Star Crossed Painting. The song Star Crossed is about two people who love one another very dearly however they aren’t supposed to be together because of fate. Star crossed lovers are two people who are destined to fail such as Romeo and Juliet. The artist of this song is Scary Kids Scaring Kids. While the name of the band may defer some people from listening to this song because the lyrics don’t match the name when they’re talking about love. In the beginning of the song he says, “I say if the futures been drawn out, there’s no point in living,” meaning if the path has been paved for a person and they come across a less traveled path would one keep traveling down the same path or go down the one less traveled. In this case, going after the
someone that one feels love for even though the powers of the universe work together against the relationship. One part of the song says, “If the stars say that you couldn’t love me, are you telling me that you would listen?” This line means that even if the world is set where she’s not supposed to love him, would the listen to the world or make her own path. He’s asking her if the stars tell her that she can’t love him, will she listen to them or her feelings, he says he will forgive her if she chooses to listen to the ‘stars’. To change Star Crossed into a different medium I changed it to a painting of a galaxy or a starry night that has two different hills with a small gap in between them representing that the stars trying to keep the couple in the song apart. I used lighter colors not only to see the silhouettes better but, to exaggerate the perception of the love and how the stars are controlling the couple and the way they go. They’re silhouettes of the couple one sitting on each hill. I colored the hills a dark green with heavy black shadowing to show there is a wedge between the two, the green fades into a lighter color representing there’s still a light of hope. Between the two hills is a heart that is split into two, not torn or ridged just smooth edges because the couple is in love but cannot be together. The couple knows that they’re set up for failure but the guy is trying to convinced the girl that they should try because their love is strong enough that it can break through and work great.
McMahon’s “Inside Your Teenager’s Scary Brain” discusses how adolescent’s brains are delicate and can easily affect their development in a good or bad way, depending on the individual’s experiences. According to Jensen, a Harvard neuroscientist and senior neurologist at two Boston hospitals, “teenage years comprise one of the brain’s most critical periods of development”. She parallels her experiences with her own children with observations of teens in general. With new research continuing to surface, studies illustrate how susceptible juvenile’s brain are and how this could generate different techniques on how society, parents, and teachers handle them.
Halloween is the time of year that most people loved the idea of being scared beyond belief. But nowadays it’s harder to be genuinely scared because it seems like some people have become accustomed to most horrifying things that relate to Halloween due to the fact that it is the same every year. Nonetheless every year amusement parks use Halloween as a marketing scheme to get people and their friends to come to their horror nights, and spend money on ridiculous overpriced items, which all present the same things; clowns, clowns, chainsaws, and more clowns. Yes we can all agree that clowns are scary, but there has to come a time where the ones coming up with these “horror nights” step back and realize that what they are doing is no longer working anymore. But alas there is someone out there who knows what they’re doing, and it quite possibly could have to do with the fact that they are connected to the movie studio that did invent the horror film genre. But what makes Universal Studios Halloween Horror night so sinister? Universal Studios has a way where they take you out of reality and place you in a horror movie where you encounter many horror mazes, and also by the way they attack your senses in unexpected ways.
Predetermined destiny writes out our stories before we experience them and is essential to Romeo and Juliet. The star-cross’d lovers gig basically fueled the whole love-filled dramatic play. Although, Romeo and Juliet both learn this, the hard way, costing their lives, as their love was fated to end in death, unfortunately. In the prologue, lines 6-11 state, “A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life; Whose misadventures piteous overthrows, Do with their death bury their parents’ strife. The fearful passage of their parents’ rage, Which but their children’s end naught could remove” (Beers 807). Due to these lines 6-11, it proves that Romeo and Juliet’s destiny was already written previously in the stars above, and the pair of lovers could do nothing but face it, together, hand in hand, with all that they had left.
To say a couple is star-crossed means that their relationship will not last and is cursed to not work out. However, this couple may have intense feelings for each other, but not be destined to be together. It is called star cross because people who believe in astrology think the stars control human feelings. That is of course an opinion and why Shakespeare wrote that Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers.
The recent media obsession with the scared straight program, juvenile boot camps and other scare tactics has lead to the question as to whether they actually are beneficial or not in treating adolescent criminal recidivism. On television programs like Maury (Pauvich) the answer to treating the troubled young girls who are brought to the show is boot camp. Those in charge take these girls to prisons, dangerous streets at night and often morgues to make a visual argument as to where they will end up as a result of the path they've taken. They also go through a rigorous run with drill sergeants to break down their egos. Of course it only last one day as opposed to any length of time a judge would sentence, but they get a small taste of it. Without surprise, at the end of every program of this nature, all the girls are rehabilitated and promise to go back to school, quit drugs, stealing, prostituting, and stop the abusive behavior.
