In my opinion, I strongly believe Ontario should not raise the current speed limit of, 100 km/h to 110 km/h on major highways. To begin with, speed limits are determined by how fast a driver can react to hazards and how fast they bring a car to a stop. By increasing the speed limit, drivers will have insufficient time to react to a hazard, resulting in less time for other users of the road to react to that vehicle. Drivers need ample time to react and hit the breaks when they need to. Moreover, many individuals believe the idea of a brake assist will help avoid collisions and accidents on the freeway, however most Ontarians have older cars that do not have modern technology found in most cars made today. Not all cars have a brake assist and
many individuals cannot afford it so if an older car were to collide with a vehicle with modern technology, it is more likely for those in the older car to face more fatalities in comparison to the older car. Furthermore, many believe longer distances travelled in shorter times will lead to a decrease in carbon monoxide being emitted, however, faster speeds can lead to an increase in nitrous oxide and greenhouse gas emissions being released which will affect the air we breathe. Ultimately, in the best interest of Ontarians and their health and safety, the current speed limit of 100 km/h should remain unchanged.
The municipal restructuring in Ontario from 1996 to 1999, whether voluntary or involuntary, was the most comprehensive process of municipal reforms since the Baldwin Act of 1849 (Frisken 30). After the election of Harris’ Conservative government in 1995, municipal reform took on a life of its own as it was followed with substantial activity between 1996 and 1999 (Sancton 135-56). This research paper looks to categorize, describe and evaluate the substantial activity that took place between the province and its municipal subordinates. While other papers have argued whether the change of the fiscal relationship was to benefit the province or if the structure of local government had simply become outdated, the issues of why the reforms occurred is not the focus of this research. However, what this paper will evaluate is whether the substantial activity made any long-term changes in the system by outlining the numerous reforms and examining their impact. This paper will begin by assessing the financial reform, which was the starting point for more extensive changes, followed by functional, structural and legislative reforms during 1996 to 1999.

The Trans Canada Highway became a visible nationalistic figure that set apart Canada from other countries. The Trans Canada Highway was a significant structure built in 1949 through 1961 that emerged as a result of a newfound unity and nationalistic view in Canada. Although there were many different political, personal and economical standpoints on the building of the highway, the finalization of the construction of the highway brought a unique unity that could be appreciated by all Canadians.

However, this is not the case for drivers on the famous highway systems in Germany. When you drive in Germany you can be“idiot” in the government’s eyes if you go too slowly, drive in the wrong lane or impede the flow of traffic. This distinction is not unique in Germany but is applicable on their federal highway system, aptly named the Autobahn. Rules regarding how anyone driving on the autobahn state that a driver must go a certain speed, or that driver becomes a public safety hazard, much like that of speeders in America. Many foreigners only hear how the autobahn has no speed limit and that is not necessarily true. There are in fact many areas that are speed limited and strictly enforced by the polizei and speed cameras integrated into the guard rail or surroundings. German drivers receive up to two years of very expensive and intensive training before driving within the country. In my opinion, I believe there should be an Autobahn-like system in America because it teaches future generations not only maturity, but also discipline and responsibility.

Impaired driving is a very significant problem within our society. Impaired driving is defined in Canada as operating a vehicle (including cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles and off-road vehicles) while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is recognized as a crime under the Criminal Code of Canada. Despite a sizeable drop in the impaired driving rate since the mid-1980s, impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal death in Canada. It is a major issue that is taken very lenient but is far more dangerous than people actually consider it to truly be. Driving under the influence does not only put the person operating the vehicle in potential danger and harm, but also has the potential to do harm towards innocent others. With this being said, the punishments regarding the accused’s conviction of crimes related to impaired driving should be far stricter than the current punishments in order to stop impaired driving within our flawed society. This stated, these are my following reasons as to why I believe that the punishments of impaired driving should be stricter.
These proposed laws will make driving any type of automobile a lot safer, which should be the ultimate goal of any driver getting behind the wheel. It impacts numerous children and their families throughout Delaware by increasing the risk that a child will get hit by a car. It also amplifies the likelihood that a child that does get hit will suffer a severe or fatal injury. Despite the innovative and effective speed-control methods that traffic engineers have created, speeding is still a problem since not enough neighborhoods have adopted the new speed-controlling solutions. In order to combat this deadly and widespread problem, more neighborhoods throughout Delaware should begin to utilize speed-control methods such as speed humps, speed cushions, and traffic circles.

Our neighborhoods need control of speed, too. Accidents not only happen on the highway, but also on residential streets, with the speed limits being 25 mph. Motorists are exceeding these limits as I speak. They would be unable to stop quickly enough for pedestrians, possibly swerving out of control and hitting a house or another car. My street has been monitored, by the city, due to this excessive speeding. The city of St. Clair Shores is trying to make the motorists aware of their speeding by posting a digital sign, which posts their current speed. Without a legal speed limit in residential areas, people would drive in excess of 25 mph all the time. We need this wild speeding controlled soon before something bad happens.
The high speed limits are often causes of accidents that cause serious injuries and even death. The speed limit should be lowered so we can control accidents caused by high speed driving, pollution, and the high cost of operation and insurance.
