"In superheroes, the most important thing is to get a new power. And you run out of powers. A guy can fly, a guy is strong — what's left? I figured, if a guy can stick to walls like an insect. So I run down a list of names: Insect Man didn't have it, Mosquito Man wasn't dramatic... finally, I hit on Spider-Man. Spider-Man. Man, that sounded dramatic to me. When I proposed the name to Martin, my publisher... Now, he had been on board with everything, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk. He thought I could do no wrong. So I told him about Spider-Man, and he said, 'You're crazy, Stan. People hate spiders. You can't do a book called Spider Man. And you want him to be a teenager? Teenagers can only be sidekicks.”
You read that right. When Stan Lee first proposed Spider-Man, it was rejected. Spider-Man, one of the famous superheroes ever created, almost never saw the light of day. That’s crazy! Stan Lee’s Superhumans is a show that aired on the History Channel from 2010-2014. The show is about Stan and Daniel Browning Smith, aka “The Most Flexible Man in the World”, going to find people that can do extraordinary things. Some examples of this is Rene Richter, who is able to lift over 1000 pounds with his teeth, Aaron Evens, the highest jumper in the world, and Ron White, who claims that he can memorize and recall complex information quickly, even when distracted.
The wonderful thing about this show is the showcase of the “superhumans”. Prior to this show, these people were looked at as freaks. Let’s face it, someone that can memorize a ton of information a short time isn’t looked at as “Wow that’s so cool, he’s like a superhero!” But now that he’s been on the show, that’s how people see him/ Bringing new light to people that can do extraordinary things is another reason Stan Lee is a
