While I was searching for a captivating career for life during my BDS, something that would grip my mind and keep me thirsting for more, I was captivated by the sphere of public health and similar issues which were not localized to any one nation but had global ramifications if not arrested on time. My search ended for I had found my calling. Today a desire to be a part of the leading force of public health professionals brings me to the Masters Degree course in Public Health at your University.
An ambitious, energetic and dedicated student I have been diligent about my goals, education as well as the co-curricular arena. At the Holy Family High School I learnt that morals and success go hand in hand. Desirous of becoming a dentist I gave my all to the course which took me closer to my goal with the dawn of each day. However in my third year I was introduced to Public Health and Community Dentistry. At the various camps which I attended I learned about simple yet inexpensive and effective methods of treatment. On the other hand my active participation in the seminars and projects further added to my desire of becoming a member of a larger community that worked for the well being of society.
For a while now I have been seizing every opportunity that has come my way to get a hands-on experience in the field of medicine. A presentation on ‘Use of Fluorides in Dentistry’ and a seminar on ‘Maintenance of Good Oral Hygiene’ enabled me to get a good grasp of the area under study. My passion and admiration for the healthcare field began during my teenage years, when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis—a chronic, autoimmune disease affecting various joints throughout my body. As I went through years of treatment, my physician and other medical professionals were instrumental in helping me to maintain a positive attitude after my diagnosis. Their care was the impetus for my future goals, as I saw the genuine goodness that they felt from helping others. As a result of all the medical help and emotional support that I received from these medical providers throughout my youth, I have chosen to pursue a career in the service of others through the public health field.

Growing up with financial troubles has fostered empathy for those less privileged in our community and has taught me to be open-minded to others’ circumstances, appreciate diversity and to be unprejudiced, which I believe is an essential tool as a dentist who deals with a variety of social groups. Besides continuing to live in America, completing my studies and practicing in this country would be the highest honor. I am strong in both mentality and fitness and possess the disposition to undertake the demands of being a dental student and a dentist. Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health. My ambition, perseverance, and work ethic have brought me to a high point, and enrolling in the Masters in Public Health program would raise that threshold even higher.

I feel that my love for arts, such as painting, sketching, sewing, and playing the piano will help to make me a great dentist, as these hobbies have helped to perfect my fine motor skills. Additionally, my love for the sciences led me to join a research project where I studied the teeth of mice infected with periodontal disease.
