The Starry Night
Famous Paintings or advertisements can symbolize many different emotions and can make an individual feel a specific way inside. There are visual elements such as lines, colors, sizes, and text that may draw a viewer’s eyes to look at a certain spot on the image right away. The famous image of The Starry Night, by Vincent van Gogh’s, is a great example of how visual elements can make a person feel a certain way.
Pathos, which deals with emotions of the viewer, is used in this wonderful painting. The specific color scheme used in this particular painting, depending on the individual viewing it could put off a dark, relaxing, or peaceful feeling. The Starry Night, to me, has a dark sense of state, but yet the couple touches of light blue and yellow bring out a peaceful and tranquil feeling into the image. This painting was designed with no words, people, or animals. Without people being displayed, it puts of a sense of calmness, loneliness, and peacefulness throughout a small city located with a breathtaking view.
This specific image made me feel as if I was stranded in a small town alone with no light. When looking at the picture, I could see if I lost and feeling scared walking through the dark city, and not knowing exactly how to get out of there or where to go. I could myself getting swept off my feet by strong gust of wind blowing through the town.
When looking at the Starry Night, the first thing that caught my eye was the stunning night sky, which is the background of the painting. The sky is swirling around making it seems as though everything is going to be picked right up off of the ground and blown across the small city. The bush is swaying back and forth making a flowing motion all the way to the top of the painting. The mountains seem to have some type of grass or weeds blowing softly within the wind
The image The Starry Night is a wonderful painting that expresses a lot of feelings of an artist. The artist may have been in a depressed state or even in a peaceful state, depending on the viewer one may feel or think a different way about the artist. This piece expresses peacefulness but yet a dark state. The Starry Night is a magnificent painting, and an individual can feel the dark sense of state that artist was trying to express when producing this painting.
