Statement of purpose We live in a continually changing world; however, my passion of engineering broke that fact. I can always remember when I was a kid how much I was obsessed with how the stuff around me functioned. When I was six years old, I disassembled my father mechanical alarm clock to see how it works; I still remember the glaze in my eyes while watching the gears inside the clock moving in a specific way to make this beautifully elegant yet simple invention. I became more interested in the application of the mechanics and I wanted to create stuff and gain hands on experience. My greatest motivation to choose Mechanical Engineering career was an extracurricular course that I attended during my High School sophomore year. Along with my tutor and team, I was able to create a solar powered robot. The robot was able to move without hitting obstacles, and it was able to do various tasks including crawling movements. That was a great opportunity for me to develop my leadership skills in my favored career. Moreover, the course also included an insight in machine design, which was a great enforcer to my stance on my college major choice. Furthermore, When I attended college I joined the robotics team and became the team lead at Prairie View A&M university and competed in the IEEE R5 Robotics Competition. I am Egyptian; however, I attended elementary, secondary and high school in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. My family then moved to the United States of America and I became a resident there; I then started to attend college in USA. The first question that comes to any person’s mind when he/she knows that I am a foreigner is “Where did you learn English?” This story began back when I was four years old. First, I was born in Egypt, and then when I was four months old the family moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for work. It was my time to start school; I went to a school called Asia School; the name obviously indicates that the school’s population was mostly Asian. It is considered as one of the best schools in Saudi Arabia. This school taught me all the fundamentals of my education and also I got the chance to deal with people from various backgrounds. Then, in 2002 my dad’s employer moved him to another city. So, it was time to move on after I was settled in my life and with my friends. I had to start all over in a new place, attend another school, and deal with people from different backgrounds than I am used to. Then for the third time, my father got relocated to the united states and I had to start and repeat all over again. All of those events in my life allowed me to deal with people from completely different life backgrounds and have education through completely different
The first and second year after moving from China to the United States, I was afraid to talk to strangers because my English was not very well. I had to depend on my husband for dealing with my personal business, such as making a doctor’s appointment, calling to the bank, or questioning to DMV officers. Douglass says, “being a slave for life began to bear heavily upon my heart” (62). For myself, being a dependent and helpless adult is a shame. On May 28th, 2012, I was able to come to Portland, Oregon from Ethiopia. School wasn’t easy for me. I remember, I couldn’t understand what the teachers or the students were saying. I would cry and beg my mom to let me stay home because I felt left out at school. I usually sat in the back row to avoid questions from the teachers. However, I was fortunate to be a part of the Upward Bound program. It helped me to navigate resources and to improve my English. It was difficult to integrate into a new American culture, but I didn’t allow that to discourage me. I went after different opportunities to improve my English skills. I began to read more books, study hard, and even joined a soccer team, which gave me confidence to express myself. I
I loved working with others to create projects, such as catapults and bottle rockets, and understanding the math behind their mechanisms. I even took a Calculus II course at Phoenix College the fall semester of my senior year. I knew engineering was the perfect career that combined both the creativeness of physics and the logic of math. Currently, I believe that I will study electrical engineering in college. However, my mind has changed slightly.
Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. From car trivia to novel innovations, my innate passion for the automotive industry has always made me research the minutest detail of every vehicle that interested me. Since elementary school I would draw sketches of cars which incorporated technology which were unheard of at that time; novel devices such as electrochromic windshields, HUD displays, and wind turbines which would constantly re-generate electricity for the car. While growing up, my hobbies largely consisted of constructing countless Lego and Meccano sets, and repairing my mom’s 19 year-old car. In middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects: applying science and mathematics to solve real-world problems has fascinated me and I have also taken further steps to reach my goals. By the age of thirteen I devised a scaled model of a heliostat power plant, which successfully powered a light bulb. Engineering has been a key interest of mine since childhood. While still in grade school I enjoyed listening to my father, an electrical engineer, teach me about advances in technology, and was always eager to hear more. I was introduced to my first computer at the age of five, and have loved interacting with them ever since. My decision to study engineering as a career was no surprise to those who knew me.
so I decided on Aerospace engineering and started over. I was inspired to be an engineer by the projects and missions that NASA has accomplished through the years. The Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Apollo missions have allowed me to think bigger and imagine myself as one of the people who make those projects possible. I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Have you ever thought about how people like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates became the people who everybody knows? Imagine if those guys have a bachelor’s degree how more successful they could be. I have asked myself the question above and I found out that they were going for the things that they loved. For instance, when Steve Jobs was young he liked everything what was related to mechanisms. He built his first computer right in the garage. I am applying for mechanical engineering program in science department because it is my thing and I am 100% sure I will be a good engineer. I am very thankful for HCC to offer such a great opportunity that I want to take. I always loved mechanisms and wanted to know how they work. That’s why I chose to be a mechanical engineer.
After attaining a first class undergraduate degree in Applied Psychology from Kinnaird College, Lahore, Pakistan, I felt I should gain some practical experience and first-hand knowledge of what the life of a psychology degree holder entails. Up to now, I have not found a solution to these questions and answering these questions is a personal aspiration of mine which I aim to fulfil by achieving a degree in Chemical engineering and eventually I will contribute to the field in my own unique way. The debate surrounding sustainable energy fascinates me, having recently learned from personal research I have understood what an authoritative role chemists and chemical engineers play in the industry at the present time and how, by working as a team, they contribute to an improved future for the whole world. However, one of the main reasons that has single-mindedly driven me this far to want to study chemical engineering is a book I have read, “Beyond the Molecular Frontier: Challenges for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering” While reading this book, I had solidified my understandings of what chemical engineering is all about. Also, one of the main processes mentioned was polymerisation and is something I already study in A-level chemistry, it is something that not only interests me, but is a personal career aspiration of mine. Reading this book gave me a determination to be the person who helps improve the future of the industry and provide an answer to the questions I always ask myself by studying this degree.

Ever since I was young, I knew that I wanted to make change in the world. When I was younger, I didn't how I was going to do this. As I got through my sophomore year of high school, I realized that I was good at math and had lots of interest in science but got bored in social studies classes. I took physics and pre-calculus. I excelled greatly in these areas. I loved the rigor that they entailed but also I found them to be very interesting. After a few jobs shadows and lots of research I knew that being an engineer was the best way that I could make change in the world. During my junior year I took a computer aided drafting class and worked with robots. After doing that, I have never thought about being anything but an engineer, I have always wanted to make change in the world, and as an engineer I will be given that opportunity. Ever since that class, I have been working with robots and CAD systems. I like playing with robots and making them do different things. This is something I am looking forward to doing on a greater scale as an engineer. Throughout my senior year, I have taken Advanced Placement computer science and calculus (along with many other AP classes). I like being pushed as a student because as an engineer I will be pushed with many difficult problems and knowing how to deal with that is something I will need to know how to do.
The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. I have always dreamed of becoming one of them. For realizing this dream, I started from China 's Jilin University and then joined The University of Manchester for BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering to take more advanced professional courses. In UoM, I managed to gain GPA of 4.0. Yet, my pursuit of the dream does not end there, since I plan to apply for M.S. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Carnegie Mellon University, where I can receive the best education among the world.
