The novel “Starstruck” is written by Kathy Hopkins, and is 216 pages in length. The publisher is Harper Collins Publishing and the date of publication was not listed in the novel. Cathy Hopkins started writing novels in 1987, and she wrote a number of 16 books that year. In the year 2000 she started to write teen novels.
My novel “Starstruck” is about a girl named Lia, dealing with her hectic everyday life.
In this book Lia get’s asked out by Squidge (one of her friends) and she says yes. Finally they are boyfriend and girlfriend. Cat and Becca (other friends) are very happy for their friends and everything is going great. Then everything changes because the town finds out that the will be a host city for a movie being made about teenage life. Savannah, the teenage star of the movie adopts Squidge as her personal runner. Will he be able to keep Savannah happy without breaking his promise to Lia?
Lia is a tall slender young woman whom all the boy’s are crazy for. She has long blonde hair, blue eyes, and has the perfect complexion. Lia is honest because “ she had never told a lie in her life, say’s Becca”. She is also very determined because she never gives up and fights for what she believes in. “ I just do think that it is fair that we should have to go to school while the movie is being shoot Mr. Jenks, it is a very exciting event probably the most exciting this city has seen for years.”
Savannah is on of the minor characters of this story. She is a beautiful teenage girl who is a super star. There is not much more about Savannah except that she is snobby and thinks that she can get whatever she wants whenever she wants. “…..go get me a drink Squidge, I’m thirsty, and do it now before I fire you!”.
Squidge is another one of the minor characters of my novel. He is an aspiring film director who is very confident. He can be shy at times when situations become overwhelming. “ now if everybody does not co-operate this movie won’t be made so Squidge STOP moving the camera and get back to work!”.
At the beginning of the story the setting is at Lia’s house, but as the story progresses the setting changes. For the rest of the story the setting is at the main high school in Cornwall.
I learned about the diverse cultures present in today’s society. It is very easy to ignore the beliefs that do not perfectly align with our own. This book addresses that issue very well. I would not blame anyone for Lia’s tragedy. I believe that she was just a victim of her circumstances. Although it could have been handled in a better fashion, it is not anyone’s fault that there were language and cultural barriers. Anne Fadiman seemed unbiased and probably feels the same way about this
My second character is Laurence Teft, a shy, scrawny defiant fourteen-year-old boy. Teft is overwhelmed by his parents high standards for him that he seems to almost always fail to meet. He feels as though he is always disappointing his parents and becomes very angry, then he expresses his frustration violently. He is starved for attention, even if it is negative attention, and breaks the rules to get it, his criminal behavior ends up helping the bedwetters in their scheme.
I. Sharon Creech experienced many journeys as a child, triggering a spark in her writing career.
The Vietnam War caused great destruction in Laos, and so the Lee family migrated to America, after spending a short time in refugee camps in Thailand. After settling in America, Foua gives birth to Lia, who unbeknownst to them will suffer from epilepsy soon after she is born. For four years, little Lia is admitted to hospital seventeen times, after suffering both grand and petit mal seizures. Through miscommunication and a failure to understand each other’s cultural differences, both the parents of Lia, and her American doctors, are ultimately at fault for Lia’s tragic fate, when she is left in a vegetative state.
The characters are impacted by the setting sharply because it both closes and opens possibilities as the story moves forward. At first, the setting is in Sylvan, South Carolina. The author describes Sylvan simply by stating, “…population 3,100. Peach stands and Baptist churches, that sums it up.” Clearly the setting here is not exactly note-worthy; however, quite a few events happen. Lily, the main character, lives with her father T-Ray and her opportunities are
4)The setting is in Ohio in the present times. The story takes place at Melody’s school and her house.
The Novum presented in Starship Troopers is the rule of the Veterans and the resulting primacy of the military. This Novum sets the novel up as a utopic pandering to a readership demographic that the author himself is a member of. This is a normative sci-fi construction. Starship Troopers deviates in that the true target readership is the young man who has not yet been given a chance to join up. He is meant to gain a favorable understanding of the military man by sharing in his dream. The dream then - the world created – is the persuasive device.
The most prominent settings used throughout the entirety of the novel are Berlin and Auschwitz. In these settings, the active transition from one house to the other and the locations of which the houses are positioned in. The next setting is the fence, as the fence is situated on the border of the camp to divide both sides, from Jew and German. Due to the current relations of the Germans and Jews at the time. Along with the hole or opening under the fence, exhibiting a penitential connection to occur between both sides. And finally the third settings are the gradua...
The setting of the book takes place in Gloucester, Massachusetts. And in the grand banks of the atlantic ocean and on the boat of the Andrea Gail. I put a picture of the town of Gloucester and their harbor which represents their home and their last time on land before the crew died. The Andrea Gail was the only boat that got caught in one of the roughest storms in history and was not found until years later. The map of the three grand banks shows the spots where the Sword fishermen would go to catch fish and spend their time out at sea.The Crow’s Nest bar is the second home of the crew and would be forever empty without the presence of the crew on the Andrea Gail even when the bar is full it’s still empty.
...hem, Hugo seems delighted by the idea. And so through Sara’s education and self-improvement, she finds real love, love that is not only right for her but also her family.
The main character in this story is Cassie Logan. She and her three brothers go through an extremely tough time in this story. They go through everything from racist driven petty things to the death of a friend. Cassie's age contributes a lot to this story. Since Cassie is about 10 years old she doesn't fully understand everything that happens and why they happen. This book is written in first person so the reader knows her thoughts and feelings, but not everyone else's. This provides a better grasp on Cassie's inner conflicts.
The story is set in France, in the Jardins Publiques. The setting is important because it further illustrates how Miss Brill is out of place in her society. She is a foreigner in a strange land.
Setting - Identify the physical (when/where) settings of the book. How do these settings affect the moods or emotions of the characters?
The setting for most of the story would have to be Camp Green lake which is actually a juvenile correctional facility(page 4). So there is really not another setting besides from Stanley house(page 4). Were his father is trying to make recycled sneakers or shoes(page 4).Then it could also be the party at the end of the story on so the place where the party was held (page 102).
The stories setting takes place in Western Colorado. In Western Colorado in a home of a retired nurse named Annie is where the whole story takes place. Annie's home is a two story log cabin out in the middle of nowhere. The closest neighbors are miles away. It takes place in the middle of winter snow storms.
