Every great civilization or dynasty has always had one thing in common – great structures. These mammoth man made marvels have stood the test of time and have magnetised volumes of information that are vibrant all over the city skyline. Coming from the Indian subcontinent, we still live in an era where old structures prevail amongst 21st century structures. Blessed with a keen eye to analyze and observe, I’ve always wanted to pursue a career where problems could be overruled through the inclusion of concepts and real time solutions. I have been a consistent performer since school days scoring a high 89.92% in grade 10 and an 85.16% aggregate in grade 12. I have always had an affinity towards mathematics which drove me towards my real passion - engineering. Naturally when considering tertiary study options, Civil Engineering was my first choice as I could see myself working in a field that allowed me to use various maths and physics concepts to solve problems instantaneously. The poise and versatility with which a civil engineer works fascinates me; which in turn led me to pursue my undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at B.M.S College of Engineering, Bangalore – one of the oldest most prestigious autonomous institutions under Visvesvaraya Technological University. Hailing from Davangere, a small town about 200kms from Bangalore, I have been independent during the entirety of my undergraduate degree. My four years at BMS helped me value the importance of time and valour of faculty who helped me shape my rough edges into a professional civil engineer. My interest towards civil engineering moved to another level when I met my roommate, a student of architecture. I have always had this dream where I see India adorned with sky scrapers, highways and bridges all over the nation. I am a proud Indian and want to give back to the nation that has given me my identity. My graduate degree at NCSU would be perfect gateway towards this dream as I would be part of a diverse student body whose aim is to be the best in all walks of life. I intent to learn inside and outside the classroom as the more I absorb, the more it would reflect on my work and towards the accomplishment of my dream and the dream of many others – a developed India.
I hope to leave NC State as a young adult who is ready and prepared to enter society with a determined mindset and hard work ethic. I believe that I will be perfectly capable of achieving my goals and and aspirations as an NC graduate, and will graduate with the experience to take on challenges that may await me in a future career. Although I am still unsure of my desired field of study, I am confident that I will be able to discover a career path I will enjoy through the Exploratory Studies college. I am excited to enroll as an undergraduate student at NC State, and look forward to the opportunities ahead of me in the college of Exploratory
I look forward to attending graduate school for school counseling. Attending the University of North Carolina will allow me the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to aid students facing a variety of difficult situations. I am ready to take the next step in my career as a school counselor.

In conclusion, I was fortunate enough to understand many important things in life. Right from my school days, I have always shown a high degree of competence and interest in subjects like Mathematics and Science. I scored 88 marks in Mathematics & 84 marks in Science in Secondary School (10th standard). It was with this motivation that I took up the Science stream in my senior school. I completed my senior school with first class grade. My fairly good performance at secondary and senior school gave me the confidence to take Engineering as my career.

The civil engineering field is about gathering and interpreting data, being able to give technical presentations to colleagues, team work to design and build a project, projects range from the design and construction of dams, bridges, buildings, roads, and water supply systems. In most cases the works of engineers are admired and sought after. Engineers play an important role in the development and improvement of a society. Yet, like other technical and non-engineering careers the civil engineers also face issues, for example, regarding ethics, high energy building consumption, increased soil and coastal erosion, inadequate water quality, traffic congestion, and some poor infrastructures resilience to disasters. Another example is that unfortunately in the United Kingdom, the civil engineering industry is highly fragmented with 93% of companies having 14 or fewer employees which is not always a great idea, as written by John Miles in Civil Engineering Informatics. There is also a need to implement new professional and educational approaches to new challenges and new implications that are needed for the twenty-first century society. This paper will introduce and explain five different issues that civil engineers are currently facing and elaborate about how these challenges interrelate to each other.
Today's problems are more complex and the needs of current and future societies have created challenges for engineering unparalleled in our history. The use of electronic data collection methods and the application of computers has revolutionized the practice of Civil Engineering. To interpret and satisfy these needs, Civil Engineers currently direct the spending of more than one tenth of Canada's gross national product, more than any other professional group. The Civil Engineer must deal with the human impact of engineering. Social, moral and legal issues concern us to a far greater degree than ever before.
I can easily say that the University of Colorado-Boulder is the perfect place that I can see myself achieve success in my architectural engineering career, the place I would call home for the next four years, learning and making friends. Throughout these years I know I will be able to make a difference throughout society and not just be a number or a statistic.
There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. I maintained a good academic profile during my undergraduate study, ranking among the top 6% of my graduating class. During my undergraduate study, it was the field of Transportation Engineering that caught my special interest and ever since I have strived to achieve my dream of becoming a Transportation Engineer. My interest for Transportation Engineering was sparked by courses such as Transportation Engineering and Highway Engineering in my third year. These courses introduced me to the fundamentals of traffic engineering and geometric design of roads respectively. As part of the course requirements, we undertook a mini project where we carried out traffic survey and subsequently undertook traffic analysis for a major road in Kumasi, Ghana. We also carried out parking studies and analysis, and presented our results to a panel of Lecturers. Subsequently, I majored in Transportation Engineering in my final year. To augment the theoretical knowledge gained in class, I interned at Ussuya Construction Limited (construction of spintex road 4.0km) during my long vacation, where I gained knowledge in surveying, supervision of road works amongst other
