Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
On this essay the main difficult I had was failure to discuss one topic statement in one paragraph. On each paragraphs there were a mix up idea that it was difficult for a reader to fully understand the main message on each paragraph. The other difficulty I had was using a proper punctuation. I have tried to address those issues with reading English punctuation resources and also from a wonderful feedback I got from my professor. Furthermore, during developing this essay, I have learned different steps of writing an organized essay. Starting from brain storming, writing a draft, proof reading and editing. In the second essay I used the writing process and the outcome was way better. So I learned that so things are there to be learned and that will benefit you in college. Also I learned to be responsible when it comes to grades, turn in assignments due in class, and many other things. I learned this lesson because one day I didn’t turned in an assignment on time and the teacher said that it was a 0 for the day. In high school some teacher, like Ms. Perez, give the students the chance to turn in work the next day, but at that time I realized I was not in high school. So I got my schedule of homework on point and I decided to turn in all my college work on time. Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
Multiple essays have been formulated during the duration of Composition 1. These essays have taught me an important lesson about my writing, failure is acceptable in order to grow. On the other hand, I made an important discovery last year that I want to study journalism and advance further in that field after college. From taking journalism classes, to blogging in my spare time, to always getting an A on my papers, I thought I had no room to improve. I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”.
Howard Shultz and the senior management at Starbucks have to decide how to react to the opportunities that are being made available because of their rapid growth. The decision for a strategic growth plan has to be made in the near future. This will prove to be key for Starbucks reaching their long-term goal of becoming the most recognized and respected brand of coffee in the world.
I was never a person that liked to write essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays and specially because I was learning new things while writing them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are not to wait till the last three or four days before I turn my essay in to start doing it. Another thing I will do is if I forget how to do something or about some rule in the common errors I made I will just go back to all the lessons I printed out to have as reference. I think those will help me allot. And one last thing I will do to improve my writing is to try my best not to confuse all those words I got confused. Preliminary Starbucks – one of the fastest growing companies in the US and in the world - has built its position on the market by connecting with its customers, and creating a “third place” beside home and work, where people can relax and enjoy themselves. It was the motto of Starbucks’ owner Howard Schultz and, mostly thanks to his philosophy, the company has become the biggest coffee drink retailer in the world. However, within the new customer satisfaction report, there are shown some concerns, that the company has lost the connection with customers and it must be taken some steps to help Starbucks to go back on the right path regarding customer satisfaction. I will briefly summarize and examine issues facing Starbucks. Starting from there, I will pick the most important issue and study it from different positions.
A California family were in for a shock when they returned home with drinks from Starbucks. The parents knew something wasn't right when they saw a red smudge on the cup after noticing a “strong metallic smell.” KTLA reports Amanda, her husband, Louis Vice, and his mother, Rhonda Agles, bought drinks from Starbucks in San Bernardino. The odd smell led them to take a closer look at their drinks. Their panic set in when they inspected the cup their 2-year-old daughter was eating whipped cream from.
Our first essay we wrote was an Ad Analysis essay. It was a five paragraph essay about how effective an ad, of your choice, was. I chose a full page Snickers ad. Before we did the Ad Analysis essay I had only written two essays. So the whole idea of writing essays was completely new to me. At first, I was betting that I would not make any higher than a C on it. But, as I learned how to write it, I slowly started feeling better and better about it. I eventually made an 88 on the essay. From the essay I learned that I struggled significantly with transitions and commas. It helped me grow as a writer by teaching my how to writer by teaching my how to write an Ad Analysis correctly.
One of the main problems that Starbucks is facing at the present time is the ability to maintain national competitive advantage (Monash South Africa, 2014). Due to their local demand conditions, Starbucks tries to satisfy all customers by trying “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time” (Starbucks Corporation, 2014). Local demand conditons consist of a company trying satisfy needs of their closest customers and expanding their competitive advantage by upgrading their strategic management policies (Monash South Africa, 2014).
I still had the typical grammatical errors and sentence fragments, but there were not as many. I could see my writing skills were improving based on me actually taking the instructors corrections and advice into consideration. I used to struggle to start with my essays as I was not clear what the question was and I was always scared to ask the teacher. Now I make sure I clearly understand the material. I lost a bunch of marks because I did not do what the essay was asking me to. Knowing what is expected to be get the job done correctly helps me to get a good grade. I will also make sure that ones I get my essay back I will learn from my mistakes and not repeat then in the next essay that is due.
