The world of microbes is an invisible one, hidden behind the visible curtain of living existence; yet it’s well perceived by humans. Being both beneficial and baleful, the influence of microorganisms on our lives must be accepted unanimously. Such a fact is simply awe inspiring and rhymed with my predilection to biology, encouraging me to build up an academic interest in bioscience, particularly microbiology.
Since my secondary studies, the interesting facts and findings of biology caught my attention more than any other fields of science. My inclination toward biology was reflected by perfect grades during my secondary and post-secondary studies. During my undergrad studies from University of Dhaka, nation’s top research University, I majored in Microbiology. There, an elaborative coursework on eclectic areas of microbiology allowed me to gain in depth knowledge about the role of microbes in human health, lifestyle and environment; both good and hazardous. I wanted to pursue my carrier as a researcher in this specialized field of biology so that I could contribute something positive for the human society through innovative findings.
During my undergraduate research project, I had the opportunity to work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mozammel Hoq, My research project focused on the production of cellulase by Trichoderma spp. using submerged fermentation technique at a renowned institution ,Bangladesh Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). Cellulase enzyme has practical application in textile industries. This research experience intensified my interest for pursuing higher education in related fields . Jennifer Ackerman's main focus in her article The Ultimate Social Network, is that of the functions concerning bacteria within humans. Although scientists have had presumptions about humans being proficient in governing their body’s innermost structure, they soon come to recognize the sophistication of our inner space which holds an extensive plethora of bacteria and other microorganisms that lie within each and every one of us. Moreover, scientists' new and emerging view of how the human body operates, and the cause of increasing present-day diseases (i.e. obesity and different autoimmune disorders) are uncovered by analyzing effects of certain microbe species in our bodies. By italicizing on points such as the above, in conjunction with bacteria's genetic variations, and modern computing technology, the author proves that scientists are quickly progressing with the characterization the most prevalent species of microbes, which, in her opinion, is definitely paying off.
...out sanitation, infrastructure, and hygiene can greatly reduce global health disparities worldwide. In addition, research is another fundamental necessary in ensuring human health quality for individuals. I admire the researchers who commit in finding answers to fight against chronic diseases occurring worldwide. I have significantly respect the researchers who work together in discovering new diseases and treatments affecting individuals globally and not only fulfilling one country’s needs. It is my desire to become one of those researchers in the next ten years contributing in global health and decreasing global health inequalities in order to provide health care equality for every human being living in the world. We need to work together, globally, and collaborate in order to end health inequalities and the pursuit of human equality in the sake of social justice.
In short, the book 'Deadly Companions: How Microbes Shaped Our History' explains the dynamism, the changing interactions between humans and microbes, and the way and extent to which these interactions have influenced the human cultural history. This book is very useful because it tell us that we must strive to understand what makes microbes successful as we are faced with unrelenting microbial drug resistance. Microbes mutate to fatal human pandemics and it’s for this reason that we need to adopt a microbe centric world views.
...standing the nature of relationship between the residing microbes inside human cells and about their function is very important to put an end to this war and to live in peace with the natural organisms that are benefitting human body and their survival has become our primary importance.
...rt of my undergraduate preparation. I hope to make some substantial progress on my project with Dr. Pellegrini and have presentable data by the end of the program and contribute to the scientific community. I also look forward to networking with fellow SPUR-LABS students and faculty. In my time at UCLA, I have realized that research is all but a solo act. It is a cooperative endeavor, and being in the program will provide a collaborative and supportive environment for me to succeed. Ideally, I would like to have at least one paper published during my undergraduate career. C.S. Lewis once said, “Experience: the most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God, do you learn.” Such experiences, especially SPUR-LABS will hopefully aid my journey to graduate school and my pursuit of a Ph.D. and work in academia and work alongside of the professors and mentors I have today.
My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
This may sound like the beginning of a horror movie, but it isn’t. It is actually a very basic description of a very broad subject: microbiology.
To excel in the field of Biology is not merely my dream, but my passion. I have started on this path of never-ending discovery and I want to master this science. It would not be unjustifying to state that the world is a better place today because of the advances in biological sciences. Gene Technology and Biotechnology are a boon to this world. Putting microorganisms to use in the formation of insu...
This world, or what scientist would call a “microbiome,” is one of the deadliest battle fields for workers in the hospital and healthcare fields. Thanks to the development of technology in the microbiology field, scientists are now able to view and identify the pathogens that invade the human body. Rest and fluids are not strong enough to diminish these invaders; the weapons
