Can living people talk to the dead? Yes, there are people in this world that are able to talk to people who have crossed over, they are known as mediums. I know this because of scientific evidence, physical evidence, and eyewitness accounts. The power to communicate with the dead is real. First of all, There are people in this world that can communicate to the dead,. It is called Spiritism. “Spiritism is the belief that the human personality continues to exist after death and can communicate with the living through the agency of a medium or psychic.” (“Spiritism”, 2017). There is a working teacher who shared her experience as being a medium through a book. Some things she encountered while being a medium was, “And then suddenly, as I was …show more content…
She told multiple encounters she had with the dead in this book. Here are some of the people who got read reactions, “Jane’s eyes filled with tears.”, “Jane got up, came around her desk and hugged me. 'Your gift is beautiful,' she said simply.”, “They looked at each other, and Maryann reached for a tissue.”, “Her mother began to cry, and for the first time that evening I did, too. I could feel incredible love passing between mother and daughter; it was one of the most powerful moments I'd ever experienced.” “ The girl burst into tears. I put my hand on her shoulder. My two worlds had collided, and there was nothing I could do about it. But in spite of everything, it felt good.” (Laura Jackson, 2015), these excerpts are from the book “The Light Between Us” by Laura Lynne Jackson. Mediums are people who are supposed to help people heal when their lost ones die. “ Three key superordinate themes emerged, Responsibility and Ethics, Passion to Help and Therapeutic Value.” ‘These themes are discussed in terms of mediums’ perception of their work as a helping profession and an ethical …show more content…
A ghost appeared and personally signed a paper in front of thirty people to prove that he is real and the medium wasn’t just making this up. 10% of people in the UK visit a medium and all of them have come out with their opinions of mediums being real. (Osborne, Gemma, Bacon, 2015). They claim that nobody could know that much about them, even if they looked them up on the internet. In my first source, a medium that was a teacher read the principal and one of her students. The principal's reaction was, “Jane got up, came around her desk and hugged me. 'Your gift is beautiful,' she said simply.” (Laura Jackson, 2015). The girl's reaction was her bursting into tears and hugging her teacher. This teacher has read plenty of people including celebrities, and they post about how great of a person she is and that her ability is real. All of these eye-witnesses have proved that mediums are
Alright. So I was telling you about that gym teacher I had who was a substitute teacher, and he always claimed that he… would get in the “zone” and be able to, like, see ghosts and stuff and communicate with them. He was at a Wawa one time, and he stepped outside and there was an old man out there, and he was like, “Excuse me, sir. . . I just need your help for a second.” He was like, “Yea, sure… whatta ya need?” And the old man was like, “Could you go into this store… and ya see that lady over there?” She’s like an elderly lady. “So could you like go over there and tell her that I love her?” And then he told him his name, ya know, whatever it was, and my gym teacher was like, “Yea, sure.”… So he went in there, and… he went up to the lady and he was like, “Hey, I had a message from John,” whatever the hell his name was, “And he wanted me to tell you that he loves you.” And she told him that John had been dead for a couple of years… He described what he looked like to her, and she was like, “Yea, that’s definitely John, and he’d definitely do something like that.” Umm, yea. So, I mean, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but, he told stories like that all the time.
In Susan Mitchell’s poem “The Dead”, the speaker describes the life of a dead person to show that those we lose aren’t truly gone. The poem starts out talking about what dead people do in their afterlife, starting to form a picture in the reader’s head. Towards the middle, she starts using personal connections and memories associated with what the dead are doing. This shows us that they will always be there to remind us of memories shared together. At the end of the poem, the reader shows us that she is talking about someone who has passed that was close to her in her childhood. Perhaps Mitchell wrote this trying to get over the loss of a loved one, showing that they will never be forgotten. The poem has a
The book, What’s So Super About the Supernatural tells of well known stories about poltergeists. A poltergeist is a noisy or high energy ghost who might perform violent activity. A young girl by the name of Tina Resch lived in Ohio and is known to be a poltergeist. “No ghost was ever seen or heard on camera; however when the camera was inadvertently left running, the tape showed Tina surreptitiously pulling over a lamp” (Gardner). The evidence was found after people were reporting the activity. Newspaper reporters went to the scene to check out the action only to find evidence of Tina throwing objects violently around the house. Another example of proof that ghosts exist goes back to a case involving a poltergeist in England. An eleven-year-old boy by the name of Matthew Manning performed several violent actions that his dad had noticed and reported. Gardner writes, “ On one occasion, Matthew’s bed was thrown about and left leaning at an angle against the wall” (Gardner). These examples are not the only reported cases regarding ghosts and paranormal activity. Many stories about the supernatural have been told and passed down for several generations. Spirits are even mentioned in well known religious books that have been passed down for hundreds of
Death comes to all in the end, shrouded in mystery, occasionally bringing with it pain, and while some may welcome its finality, others may fight it with every ounce of their strength. Humans have throughout the centuries created death rituals to bring them peace and healing after the death of a loved one.
In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, the ghost of Hamlet’s father is intended to be seen as a real ghost. Around 1600, when the play Hamlet was written, many people believed in mystical creatures like witches, monsters, and most importantly: ghosts. With so many people believing in these characters, it makes sense that Shakespeare portrays the ghost of Hamlet’s father as a real figure. Many examples support this, such as when the guards in Act I scene i see the ghost, which proves it’s not just in Hamlet’s imagination. But some people can not see the ghost, such as Hamlet’s mother in Act III scene iiiii. Hamlet sees the ghost but she can not. This could be used as evidence to say the ghost is not real though. Shakespeare shows us though this information, the high complications oh having ghosts in a story.
