The bad effects of lying

In my opinion, I think it is almost impossible for someone to get away with telling a lie. Yes, if you are smooth enough or sneaky enough you might be able to get away with it, but beware, karma will come \back on you. What is the meaning of that saying? For example, when Stacy lies to her boss about not attempting to steal the nice sweater she wanted to give to Dan. As the result, Stacy’s boss does not believe her and fires her immediately because of that. So when people say “Karma will come back on you” they mean “what goes around, comes around.” Now usually when someone lies to another person, they usually end up lying to themselves to convince themselves that the action that they just committed wasn’t wrong of them to do. He or she wants themselves …show more content…
When Stacie and Dan are talking, Stacie asks Dan to help her on her essay for history, of course, Dan asks how can he help and Stacie asks him to write it for her and Dan agrees and she thanks Dan and calls him a “Mother Teresa”. Dan also mentions to Stacie that he wants a white sweater that he sees at the store that Stacie works at. To make Dan happy, when the store is closing, Stacie grabs the white sweater and stuffs it inside of a box. Her boss sees Stacie moving boxes and offers to help her, but she declines it and continues on, but he refuses to take no for an answer. When Stacie’s boss lifts up the box and the white sweater falls out, Stacie tries to play it cool by saying “We should check the other boxes to make sure nothing else is in them.” Stacie’s boss demands an explanation and Stacie lies by saying she had nothing to do with the sweater ending up with the box, but he is very skeptical about her story and fires her instantly. A few days later, Stacie ends up at the principal’s office with her parents as her parents are informed about Stacie’s dishonesty on the history exam and her

In a handful of occasions such as in an interrogation it seems reasonable enough to lie to an individual in order for them to confess to a crime. A case law that shows this was Frazier v. Cupp in which according to Police Link, “ The case involved the interrogation of a homicide suspect who was falsely told that an accomplice had already implicated the suspect in the killing.” In the case of Frazier v. Cupp kept on getting integrated even after he asked to speak to a lawyer so as a result he ended up doing a written confession where he confessed about being part of the murder that was later used as evidence against him.

Lying makes things complicated in ways that it can help or not in your situation. In the movie, “The Hunger Games,” Katniss and her teammate Peeta pretend that they’re in love with each other so they would get more sponsors and possibly be the two people to win. After they find out that there could only be one winner, Katniss pulled out poisonous berries so both Peeta and her could eat them to trick the capitol on letting them both win and go home. The lie worked, and they were both pronounced to be the victors. In the story Scarlet Letter, lying was also going on to fit into society. The character Hester was pregnant while she was single; so society judged her for it. While this was happening the text revealed that Dimmesdale, the pastor, was actually the father of the baby, but due to the fact he was the “holy man” he couldn’t say it. Hester, trying to protect Dimmesdale from the judgment of the crowd, wouldn’t say who was the dad, she kept lying to the society so it wouldn’t hurt more people. Society can make us lie to fit in or outsmart each other to get ahead of
All people act differently when lying. American Psychology Association states, “An underlying problem is theoretical: There is no evidence that any pattern of physiological reaction is unique to deception” (para. 7). There is not set reaction to deception. One person could respond differently that another person. One person’s heart rate could increase while the others drops, and that would alter the results. Not everyone is going to react the same way. Everyone’s reaction to lying is different, no one will know who is lying and who is telling the

Sylvia Barret, a new teacher is starting her first day in room 304. She finds out that teaching isn’t all that she thought it would be. Her first friend is Bea a veteran teacher who helps Sylvia out by explaining how Calvin Coolidge high works. The writer takes all the craziness of a normal high school and embellishes them; for instance the school guidance counselor is always using big words and thinks all the students need help. And Mr. Mchabe the administrative assistant who is nosy about everything. The Janitor who is never available.
Using Kantian philosophy a lie is always immoral and wrong, no matter what the situation is. Kantian ethics establishes the idea that good will be based on the action itself rather than outcome or any inclination one may have to perform an act could be good will.

Can you remember the last time someone lied to you? Or how about the last time you lied to someone else? Did you ever stop and ask yourself why? There are so many different reasons that a person might lie. Maybe a lie about something to keep oneself out of trouble, or even a lie to impress other people. But either way there are always going to be serious consequences or effects of lying.
In certain circumstances and situations, I truly believe it is ok to lie. Initially, it is extremely beneficial to lie, rather than hurt the feelings of a loved one. Equally important, if you are trying to protect someone from getting impaired, it is okay to lie in order to keep them safe. Last but not least, exaggerations can help boost people’s self-esteem by making them exceptional. William Blake once said “A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent.” I urge you to question if honesty is really the best route, or is it okay to lie sometimes.
