Most of the food I eat comes from factory farms and/or is synthetic food. I do not like synthetic food or meat that comes from animals fed with all those steroids and chemicals that are, in fact, poison for our bodies. Even thought, organic food can be quite expensive. Factory farms, synthetic and organic foods are all, in some way, threats that impede me from having a sustainable life, so I decided to make some changes in my life.

Organic food is a term used to refer to food that is grown using only organic and sustainable resources, with no chemicals at all used on plants or to feed animals. Organic food is not only good for the human body, but also for the environment. Organic farming conserves biodiversity and promotes environmental balance. This kind of food is not processed using irradiation or synthetic additives. We are four in my house and our monthly income is not enough to afford organic food, since I cannot work because I spend the whole day at school. I am not wasting my money in useless things like games. I used to spend at least $100 buying games. I also stopped buying food at school. Steven Shapin is an expert when it comes to telling people the reality of the situation. In his, article “What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic?” Shapin exposes and explains the truth behind the word organic. He explains that our view on organic is not a reality. The small farms that we picture in our heads are really just big business in disguise and these big businesses are trying to do good by supposedly not using harmful pesticides. Which are supposed to not damage the environment but in reality they are probably not making any sort of difference. Some people care about the environment, while others are buying taste when it comes to organic food but using different pesticides are going to help the taste, only freshness tastes the best.

Sustainability is when something can be used and not be depleted, destroyed, or damaged past recovery. As we work to live sustainably, we are in effect making use of our resources in a fashion that doesn't eliminate them, and doesn't harm their source. Our resources come from the environment around us and we need to make sure that it is not harmed as we use it. According to the EPA, sustainability stems from a single principle that "Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment” (Sustainability Information). Considering this, it's obvious why we need to make sure we live sustainably and do not damage the source of our resources, our environment.

Living in a household where not everyone eats the same is hard. I know because I live in one. I no longer eat meat or processed foods but the rest of my family still does. Therefore, I see processed foods all in the kitchen cabinets and meat in the fridge and freezer. Is it hard to not give in and eat the junk when my family does the grocery and don 't buy me anything that I can eat? Yeah, it is but I can 't blame them. It 's not on their minds to buy more fruits and vegetables or no processed foods or no meat because they don 't eat that way. Therefore, I do my own food shopping and cook my own meals. I also follow people on social media who eat the way I eat and just keep in mind the reasons for why I eat the way I eat. Sometimes you have to create your own support system in order to stay strong. Over time, your body learns to reject it to the point where you get disgusted by the smell and sight of it, so don 't give up. Take each day one step at a time, plan your meals in advance, and socialize with people who eat the way you want to eat.
