Statement of Philosophy of Education
My philosophy of teaching and education in general is very broad at this stage in my career. I am sure that as I teach in future years, my philosophy of teaching will change as I gain experience. As for now though, the following paper will describe the way I feel about teaching, learning and education in general.
First, I view learning as a journey the students take throughout their school careers and throughout life. I feel that on this journey, teachers are placed in the position to help guide these students to their destination, or at least help them on their way. This journey would include hurdles and obstacles that would be overcome and some that would be left for later teachers to try to help the students past. I know that as a teacher, it is important for me to help the students to truly understand concepts being taught that will help them in later mathematics classes and in their lives in the future. I also feel that a good basic tool for teachers to help provide students with that will enable them to be more prosperous in life is the concept of problem solving. This tool reaches far past mathematics. I believe that students are not just buckets that we, as teachers, are to pour knowledge into hoping that none leaks out. I do believe though that the teacher should reach for opportunities to help connect the content material to previous knowledge and experiences of the students.
As for the teacher’s role in the students’ lives, I feel again that he/she should be a guide for the students in their journey through mathematics. I feel that the teacher should help the students in their problems in the content and also be creative in teach...

... the students’ lives. I know too many people who never feel that their life will amount to anything, and if I can affect just one life and make a difference in that one, I will be satisfied. I had many teachers in my school career, but I can honestly say that my mathematics teachers had the greatest affect on my life. I see this in my personal life and in the way I teach and feel that teaching math should be handled.
One of my favorite statements about education is “Education is what survives when what has been learnt has been forgotten,” by B.F. Skinner. I feel that this is such a valid statement and one of the main reasons I feel that by teaching a child to truly learn and as they travel on their journey in life to pick up tools that will not only help them in their classes in school, but those that will help them be productive and happy adults.
Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world. Although, it is a challenging cancer to treat more ways and treatments are being presented and studied daily. Lung cancer is a deadly disease that presents many problems in a person’s life. There are ways to decrease your chance of developing cancer, but there are too many environmental factors that play a role in cancer to be sure you can positively prevent it.
Likewise, lung cancer affects people who have never smoked due to the presence of radon and household pollutants. Radon has contributed to 10% of all lung cancer deaths and is considered second to smoking. There is no way to predict who will get cancer, but inherited genetic risk factors make some people more vulnerable to carcinogenic exposures than others. Lung cancer starts whenever there is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal tissue cells that affect the normal function within the lungs. As these abnormal cells grow they form tumors which can block the oxygen exchange within the body. (Lungcancer.org, 2014).
The cancer risks also caused by long-established activities such as working in an oil refinery or living near a high voltage power line are not large. Apart from skin cancers due to sunlight, the only substantial and widespread cancer risk known to be caused by an avoidable environmental factor in developed countries is the further increase in lung cancer among smokers caused by indoor radon escaping from the ground or from building materials, although both indoor and outdoor air pollution from fossil fuels may also contribute to the risk in smokers. The risk to non-smokers is relatively trivial in developed countries, but burning fossil fuels indoors without adequate ventilation certainly contributes to the high lung cancer rates even in non-smokers seen in parts of China.
This essay is aimed to explore, analyse and discuss smoking in adults. Smoking is a public health issue as such is one of the major contributors to high mortality and ill-health in the adults which is preventable (Health and Excellence Care (NICE) (2012). The United Kingdom (UK) is known to have the highest number of people with a history of smoking among people with low socio-economic status (Scriven and Garman, 2006; Goddard and Green, 2005). Smoking is considered a serious epidemic in the UK and the National institute for Health and Excellence Care (NICE, 2012) stated that 28% of adults with low economic status are tobacco smokers compared with 13% of those with economic status or having professional incomes. Furthermore almost 80,000 people died in England in 2011 as a result of smoking related issues and 9,500 admissions of children died due to being second hand smokers (WHO, 2005). This essay focuses on definition of smoking, the aim is to underline the relationship between smoking and the determinants of health and then, the size, prevalence, and morbidity trend of smoking will be explored. Furthermore, some public health policies introduced to confront the issues around smoking will be investigated and finally, the roles of nurses will identify health needs the public so as to promote good health and their wellbeing.
As a sophomore, I was required to compile a genre of educational philosophies and create my own philosophy in the process. Today, as a senior I am required to “revise” that statement into one that is sophisticated and intelligent based on new information that I have received in the last two years. One instructor said to me, “Your view on educational elements may have changed,” and another said, “Randy, your philosophy on the way you view yourself as a teacher and the view of your classroom may have evolved into a more manageable, realistic perspective,” and they were both right.
Upon being faced with the task of writing my philosophy of teaching, I made many attempts to narrow the basis for my philosophy down to one or two simple ideas. However, I quickly came to the realization that my personal teaching philosophy stems from many other ideas, philosophies, and personal experiences. I then concentrated my efforts on finding the strongest points of my personal beliefs about teaching and what I have learned this semester, and came up with the following.
Many years ago, Burr and Holliday performed a study that analyzed the dramatic difference in mortality rates involving lung disease in South Wales and England. It was determined that there was a significantly higher rate of respiratory disease and symptoms thereof in Wales compared to that of England. This specific study set out to find whether this drastic inconsistency correlated with the smoking patterns and social classes of each region.
My Philosophy Statement Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal is to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique and unique.
Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. They are our constant companions, until we grow old enough to come out of their shadow and move ahead on our own.
Along these two weeks we have been prompt to make a recall to our own way of learning and why we became a teacher: Was it because coincidence, due to life circumstances, maybe because family tradition, was it a conscious decision or because someone influenced us? Whatever the answer is, we have to face reality and be conscious that being a teacher does not only means to teach a lesson and asses students learning. It requires playing the different roles a teacher must perform whenever is needed and required by our learners, identify our pupils needs and preferences, respecting their integrity and individuality but influencing and motivating them to improve themselves and become independent.

The probability of lung cancer forming consists of a smoker’s consumption. The greater the consumption, the risks of cancer increases. In a study of the population on men who smoked, in 1990, it showed a decline in deaths of men who smoked from 880 per million to around 628 per million by 1999. Female with lung cancer were half the amount at only 301 deaths per million in the year 1999 (Nursing Times.Net, 2004). The trachea becomes inflamed causing severe pain. As a result of this it causes the collapse of the airways making it more difficult to breath. As it continues mucus begins to clog the airway and the poison of the cigarettes destroy the air sacs decreasing the flow of blood and oxygen. Although curriculum is developed by Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) so that teachers can be more aware of what they are expected to teach throughout the year, many people can influence the curriculum. These include; business owners, government, higher education, such as universities, special interest groups, parents and carers, teachers and childcare professionals and students who modify it to suit their needs (ACARA, 2013). An example of this is some business owner’s need young apprentices with certain hospitality certificates, and now as a result of greater vocational emphasis, higher years of schooling now accommodate to these students’ needs...

One very important factor in every life is the education received as we mature. Education in all subjects is necessary to become a well-rounded individual. Even so, I feel that my subject area has more significance in one’s future because every person uses mathematics every day. Students need to understand why mathematics is important and why they will need it in the future. The way to do that is integrated into the views of the role of the teacher. Teachers need to be encouraging role models that provide students with safety, nurturing, and support in the classroom, along with providing excellent instruction by allowing students to explore and expand their minds in the content of mathematics. Teachers should set high expectations for all students and persuade the students to live up to those expectations. Along the same lines, teaching and learning are complementary concepts. Students need for the teacher to provide them with the knowledge that will be used not only in that class but also in their future endeavors. ...
