Statement of Purpose
It's a little wonder that my feet were placed on the path to serving community/people through dentistry.Surrounded by people dedicated to delivering compassionate care,I was taught values and ideas for contributing to other's live.

Everytime I smiled or laughed, my classmates would make fun of me.The reason being that I have these yellowish white stains on my teeth, since then I have always been curious to know what these stains were, how they formed and so on.Academically as I moved on to my higher grades , my determination of becoming a dentist strengthened even more as I was really keen to know

The intership has given me a solid foundation in practicum and practice from which I have been able to build an excellent base of practical professional experiences. Any Dentist has a connection with their community, demonstrating tangibly their commitment to helping others. To this end ,I have volunteered my time at "Alandi Primary health care center" in rural area. The work gave me a chance to gain direct patient contact, and exposure to multidisciplinary medical terms.Volunteering with Indiana Mission of Mercy project ,left a very deep impact on me. I saw the dedicating nature of people that spend their valuable time serving large mass of people through whatever they could do as per their
All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
I was born in Inglewood, CA son of two immigrant parents. As a young boy, I always knew the importance of education, it was engrained in me by my mother and father. They both grew up in Mexico where they both loved school until their economic hardships forced them to come to the U.S. and work. I was the first generation in my family to go to college and will be the first to pursue a graduate degree.
Out of all the careers in the world, a dental hygienist probably has one of the most interesting and flexible jobs. Not only is this career interesting and flexible, but it is also very helpful towards others and usually pays pretty well too. Many people become dental hygienists because of the easy education requirements and high demand for their jobs. These days, dental hygienists are more respected and being hired more rapidly due to the fact that more and more people are keeping and taking better care of their teeth. They also say that at the end of the day they feel accomplished in knowing that they helped improved their patient’s health, even if only in the slightest way (“Interview with a Professional”).
Milder had terminal cancer. I was immediately distraught, wondering how Dr. Milder could operate his practice despite knowing his diagnosis. I gradually realized that it was Dr. Milder's commitment to the practice of dentistry that empowered him to serve others in the face of overwhelming personal adversity. Inspired by Dr. Milder’s optimism and persistence, I started participating in the San Diego County Dental Society initiatives he introduced me to, where I discovered how dentists came together to treat homeless veterans, raise funds for educational programs, and deliver oral hygiene supplies to underserved neighborhoods. I now aspire to follow in these proactive dentists’ footsteps and extend my reach beyond private practice by caring for individuals without adequate resources, promoting public knowledge of oral health, and mentoring future dentists. Although Dr. Milder will not watch my career develop, furthering his chain of compassion as a leader in the dental community will honor his legacy and produce a lifetime of fulfillment and
My ambition for studying a degree for dental hygiene propagated during my research about it. I am very much aware of the importance of the hygienist's role in maintaining the patient's health as I have already experienced it during work experience in a dental surgery. I enjoy helping patients and I am able to communicate with different types of people. I can handle difficult situations in a small period of time without hesitation. I read scientific journals and enjoy researching about science and learning about the human body to develop my knowledge. I am currently studying BTEC level 3 sciences at St Albans Academy. I also achieved a gold Duke Of Edinburgh award and demonstrated effective leadership skills during my expeditions and practises. I The role of a dental hygienist comes with a big responsibility
To be honest my initial inspiration to take the dental therapy and hygienist course was from my mother, who would say ‘If more people had healthy teeth, more people would smile’.For me this statement was a turning point ,as it lead me to wondering that maybe the lack of clean and healthy teeth , is actually the prime reason to why many of us today do not smile enough , causing less unity between the people in our society. Hence from my research into the dental world, I settled on this course as it gives an opportunity for me to not only learn how to provide an assistance to the dentists trying to spread clean teeth ,but also get a chance to help and encourage younger, elder and those with disabilities to carry out the dental treatments, so
I am fortunate that my experiences have made me aware of these things so that when I do return to these communities as a dentist, I can not only better serve my patients as a provider, but I can also be a leading advocate for the change that is so desperately needed by the individuals in these communities. As I continue along my career path in dentistry, I intend to keep volunteering in dental clinics in underserved communities as well as participating in formal organizations such as Saving Smiles to more effectively address these issues as well as enhance my understanding of the dental field. Perhaps while I serve in these communities, I can inspire and support future health professionals that will continue to advance the incredible changes that our health fields are currently
I can remember being a little boy sitting at the piano in church, listening to the preacher talk of how Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, which symbolizes the idea that we are here to serve. That message profoundly resonated with me throughout life. It was not until I began accompanying my grandmother to her multiple dental visits that I was able to see how I could put this calling of service into action. I saw firsthand the significant positive impact my grandmother’s dentist was able to make in her life, which encouraged me to want to learn about the field of dentistry. I then started researching dental health and learning of the importance of oral healthcare and how it affects the entire body. I then began to learn of how patient access to proper dental care was limited because of several factors such as, financial barriers, transportation, and dental fear, especially in the underserved minority communities. Given the shortage of black dentists, I realized I could make a positive difference by being an inspiration to those in the community, as well as serve in a professional career that would provide needed healthcare to the community. This is when I began to develop such a strong passion for
My interest in the dental industry happen by total happenstance. As a successful cosmetologist, I wasn 't planning on being in this industry nor did I have any interest dentistry initially. By someone 's advice I decided to take a chance on it. Upon my visit to a ten week dental assisting program, I met with an admissions counselor. She, also a cosmetologist, mentioned that she noticed a lot cosmetologists transitioning over into dentistry. That sparked an interest in me to look into other more reputable schools. I thought about the two industries and how much they have in common. Things like dentistry being very skill-based and having an aspect of art. There is definitely a certain level of hand skills that you have to have, as well as working
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
Choosing a particular profession is one of the most important decisions that we take in our life. .In my opinion, I would like to focus on a career that is enjoyable, productive, creative and simultaneously allows you to work for the betterment of humanity. According to me, one of the most productive and fulfilling career that provides you various opportunities to help and promote humanity is that of a dentist. Becoming a dentist requires a lot of hard work dedication but the factor that motivates you to face these difficulties is the actual pleasure gained when you are able to change someone’s life by creating a beautiful and healthy smile for them and the joy of which could not be expressed.
I decided to pursue my MPH degree to be followed with the Residency in Dental Public Health. Now, more than ever there is a need for public control and prevention of disease with healthcare costs spiraling out of control.