Paranormal activity better known as parapsychology is a non-fictional idea. Parapsychology is the scientific study of interactions between living organisms and their external environment that seem to transcend the known physical laws of nature. (Teresi, 2000) The Society of Psychical Research was established in London in 1882 (Teresi, 2000). Major parapsychological studies had not begun appearing in mainstream scientific journals until the sixties and early seventies (Teresi, 2000).“Furthermore, groups such as the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) which publishes the Skeptical Inquirer and the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) have been formed to disseminate credible information on the paranormal. Credibility should be less of a problem in the future” (Teresi, 2000).
Near Death Experiences is a controversial phenomenon that has been debated among researchers, physicians, and the general public. The debate is whether or not what people think they experience is real or if it can to be explained by science. There are twelve characteristics of these experiences that are frequently experienced across the board including out of body experiences which lead to the questions: Does the conscious require the brain, or is it a separate entity that can exist and function on its own? Is there really life after death? Skeptics will answer in the negative and offer many possible explanations, but I can find no good explanation that can account for many of the experiences people have during an NDE.
I, of course, knew my mother as a mother. As I have reached adulthood and become a mother myself, I have also known her as a friend. My mom shared much of herself with me, and I saw sides of my mother as she struggled with her cancer that I had never seen before, especially her strong belief in positive thinking and the importance of quality of life. I was privileged to know so many facets of my mother, but certainly I did not know all. There were parts of her life that I didn’t see, relationships that I didn’t know about. Last night, at the wake, so many stories were told to me about my mom’s strength, courage, humor, kindness, her quietness, her loyalty as a friend. It was so special to hear of these things that my mom said and did, to know some of these other parts of her life. I hope that her friends and family will continue to share these stories with me and with each other so we can continue to know and remember my mom.
During the last moments of my mother’s life she was surrounded by loved ones, as she slowly slipped away into the morning with grace and peace.
In the face of the universal fact of death, attitudes to the corpse are various and changeable. These attitudes are formed through the practices of treatment of the dead and are embodied in various ways (Parker Pearson 1999, p. 45).
While they start to differ when diving into the specifics of what happens after death, both groups subscribe to the idea of humans having this inner connection to divinity, one that transcends their physical form and extends provides the idea of life after death. Christianity generally believes that deserving people are able to ascend to Heaven after death, the closest a normal, good spirit can get to God and Jesus. This closeness to a creator God is also reflected in many African religions, as many regard spirits as “ontologically ‘nearer’ to God: not ethically, but in terms of communication with Him” (Eastman, 480). Although there is a bit more diversity (based on specific beliefs) as to what the spirit does after death in these African religions, one core concept is that these spirits have become the closest that they could to their major deity, now treated as an intermediary between the living and God. One could even argue that this sometimes occurs in Christianity, where people will also speak to a deceased friend or relative in prayer in order to deliver a message to
Liminality encompasses all aspects of life after death, including entrance into the realm of the dead or the return to earth. The Hindu death rituals serve to guarantee that loved ones reach the next world and do not return as malignant ghosts. Family members or friends of the deceased perform these ceremonies; therefore, the fate of the dead depends on the action of the living. Axel Michaels states, “When people die, they become ancestors, forefathers, heroes, ghosts or demons, but not dead, not without ‘life’. What they become depends on the…relationship between the deceased and the survivors” (131). The rituals begin even before death occurs; traditionally, such as lying the dying person on the floor, an oil lamp is placed near the head, family members join in prayer and song and the Brahman who performs the funeral rites receives a gift of a cow (133). All of these steps are taken to prepare the person to die, and give him or her chance to accept that death is approaching. By accepting the imminent, one is less likely to leave their body unwillingly and attempt to return to it once they have passed; thus preventing the deceased returning as a hungry ghost
It had been reported that, “Numerous people have told of hearing their doctors or other spectators in effect pronounce them dead” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. 17). This is an out of body experience. Each reported feelings of peace and quiet, which transitioned into a bad buzzing noise. After proceeding through a tunnel, they have an “encounter with a very bright light” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. 51). Questions resound around a reflection of their life, what they had learned during it, and if it was worth it. Invariably, each of the subjects’ encounter a border at which they are told they need to go back. “Considering the skepticism and lack of understanding that greet the attempt of a person to discuss his near-death experience, it is not surprising that almost everyone in this situation comes to feel that he is unique, that no one else has ever undergone what he has” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. 83). Naturally, the outcome of this experience has an effect on the lives of those experiencing it.
They are regarded asa great cloud of witnesses who watch the spectacle of life and times. More important, the dead are believed to be able to interfere in the affairs of the living. They can help a person, a family, or an entire nation if they wanted. They also believe the dead can communicate with the living from time to time. They feel the dead can provide a message within a dream with no interoperation. So, someone would have to go to a (diviner) are ritual specialists who have mastered a technique for reading signs that communicate the will of the divinities.
Death is a controversial topic that most people in society tend to avoid. Death is often difficult to talk about regarding people. People often tend to lean towards having insight and control on everything in this world. Death is one thing that people cannot have control over or do not completely understand. Death often results in sadness for friends and love ones who wont see that person anymore. Death in a sense is unclear to individuals sense there is no scientific proof to understand what happens when a person dies. There are various beliefs of what happens when a person dies, according to different cultures. Some have a stance as seeing death as termination from existence. Others have a stance on death as leaving one world and having a portal to another life. In a sense comparing these to beliefs death is either real or not real. Philosophically death would be examined through human reasoning. Personally, I believe that when you die physically your spirit man goes to either Heaven or Hell, depending on belief in Jesus. My stance is based on the Christian stance on how you will spend eternity in one place or another. Even though there is no evidence of what happens when you die, when you die you either go to heaven or hell because the Bible and Christian faith have a firm belief in this doctrine. An individual also has a spirit that is eternal.