Society these days builds up a misconception towards what they think is the real meaning of true love or teenage infatuation. In my words, true love is a strong and ever-lasting love which requires sacrifice based on solemn decisions. While, teenage infatuation is teenagers making irresponsible choices made foolishly without the consideration of the consequences they might face. Therefore, in this instance Romeo and Juliet is a play that can define a great example of either true love or teenage infatuation. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare a miraculous writer that foreshadows horrific events, foreshadows the suffering of the “star-cross’d
Growing up in Colorado, I knew that my family originated from New Mexico but I had not realized the extent of my ancestor’s impact, on my mother’s side, on the development of the state of New Mexico. I remember as a little girl going to my grandparents’ house in Tucumcari, New Mexico and always wondering how they ended up in such a small town but never asked. As I got older I got more curious and therefore I started asking more questions, I then found out that my grandfathers’ family had lived in Tucumcari for a long time and my grandmothers’ family was originally from Silver City. My grandparents met at New Mexico State University and moved back to Tucumcari to help my great-grandparents with the family ranch after my grandfather finished college and they just never
Frost conveys this theme with symbolism. The symbolism is not the physical paths the man must choose to take but the metaphorical one he needs to choose which way he wants his life to go down the same safe path he has been on the majority of his life or the unknown one in which he may experience great things or torment. This reminds me of Proverbs 14:12 (The Message) There is a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again - it leads straight to hell.
The poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost addresses the idea of decision-making and choosing what direction life will take you. The poem is about the speaker arriving at a fork in the road, where both paths are carpeted with leaves. The persona, who is believed to be Frost himself, chooses to take the road less traveled by. He tells himself that he will take the other road another day, although he knows it is unlikely that he will have the opportunity to do so. The poem concludes with the speaker satisfied by his choice in taking the road less traveled by.
When you’re with your friends, one fun way to pass time is to watch a movie. But you probably have a long debate about which type of movies you want to watch. Some like romance some like comedy and others like horror movies. Horror movies are the latest trend amongst teenagers. Every while a horror movie is released in the theatres and they all make big hits, grossing a lot of money. Some people just cannot seem to get enough of violent, disgusting movies. They crave these movies like they crave food. In the past, horror movies were usually avoided, but today they are one of the most popular types of movies watched. This weird portent is accompanied by a really gruesome and sad phenomenon. Throughout history, the number of horror movies released increased, so did the number of real life crimes. But these crimes are abnormal in the way that they are mimicking the horror movies. We all heard the stories of the boys who tried to be like Chucky, horrifically killing a two year old, or the teenagers that brutally murdered a woman in an attempt to mimic Ghostface from the hit horror movie franchise Scream. As a result of these shocking murders, a lot of controversy and debates emerged discussing the role that horror movies played in the execution murders. Some blamed the movies and others said they had nothing to do with it. That said, one question has been the center of this problematic dilemma; Do horror movies create psychopaths, or do they rather push someone with inherent psychotic traits to commit a murder?
First of all, the type of love that is expressed in “Bright Star” differs from the type of love that is illustrated in “A Lane in Luxembourg.” The romantic period is the quest after the ideal. This quest either ends in a failure to achieve the ideal at all or the achievement of the ideal but only for a moment. In “Bright Star,” the narrator is actually is experiencing his ideal love, while the narrator of “A Lane in Luxembourg” never attain his ideal. The narrator of “A Lane in Luxembourg is only observing
Then later he questions himself what is love, then he wants a kiss. This poem is a comparison to my topic and in many different ways, such as expressing the main characters love to the girl that he loves. One comparison is in line 2 and this is really saying that the girl that he loves has a true love coming for her and that the true love is him. Another example that the poem compares to my topic about love is in line 5 when it says journeys end in lovers meeting. This can relate to love because love can be a person meeting up with someone for the first time and fall in love instantly. In line 5 “Journeys end in lovers meeting”, this can be when the character meets with his loved one in the journey he went through will end because once they meet with each other they will fall in love. The contrast in this poem is that love is between two people, who have a strong feeling with each other. In this case, it’s really just the guy who is saying that he's the true love, he's the one in love, and there's no evidence of what the girl wants or how she feels. This poem is written in literally because the poem is straightforward and understandable. But also the poem is positive because of the character and the one he loves not to get into
The poem titled “The Road Not Taken” is written by Robert Frost and is primarily about the decisions you make in life. Although the poet is writing about himself, considering a fork in the road, the theme of the poem is that you will always have tough choices in life but you can only do one at a time. In the poem, Robert Frost said that he doubts he will ever take that other road, and just like in real life when you make a decision you can’t always go back and change it. And you just live on wondering what that other road could have brought. The poem is implicitly expressing the poets regret and curiosity through the use of metaphor and imagery. What Robert Frost is trying to argue is that it is difficult for a person to be completely satisfied with the choices they make in life.
“And sorry I could not travel both,”(line two), and that is because once you have made a decision and act upon it, you no longer can go back and change that decision. It becomes a decision you will have to live with every day of your life. You might think one day you can go back and travel the other road, but you know that will not happen. As he says, “Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how the way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.” (Line 13-15) He couldn't have said it better, as human's we all have a tendency to look back and wonder what would have happened if I had made a different decision. If I had said no to that choice that sent me to jail, how would I be living right now? The outcome of that decision is the reason I am living the way I do today. Robert Frost understood how people always look back and say what if I made a different decision and walked the other road. Even if you're still happy with the outcome of the road you went through, you can't help but satisfy your curiosity of the other road and ask yourself, what was on the road that I didn't
Furthermore, the next stanza consists of the speaker continuing to reassure himself that he chose the correct path. However, if it is not the right path, he will have another chance to take the right road, “Oh, I kept the first for another day!” (13). In reality though, the speaker realizes that due to his age, he is not going to be afforded the opportunity to return to explore the other road. There is no turning back. The last two lines of the third stanza state, “Yet knowing how way leads on to way/ I doubted if I should ever come back” (14-15). The opportunity to take the other path will be
