Speech therapy is the treatment of speech, language, and communication disorders. There are many benefits for speech therapy with children who have autism. When people first hear speech therapy they may not think about children who have autism, but instead those who may be deaf or have a speech disorder which is not always the case. Children who have autism can also benefit from speech therapy by being able to build better relationships, help interact with other people, and be able to be a part of society. Some of the health benefits included; improved swallowing function, improved vocal quality, fluent speech, and intelligible speech. Not only are there health benefits from speech therapy sessions but, also social benefits. These included school readiness skills, greater self-esteem, being able to be more independent, and better quality of life. The main goal and the biggest benefit of speech therapy is to help improve the child’s communication. Improving communication is more than just helping the children learn how to speak but, help them find other ways to communicate with people through techniques such as, sign language. There are different techniques that are used for those who have autism because there are varying degrees. The speech therapist can mix and match some of the techniques such as; typing, singing songs, using flash cards with pictures and words. The techniques speech therapist use help verbal and non-verbal autistic people communicate. The therapy treatment also includes how many autistic children will start to develop conversational skills, use the correct words, and also how to respond to social situations. When attending speech therapy sessions children will start to improve on understanding social cues. Speech therapy may seem like it can promise more than it can actually give. The reason for this is not because of the therapy or the therapists, but more so whether the child is able to develop standard speech. Typically, when this happens speech therapists must find a different way for the child to communicate by using sign language. This can be difficult for some parents to cope with because many parents will make unrealistic expectations for their children. One of the drawbacks that many parents come across is that it’s very time consuming because its recommended for the parents to keep interacting with the children even outside of therapy sessions. The reason that many parents do not interact with their children is because they could be under stress, too busy, or the child is getting older and they don’t feel the need to keep practicing after a certain age. This can be resolved simply by the parents putting some time to the side to interact with their child and it does not have to be anything big, it could be simple things like just talking to them in the car about what they see. Another drawback that some parents and speech therapist come across is that some children do not want to participate. The reason that the children do not want to participate is because they want to do what they want to do. This could be a problem

Robert DeMayo is a Deaf actor, educator and ASL consultant. He was born in Connecticut but currently lives in Philadelphia. DeMayo grew up in a hearing family. It was hard for him growing up in a hearing family. He often felt like he was being left out by his family, who never bothered to learn ASL so that they could better communicate with him. This being the case DeMayo decided to leave his home since his family seemed like they did not care about how he felt being Deaf when the rest of his family could hear. DeMayo often struggles to make ends meat. Being a Deaf actor makes it even harder to find work while trying to pursue his dream. According to DeMayo there are not many jobs for Deaf actors that have flexible enough hours for him to also be an actor. He often had to take short term jobs like translating for other actors or musicians as they sang and performed. These jobs did not provide enough income and because he could not make enough money to support himself he eventually became homeless until one of his friends let him stay with them until he got back on his feet. These are just a few of the struggles DeMayo faced being a Deaf actor, TL Forsberg also faced many struggles as a hard of hearing singer.
There is a wide range of socially significant behaviors, from the most simple to the more complex, that an ABA therapy may help cultivate. Reading, communication, intellectual and adaptive living skills make up these socially significant behaviors. By learning and mastering these, children with ASD will be more independent and capable of dealing with the challenges presented by daily life.

When parents hear this for the first time, they will have many questions. “Is there anything I can do to help my child? If so, what can be done?” Early intervention services; such as applied behavior analysis therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration therapy, and speech therapy before the age of three; can help improve the development of children with autism spectrum disorder. Stuttering is a disorder of oral communication and it is characterized by disruptions in the production of speech sounds, also called "disfluencies" (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2014). It usually emerges in childhood and affects around 5% of the population (Guitar, 2006), even though there is some variation in the incidence of stuttering in different studies. During infancy, it is common for children to present dysfluency because of the complex process of language acquisition and development. These disfluencies are normal and tend to disappear in 80% of the children, however for some it may evolve into a chronic state that is called developmental stuttering. Stuttering can also occur in two other circumstances, from injuries, which is called acquired or neurogenic stuttering and another one, involving psychological aspects (Oliveira et. al., 2012). Perkins, Kent and Curlee (1991) focused on the theories to explain the possible causes of disfluency and theorized that speech disruption and time pressure are the two important variables that may account for the stuttered dysfluency.
Autism spectrum disorder is a disorder in which many children struggle with. Children, who have ASD, struggle with communication and social interaction.
