The Cursed Queen Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a kingdom named Sylvestia in the land of Edvan. It was ruled by King Edward, the Mighteous. He was an honourable, faithful, generous, and caring king who treated everyone equally, whether rich or poor. Devastatingly, King Edward passed away. After King Edward’s death, his younger sister was crowned to rule the kingdom in his place. Her name was Valisianna. She was nothing like her brother, Edward. Valisianna was a black-hearted, arrogant, and greedy queen. Her deepest desire was to own all the gold and jewels in the world. As soon as she was crowned queen, she ordered her guards to take all the valuable possessions away from the people of Sylvestia. She commanded her builders to make three enormous …show more content…
He answered her, “Before the sun sets tomorrow, you must give away all the valuable things you stole. Not a single doubloon must be left in any of your chambers and you have to release everyone whom you have held captive.” This made the queen very angry. She screamed at the man, “I came here so you could reverse this curse, not so you could tell me absurd ideas!” The queen struggled to leave the man in the dungeon as the curse had started to spread to her body, but she was not ready to sacrifice her wealth. Half of her body was already turned into stone. The queen was frightened but still unbent. She believed that someone could reverse the curse. But as the sun set, the stars glistened, and the moon shone through the queen’s window, the lifeless, cold, stone body of Queen Valisianna was lying on her bed. In the morning, the news of Queen Valisianna’s death spread like wildfire throughout the kingdom. The guards put her statue in the middle of Sylvestia to remind everyone that arrogance is never right, no matter what you could have. Valisianna’s cousin Marianna heard about her cousin’s death. She was heartbroken because when they were little, they loved each other so
Few people are fearless speakers. As students, we generally feel the rumble of butterflies in our stomachs, but the most we have to lose is a good grade.
There does not appear to be the real life idea that love is tremendously demanding and that you may have to endure multiple hardships that you may or may not overcome. For a majority of Marie’s lais, the characters seem oblivious to the problems that surround them. In addition, with magic being prevalent, the story loses the factual connection the reader may have with real life. While the magic makes the story interesting, it is hard for a reader to be connected to the stories because they are not relatable in love or ordinary life. Marie is truly a romantic and misses the knowledge that real and true relationships take work. Since magic is not present to assist when difficulties emerge, I believe that in Marie’s lais, she creates more of a fairytale, or a picturesque love. I reason that by highlighting the ideas of love the plots in The Lais of Marie de France, I have shown that while Marie’s lais endure complications in love and overcomes them to live a happily ever after, the whole idea of Marie’s love plots seem unlikely and not relatable to the real life impression of
partners, and when she finished with them they were killed. I do not think it is right to kill slaves, like the queen did. You do not have to kill people to get your point across.

And, unfortunately, an evil witch knew what the king’s weakness was. The witch – who was not at all wrinkled and ugly, just for the record – disguised herself as a maid in the castle and poisoned the queen’s food. Oh, not to kill her. If she’d done that, there’d be no story to tell. No, the poison the witch gave the queen wasn’t exactly something you could call a poison, unless you realized exactly how it would poison the kingdom. It was something more like a beauty potion, really. It made the queen grow more and more beautiful every day. So beautiful that the king could hardly take his eyes off of her, and began neglecting his royal duties to spend time with her. It wasn’t so much that he neglected them, though, that was bad. It was that, when anyone reminded him of...
The human desires of greed, wealth, and power have been embedded into the world's history as political figures have led invasions of other countries countless numbers of times. Whether invaded or being invaded, a country requires strong and capable leaders to see them through this difficult time. In 1588, Queen Elizabeth I of England gave a motivational speech to her troops using the rhetorical devices of diction, imagery, and sentence structure to motivate her subjects positively and to instill the fear of the pending invasion in their hearts.
As we draw towards others and follow them and their way we lose our own way and part of ourselves in the process. The Queen of the Damned is Anne Rice’s third book in The Vampire Chronicles series. Brian May and Roger Taylor, in 1970, set the wheels in motion for Queen when they decided to form a band during their college years. Queen started out as a band called Smile who signed with Mercury Records, and included: Tim Staffell, Brian May, and Roger Taylor. Once Tim Staffell left, the group added Freddie Mercury (lead singer) and bassist John Deacon. Freddie Mercury, Farrokh Bulsara, was a fan of Smile and was added on as the lead vocalist. John Deacon began as a young guitarist who was a member of the group called The Opposition. This band was composed of a group of friends, and they were influenced by groups such as The Hollies and Herman’s Hermits. Eventually, Deacon was added to the group that already included Mercury, Taylor, and May. Over time, the group changed their name to Queen. The name Queen was selected by Mercury, and this name is symbolic of power and regality. The addition of Mercury proved to be an essential aspect to the history of Queen’s success. In Queen: The Early Years, Hodkinson writes, “much of what made Freddie also defined Queen: without him they were merely a model rock band with a bent for a commercial tune” (2). The group became well known for their theatrical performances and costumes that were often over the top. “From their international breakthrough in 1976, Queen continually remained one of the best-selling rock acts worldwide beyond Mercury's death in 1991. Their total record sales are estimated at up to 300 million records” (Desler 391). This group was important to the evolution of music and music performance in bands that were to follow them.
