Accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, begins the process of spiritual transformation. Taking on the spirit of Christ is a direct result of being obedient to the commandments given by God to the believer. The first element of the transformation phase, which is the process of change from the sinful nature of man, to accepting the spirit of Christ becoming a Christian renovating into Christ’s image. The transforming of one’s mind, heart and soul. While it is true the beginning stage starts in the mind. Spiritual formation does not only effect the believer’s intellect, it transforms the inner and outer life as well. Although the process may be initiated by an emotional mishap, which leaves an emptiness, a yearning for satisfaction. That can only be filled with the invitation of Christ.
The foregoing provisions are few of many elements associated with the process, steps or stages of spiritual transformation. Spiritual transformation have been given different titles, throughout the beginning of Christian history. For instance, Acts 2 speak of “The Day of Pentecost” when the Spirit of God descended upon the believers in Jerusalem.
Dallas Willard points out in his book Renovation of the Heart: Putting on the Character of Christ, “the Spirit of God now calls his people to live from an adequate basis for character transformation, resulting in obedience to and abundance in Christ. He goes on to say, “Spiritual formation is something we human beings can and must undertake- as individuals and in fellowship with other apprentices of Jesus.” As previously stated spiritual formation is not just for the inner man, Willard agrees it must show forth evidence of character transformation. He also indicate fellowship with other believers is also an aspect or element of spiritual formation. Willard positions his focus on understanding the human being as a “whole person” is key to understanding how “the six aspects of “human life,” which are controlled by the heart all work together and interplay make up “human
