My first memory of being a Catholic is praying before bed. One night, when I was about two years old, my mom said “I pray for Grandma and Grandpa. Who do you pray for, Jenna?” I thought long and hard, thinking of all the people I knew and loved. When I thought of a flawless response, I replied “God bwess the cookies cuz me really likes them.” Ever since that night I’ve realized how essential it is to be faithful and listen to God. When I listen to God, I hear him directing me to my vocation. I believe my calling is to be a doctor and help others as best as I can. I feel that attending Saint Ursula Academy would provide me with a strong educational platform to prepare me for college and fulfill my vocation. Being a doctor requires a great amount
of courage because doctors have to be able to tell their patient the truth, even if it’s bad news. At St. Ursula I’d be prepared to accept God’s plan and do his will. By going to Saint Ursula, I would also learn how to understand my calling and how to better tune into the voice God gave me. Every day I look for opportunities to listen to God and use my voice. Sometimes it’s as small as telling my friends not to gossip or as big as telling my teacher I saw someone cheating. In conclusion, because I am able and willing to stick up for my beliefs I’m a very hard-working, faithful, and determined person. Additionally, I am a natural leader. At St. Ursula Academy, I hope to better expand my education. I would also like to be prepared to take my Christian beliefs into the real world.
Before she attended Holy Trinity, Yasmeen attended Sacred Heart School in Merrick. She worked diligently throughout Middle School, and earned the Knights of Columbus Leadership award. There are several reasons why I would like to attend the Woodbridge Academy. Academically, a spectacular learning environment makes a superb school. Some examples of a great learning environment are class sizes being smaller, there is amazing collaboration between the students and faculty, and the school counselors will always be determined and will lead the student in the right direction. Another reason, why I would like to join the academy is what the academy provides. The Woodbridge Academy is a school that provides Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences which is perfect because my future dream is to become a pediatrician and Woodbridge Academy can prepare me for career. Additionally, Woodbridge Academy has high standards for teaching which
Ana-Mauríne Lara’s Erzulie’s Skirt positions the female body as the scene where lives are interconnected across history and as a dissertation of the human condition. Her protagonists, Micaela and Miriam, tell a story of love, struggle, and survival that echoes the historical significance of slavery and the Caribbean middle passage across time and space. Divided into several sections based on time and location, one particular period in Lara’s novel connects Micaela and Miriam’s experiences most closely with slavery as a whole. After a voyage across the Mona Strait as an attempt to escape from the conditions in the Dominican Republic, they find themselves captured, trapped in a brothel, and forced into prostitution. Many parallels can be drawn to interpret Lara’s use of the brothel as a metaphor for the slave ships used to travel across the original Middle Passage, including the comparable use of people as commodities, the specific imagery and language Lara uses, the historical narrative presented at the beginning of each section, and the larger themes in which identities were simultaneously stripped by oppression and also preserved within the context of community and spirituality.

According to what I read in the textbook, the CMS 1500 form is divided in two considerable parts: 1- Patient and Insured Information, which you can find in locators 1 through 13; and 2- Physician or Supplier Information, which you can find in locators 14 through 33. But this form can be divided in three sections as well: 1-Demography (from locators 1 through 13), 2- Procedural and diagnostic information (from locators 14 through 24) and 3- The technical part (from locators 25 through 33).
The capital of Washington is Olympia, thought that was not always its name. In fact, for four years between the founding of Olympia, 1846, and 1850, Olympia was called Smithster, named after two people named Smith and Sylvester who were early inhabitants of Olympia. The name was changed because of the scenic Olympic Mountains creating a nice view north of the city. In 1853, Isaac Stevens appeared as Washington's first territorial governor. Isaac seemed to be a very bright man, and very able. He was first in his class in graduation, and he proved himself to be hardworking and able to handle many tasks given to him at the same time. Truly a first governor to be proud of, even if he was a little short. The current capitol building of Olympia did not appear until 1928, but the one before it was built from 1880 to 1882 and served as the town's courthouse until 1905, when it was made the Capitol building.
