Chapter sixteen of “A Concise Public Speaking Handbook”, is about the different methods of delivering a speech. There are four different methods that speakers can use to deliver their speech. These four methods are: manuscript speaking, memorized speaking, impromptu speaking, and extemporaneous speaking. Manuscript speaking is a method that has the speaker read from a manuscript to the audience. The problem with the manuscript method is that the speech may seem boring to the audience. Memorized speaking is a method that speakers use when they are using their memory rather than relying on notes. The problem with this method is that the speaker may have trouble recalling information when speaking. Impromptu speaking is a method in which a speaker has to speak on the spot. Nonverbal communication is an important aspect of speech and is used to help convey the speaker’s feelings and ideas to the audience. Having consistent eye contact with the audience is one example of nonverbal communication. When the speaker gives consistent eye contact to his/her audience, it tells the audience that the speaker genuinely cares about them and is interested in speaking to them. Another example of nonverbal communication is the speaker using gestures. Gestures are a great way for the speaker to convey and describe ideas. The only problem with using gestures is that they can be distracting to the audience if the speaker is using too many. In the past, I will use nonverbal communication such as eye contact and hand gestures to help me communicate my points to the audience. When I have used nonverbal communication during a speech, I have felt that my audience understood my points more

In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.
For my video paper I chose to do a Pixar movie called Finding Nemo. Although Pixar movies are more aimed for the younger generations, it is becoming more popular for these movies to be introduced in the classrooms. In our DeVito text it shows and explains all the different forms of communication that can be related back to Finding Nemo. Along with other Pixar movies, they all portray many different aspects of communication. Nonverbal communication is presented in the movie by using gestures/movement. Although cartoon characters are not actually real people in the movie, they are created by real people who have experienced nonverbal communication in their lives.
Nonverbal communication is rich in meaning. Everyone communicates through nonverbal gestures and motions. I realized that you can decipher a lot from an individual or individuals by just paying close attention to what they do, and that words are not really necessary. Watching two people interacting, I figured that they are really close by their space communication, eye language, and body movements.

However, nonverbal communication is highly influenced by cultural differences as the context of the culture defines how the message is interpreted. This essay will analyse several types of nonverbal communication such as proxemics, haptics, kinesics, semiotics and paralinguistic. It will also analyse the messages conveyed by these nonverbal communication types in different cultures and their impact on the non-verbal communication process in relative cultural contexts.

It was quite interesting to take a small portion out of my day to just sit back and observe the movements and gestures of fellow human beings. The parents and the players, both of which were exhausted, were more than ready to head home from the ice and relax. Nonverbal communication is “all those elements of a communication which are not essentially linguistic in nature” (Smith, 1979, p. 637).
