One Valentine's Day, in a classroom, kids were exchanging cards. Two of them, named Ted and Jim, were best friends. After the exchange, they showed each other the cards that they got from people. They both received a strange card with no writing on it. As they showed each other these cards, there was suddenly a blinding light coming from the cards, and the next thing they knew, they were standing in a dark, quiet room instead of their noisy 4th grade classroom. They were both too shocked at what had just happened to scream. Ted spotted a stairway leading out of the room, and told Jim to follow it. As they reached the top, they bumped into a man who was walking by. They apologized, and told the man their names. He said that his name was Valentine. Ted and Jim realized at the same time that it was St. Valentine. Ted asked him what he did to become a saint. He looked at them like they were crazy, and told them that he wasn't a saint. Jim whispered to Ted that he wouldn't know if he was a saint in the future. Jim then asked St. Valentine if he did anything really nice for other people. ...
The 5th of May is not Mexican Independence Day, but it should be! And Cinco de Mayo is not an American holiday, but it should be. Mexico declared its independence from mother Spain on midnight, the 15th of September, 1810. And it took 11 years before the first Spanish soldiers were told and forced to leave Mexico.
St Patrick’s day and St Valentine’s day differ in many ways. Valentine’s day is a day where we celebrate love and romance where all the couples get together and do things that symbol love. St Patrick’s day is a day where the irish people get together and celebrate good luck and to find the lucky pot of gold. Together these holidays differ in food , history, and different holiday activities.
Nashe justifies the appropriateness of ‘The Choise of Valentines’ by claiming the text’s truthfulness, and therefore bears out Sidney’s claim that literature should teach, as Nashe uses the text of convey his own moral ideology. ‘The Choise of Valentines’ is therefore a poem which presents authentic literature, allowing for the argument that ‘poetry conveys the truth of moral philosophy’. As Guy-Bray explains, Nashe celebrates and stresses his reason for writing ‘Choise’ as a move against depending on structures from other literary traditions, as this ‘leads to a literature that is unauthentic.’ While much of Renaissance literature focused on tradition and copies, Nashe focused on the presentation of truths through plain speaking language.
The 1920's were a time of Prohibition, Illegal Gambling, and Prostitution. The 18th amendment made the sale and distribution of alcohol illegal. Many people including Al Capone were involved in those illegal activities. Al Capone was notorious for this illegal activity. He got rich by manufacturing and distributing alcohol. He also owned many illegal bars. Many other gangs were doing the same illegal activity. There was competition over the alcohol. Every gang wanted it since that was how they made their money. In order to make money they had to eliminate the opposing gangs to decrease the competition. Al Capone never did any of the killings. He had his gang members do the killing. They would usually rent a room in front of the victim's house to stay hidden. Then they would wait for the victim to come outside. Then the gang members would shoot the person. Another way is they would do a drive-by and has someone in the car blast the victim with an Uzi or Thompson machine gun.
Scared of the dead? You shouldn’t be. Did you know throughout Mexico they celebrate the day of the dead? They call it Dia De Los Muertos. On This holiday, they celebrate the passing of their loved ones. In United States, on October 31 we celebrate Halloween, this day we dress up on our most scariest costume, trick-or-treat for candies, and scare others just for the fun of it. They say it’s the day where the dead rise, maybe that’s why most people are afraid of this day.
In the roaring twenties, the life of organized crimes was at its peak. What was the greatest mob hit ever pulled off in history? Well I'll tell you. It all happened on Valentines Day, the morning of February 14th, 1929. This incident was call, "The St. Valentines Day Massacre". The man behind this infamous crime was none other than, the infamous Al "Scarface" Capone. Al Capone was the all time greatest mobster of all time. The idea of organized crime fascinates me in so many ways. Capone was the only person to have pulled off such a crime. Al Capone was top gangster in Chicago and was one of the greatest members of the Italian Mafia and George "Bugs" Moran was the leader of the Irish/German mafia and he was the main target behind this hit. He targeted Capone because Al Capones had a bounty on his head, $60,000,000, and found George Moran as a threat. George was Capone's biggest threat of all. He needed to take him out quickly. (Al Capone, True Crime Story). Writing this paper will let me learn a lot more about this massacre. There is one question I would like answered, "Why hadn't Moran's crew made an attempt to fight back?" (Al Capone, True Crime Story). Moran's men had a long history of being violent with others. This is one question that we will never know. My most used source on this essay will be internet information and a book. I feel these sources will give me the most amount of information. Using a magazine will too but it was very hard to find a 20's magazine article.
What do you think of when you hear the words Valentine's Day? Probably love, hearts,
I stepped out of the chilly November air and into the warmth of my home. The first snowfall of the year had hit early in the morning, and the soft, powdery snow provided entertainment for hours. As I laid my furry mittens and warm hat on the bench to dry, I was immediately greeted with the rich scent of sweet apple pie, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and the twenty-pound turkey my mother was preparing for our Thanksgiving feast.
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
This old/new bus continued our route, and we all sat quietly, awaiting our stops. Everyone had a tired, almost forlorn look, as though they had been through much more than just switching buses. I did not have any concept of time as the bus chugged along, stopping occasionally to let people off, and all of a sudden I recognized that it was almost to my stop. I jerked out of the stupor I was in as the bus stopped in front of my apartment complex. As I gathered up my things to leave, I looked at my friends and said, "Well, this will make one interesting story at school tomorrow!"
Two years ago my father came up from Georgia for Thanksgiving, and we all stayed at my Grandmother’s house. Most of our close family was coming to my grandmother’s house for dinner, with that being said, we had a lot of food to cook. We are halfway through cooking/baking food for Thanksgiving, which was the next day, and the oven broke. I thought it was the funniest thing I have ever seen, but my grandmother was mortified. So we start surfing the web looking for a store that was open and sold ovens. We finally found a Lowes that was open, and when we got there they had one stove/oven that would fit in my grandmother’s house. We then asked the worker that we would buy that one, but he said that someone already was on the phone with the store
The dark, black sky was covered with a million bright shining stars. The moon shimmered above a small town in the suburbs of London. The gentle wind swept past the bare trees and danced with the leaves below it, creating a colourful array of orange, yellow, red and brown. Across the street, a light was on in a small house where a tall, dark haired woman stood, talking to her two children Nicola and Erin. While she was tucking them in Erin asked, “Mummy, will you tell us a story please?” “I’m sorry but its time to go to sleep now,” she said. “Please mummy,” begged Nicola “Okay but only one story,” she replied “This story is about how I got lost when I was a young girl and how I met an incredible man. It all began when…”

Graduation was the most important day in my life. I waited for this amazing day for twelve years to reach my dream and move on to college. For most people, graduation is a memorable day. It is hard for me to forget it even after a hundred years. The day I woke up realizing it was my graduation day, I was smiling all day long knowing that I had made my family proud of me. I remember everything about my graduation day: my party, cake, dress, makeup, hair, cap and gown, and the gifts I got from family and friends.