The community of New Orleans faces many issues both school related and not school related. Due to the fact that in 2005 Hurricane Katrina destroyed as much as 80% of the city. Many parts of the city were below sea level and much of which were only a few feet above sea level, were flooded with water as deep as 25 feet in some areas. This storm damaged or destroyed more than 100 of the school district's 128 school buildings. During this time school reform swept through the city, taking advantage of the damage and transforming the area into a testing ground for charter schools. The majority of students attending public schools in New Orleans now attend independent public charter schools - making New Orleans the only city in the nation where more than half of all public school children attend charter schools.
To Kill a Mockingbird, the novel by Harper Lee embodies a work of Southern literature, set in the 1930s in a small town in Alabama. The book’s genre exemplifies a coming-of-age historical fiction story. The narrator, a young girl named Scout Finch, describes the lessons she and her brother Jem learn when their father, a lawyer named Atticus, defends an African American man who stands accused of raping a white woman. The novel’s premise revolves around the efforts of a father raising his children and guiding them in their moral development. Along the way, the book deals with the themes of courage, prejudice and maturity. These three concepts are defined differently by Atticus than by most of the other people in the town where he lives. According to Atticus, courage means doing what remains as right and resisting what remains as wrong, even if other people oppose you. In contrast to the prejudice of the townspeople, Atticus believes it important to treat everyone equally. Maturity, in Atticus’ view, refers to having a sense of conscience and seeking to protect those who remain innocent. As these definitions show, Atticus Finch displays a strong sense of ethics. His goal as a parent remains to pass his values on to his children. This paper will argue that Scout and Jem learn the true meanings of courage, prejudice and maturity through the influence of their father and the example he sets for them.
There is no doubt that the particular layout of space of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition reflected the gender inequalities that existed within American society at the time. In particular, the Women’s Building offered a microcosm of the prejudices that dominated the overall landscape of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Although the men who organized the Columbian Exposition were unable to exclude women’s achievements altogether from the exposition, they were successful in relegating them into a bounded unit that overwhelmingly categorized their contributions as different and marginal, framing womanliness as “soft,” “delicate,” and “refined.” Discussions of the Women’s Building’s architectural aesthetics highlights such gendered dimensions of the Columbian Exposition quite clearly.
There are many different opinions about the differences between faith and reason. Traditionally viewed differences between reason and faith are that reason is something that requires empirical, factual evidence while faith relies merely on, well, faith. For something to have reason it must have some kind of factual evidence to make it true, or at least very good sound reasoning to believe that whatever it is, is factual. Faith is far from something that attains empirical evidence, faith usually relies on personal accounts which are usually of mystical content. Many philosophers have different opinions about how the two can coexist; some say under no circumstances at all, while others claim they can justify each other, and some claim faith is reason alone. Some philosophers claim that believing in God is an obvious choice by the claim that just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there like Blaise Pascal. Blasé Pascal and Clifford offer two completely different standpoints on the role of reason and faith.
The symbolism and imagery used in the short stories paints a vivid picture into the author’s train of thought. Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Shirley Jackson were not normal writers. The stories are a form of gothic writing. This paper will be analyzing the point of view, symbolism, and setting in the stories The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.
Throughout my first year in middle school I have really started taking great thought into my future. I have realized that I am getting closer to my adult life and that I need to start to plan for the type of future that I wish to have. As much as I enjoy team activities, I do think of myself as more of a leader and would like to go about planning my career in this way. I am determined to go about things at an advanced pace which is why I believe I should be part of the National Junior Honor Society.
I believe that I, Christine Kuykendall, am a good candidate for a spot in National Junior Honors Society. I hold all of the core values, I am an all A student, and I love helping in the community. I am also a very hard worker and I believe that I can do great things in National Junior Honors Society.
I was dragged to Catholic church every Sunday as a child. Despite the numerous temper-tantrums, I could not be more thankful for the efforts of my parents. After many Wednesday nights and a hefty amount of volunteer hours, I was confirmed in the Catholic Church. The
