I chose Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. It is one of his well known paintings and one of my favorites that he has made. This painting has been pariodied and referenced in many shows and throughout our recent culture. I think with our culture of sharing images online and being able to see everything with a touch of a mouse makes this painting more widely known to a younger audience.
Starry Night has been pariodied and referenced in many shows. One of my favorite reference is in Doctor Who's episode "Vincent and the Doctor" where the time traveling the Doctor visits Van Gogh. The image of the exploding Tardis, second picture next to the Starry Night, is heavily influenced by Vincent's work and shares similarities in the swirls. Also the color pallet is very similar. Starry Night has been referenced in other shows too. In the film "Coraline" the ghost children can be seen floating in the Starry Night sky. They will be able to see this work of art and become known in their thoughts. While the original painting will never lose its value, it can become even more appreciated by the reproduction and copies. While there may be plenty of parodies there will only be one true Starry Night. This makes the original more valuable and can be more appreciated. With the image itself being shared with practically everyone the painting can become well known. It makes us as viewers able to see more art. Its like in the past how books were only able to be read by those with money, til the printing press came around and then an influx of those being able to read happened. Viewers can become more aware of famous works of art and be able to appreciate the classics more. While many parodies will get fame, we still know what they are in reference
