. Attending U.K. universities is surely a dream for distinguished students all over the world, especially the ones who are passionate about education. Secondly and a more subtle reason being acquiring a degree that has global recognition has become a necessity if one desires to carve out a niche for oneself in this increasingly global economy. Given a chance I shall prove my worthiness.
From my perspective, excellent electronic engineers are a group of gifted and imaginative talents who bravely explore and innovate, change the world with passion and innovation. I have always dreamed of becoming one of them. For realizing this dream, I started from China 's Jilin University and then joined The University of Manchester for BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering to take more advanced professional courses. In UoM, I managed to gain GPA of 4.0. Yet, my pursuit of the dream does not end there, since I plan to apply for M.S. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Carnegie Mellon University, where I can receive the best education among the world.
