Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities including: National Honor Society, student council, National Council on Youth Leadership, student ambassador, drama club, yearbook, and chamber choir. It is throughout these activities that I have felt myself grow as a person and have found many opportunities to shine as a leader. The Burger King scholarship is an amazing opportunity and an extremely generous foundation. It is with the help of this foundation that allows for people to make their dreams come true. I am grateful to of been chosen as a Burger King Scholar and will use the scholarship to make a difference.

In my junior year of high school, I joined the leadership program called ASB, also known as associated student body. I had the honor and role of being the school’s unofficial videographer to promote events with videos and short films posted on our social media sites because of my passion for video editing and artistic abilities. I also became responsible as being chairman for one of our committees to organize special recognition events for our senior athletes. ASB made my work stressful and challenging, but it was a good way to connect with others.
Despite not being a part of over 20 different organizations, as some claim to be, being a part of a smaller number of groups has allowed me to focus on developing my leadership skills more thoroughly than I could otherwise. Not spreading myself too thin has made me much more committed and involved in the organizations that I am a part of, making my influences so much stronger. I firmly believe that I am trying my absolute best not only in school, but in leaving my comfort zone and being an active member in our community. I am honored that I have been considered for such a prestigious invitation as
Throughout everyday tasks in the classroom, or outside of school, I step up and lead those who need to be led. I constantly find new opportunities to lead others and help the situation any way I can. Every summer the band has a marching band camp for a week straight that we must all attend. Being an experienced band member, I step up and assist all underclassmen and show then where to go and what they need to be doing. Instead of getting frustrated when giving the freshman directions, I am calm and collect and walk them step by step until they understand, something most leaders would not have time or patience for. With many plans to help others and lead within my community, I believe that I have what it takes to be a strong, and powerful leader for the National Honor Society.
Being only 18 years old, I believe that I have accomplished a lot within my small amount of time on this earth. For me, the high school experience was not simply going to school, completing the schoolwork and repeating that day to day. For me, high school was about making tangible memories. It is within extracurricular actives that I found myself as a leader and honed in on my planning and organizational skills. National Honor Society(NHS) has played a tremendous part in this. NHS stands for its four pillars - scholarship, leadership, service, and character. It is through these four pillars that I have felt myself grow as a person and have found many opportunities to shine as a leader. This year, I was elected the President of our National
The best leadership accomplishment that demonstrates my potential to make significant contributions to the campus community and broader society is cheerleading. Cheerleading has made a huge impact on my life and has created many opportunities for me. It has paved the way for my high school career. Cheerleading provided me with opportunities to lead, volunteer, perform and show the athletic ability of our squad.
The case of Burger King Corporation v. Rudzewicz, 471 U.S. 462, 105 S. Ct. 2174, 85 L. Ed. 2d 528 (1985) addressed the issue of personal jurisdiction and whether or not it violates the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The plaintiff, Burger King, is a Florida corporation whose principal offices are located in Miami. The defendant, John Rudzewicz, was a resident of Michigan and a principal of a Michigan franchise. Rudzewicz, as a franchisee owner, had been given a license to use Burger King’s name and logo (trademarks) to operate a Burger King in Michigan. The contract between the franchisor and franchisee stated that the franchisor relationship (contract) is under the control of Florida. Other provisions of the contract include required monthly payments of fees and royalties to Miami headquarters, and all major decisions and problems had to be communicated with headquarters. In addition, the franchisee had to conduct business at a leased restaurant facility for 20 years. However, the defendant failed to fulfill franchisee obligations by not keeping up with his monthly payments of fees and royalties that he owed to Burger King in Florida. As a result, Burger King sued for a diversity suit against Rudzewicz in an effort to get back the money that they were owed. Burger King claimed a breach of contract, specifically the “Franchise Agreement”, between Burger King (the franchisor) and Rudzewicz (the franchisee). The case eventually made it all the way to the United States Supreme Court (Case Briefs).
Also, I have been granted spots in Alpha Chi Honor Society and Psi Chi Honor Society. This past year, I served as secretary at Alpha Chi. This position helped me learn how to work well with other members of a leadership team, and helped me create a successful food drive for those in need in Anderson. Being a part of a leadership team was an awarding experience, and I am excited to be a part of it again this coming fall.
Because of this club experience, students will be better college candidates due to their leadership skills. Future success will be a topic we discuss, especially through application of skills we educate. Our focus is not service or diversity, rather educating students with the necessary skills to make a difference and be successful during and after high school.
It was during my second year of high school that I first heard of the Pruitt Memorial Scholarship. I suddenly felt hope for my future. Hope that I would be able to attend college, and hope that I would be given the chance to fight for my very large dreams. My passion is theatre and my goal is that someday I will be able to teach others about my passion and spread the magic of theatre around the world, but to be able to do that requires lots of education. The Pruitt Memorial Scholarship opened the door for me to pursue this dream. Now, I just had to acquire the scholarship, and that meant performing volunteer community-service.
Burger King, the second largest burger chain in the world with roughly 13,000 outlets in 86 countries, originates back to the early 1950’s. Approximately 97% of the total of all Burger King restaurants are franchised. The company accounts for roughly 12% of the total fast food hamburger sales in the United States (Market Line, 2013). With its headquarters based in Miami, Florida, Burger King over the years of its existence has made a strong effort to expand not only all over the United States but also globally.
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
VASJ is a place I always wanted to be at and from the start, I knew that I wanted to get involved. Starting with freshman year, I joined the basketball team. Last year I was on the freshman team and this year I'm on the JV team. Being apart of this team really helps me with leadership. Someone has to step up every practice to be the leader to keep that practice serious. I also joined the ambassadors group. Being apart of this is a great way to be the leaders of the school. We always have to make sure we are doing the right thing and that we are leading by example. In the beginning of this year, I went to the Alleluia Ball with current classmates. The Alleluia Ball provides tuition assistance for families with children in Catholic schools in
This year my honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, and I participated in the Martin Luther King Day of Service Project. This project offered awards to organizations that positively impact the community. In addition, the project honored Dr. King’s legacies of non-violent activism, racial equality, service to others and social uplift. This was a 10-week project in which we served our community for eight weeks. Although I’ve participated in this project for
