Recommended: The concept of love
The reason for me choosing this specific sentence from the book is because it showed me that as life goes on, we will always need both the support and love from a person to keep us pushing through our everyday lives. This sentence means that before you can actually experience the feeling of being in love, you have to know the feeling of being loved by someone to actually get an understanding of what it means to love. It also shows that love is a key factor to the flow of life and it is well needed for people to survive. This sentence has taught me that love is something really needed in life in order for a person to survive. If a person experience how it feels to be loved, it will show them that they aren’t just doing certain things for themselves,
“On her knees, she sucked in the air and listened to the groans beneath her. She watched the whirlpool of faces, left and right, and she announced, ‘I’m not stupid.’” (79).
“It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil. It is as if we were speaking alone to no ears but our own. And we know well that there is no transgression blacker than to do or think alone” (p.3)
“Inside every cynic is a disappointed idealist.” This quote by George Carlin perfectly outlines the reasons why many people are bitter toward the world in their everyday lives. While cynicism is justified for those who have had a tough life, countless people become exceedingly pessimistic because life didn’t meet their expectations.. An example of this would be Holden Caulfield from J.D. Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye”. Salinger does an admirable job of portraying how Holden’s attitude leads to a massive downward spiral. When a person holds too high of standards for the world around them, it can lead to an unrelenting undue criticism of people around them and even hypocrisy.
“How do people come up with a date and time to take life from another man? Who made them God?” – Grant (Page 157)
In my paper you will be pleased to find that I talked about three different quotes that really spoke to me from the book Stiff by Mary Roach. The first quote is from page 82, “the point that no matter what you choose to do with your body when you die, it won’t ultimately, be very appealing.” To me this is the main topic of chapter three, and it talks about different things you are able to do with your body after death in gruesome detail. The second quote I pulled from chapter three as well, it comes from page 84, it reads; “… at birth and at death. In between we do what we can to forget.” With this quote I was able to make a very personal connection that may or may not include my last two relationships. For my third and final quote, which came
being “a person who loves has no obligation to continue loving” (pg. 5) and uses this
Rhetoric may refer to the practice of argumentation that aims to influence or modify the perspectives of the target audience (Herrick, 2005, p. 3). Critically analysing the rhetoric context of an article could help us better apprehend the writer’s rhetoric moves as analytical readers, and attain useful techniques to improve as proficient writers. This essay will be evaluating and comparing the following sentences, which both successfully delivered powerful messages within the gender equality arena yet vary in terms of their rhetorical situation, rhetorical appeals, tone, structure and style.
The effects of love and sacrifice on one’s life can be shown through the character of Lucie Manette in the novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. The way Lucie applies warmth to her friends and family and sacrifices for them has a greater impact than anything else could possibly do. In fact, loving gestures have the power to do anything. They can brighten moods and ameliorate one’s day. Overall, Love is a powerful feeling. It can be defined in many ways, but is always an important emotion to have. Without it, humans are empty. It is a necessary part of living; with it, anything is possible.
There is something to be said about quotes. The way the knowledge of achievers is brought down to just a few lines. It gives us a sense of both reflection and wisdom. They are relatable and can guide us to a conclusion of where we are and who we aspire to be. In our quote assignment we are told to choose three quotes from a selection that was posted on the board every week. All of them can be related to my life in some way, shape, or form. However, these are the three that I believe relate to me the best.
Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid once said, “Empathy is about finding echoes of another person in yourself” (Brainy Quote). Hamid is implying that this quote means the reason humans feel empathy for others is when they can relate to that person in some way. In The Color Purple, Shug is shown to have had empathy for Celie after seeing how terrible Mister treats her and hearing about Celie’s troubled and abusive past. This empathy lead Shug to take in Celie and protect her from Mister before eventually revealing her love for Celie. At one point the pair even absconded to live together in Tennessee after acknowledging the feelings they had for each other.
As any romantic will assert, love is by far the most powerful force known to human hearts and minds. This sentiment is espoused throughout history, almost to the point of cliché. Everyone has heard the optimistic statement, “love conquers all,” and The Beatles are certain, however idyllic it may be, that “all you need is love.” Humanity is convinced that love is unique within human emotion, unequalled in its power to both lift the spirit up in throws of ecstasy, and cast it down in utter despair.
Love reminds you that nothing else matters, all you need is love, and love is what makes the world go round. I never really knew that such short, common phrases could be so harmful. Because it seems like today everyone’s just throwing around the idea that love is a Band Aid and will heal all your wounds, or that love is the one thing in life that really truly matters. Due to this, certain people can feel incomplete, and in some cases, depressed.
“Love is the state in which man sees things most decidedly as they are not. The power of illusion is at its peak here, as is the power to sweeten and transfigure. In love man endures more, man bears everything. A religion had to be invented in which one could love: what is worst in life is thus overcome – it is not even seen any more.”
Love is arguably the most powerful emotion possessed by mankind; it is the impalpable bond that allows individuals to connect and understand one another. Pure love is directly related to divinity. Without love, happiness and prosperity become unreachable goals. An individual that possesses all the desired superficial objects in the world stands alone without the presence of love. For centuries love has been marveled by all that dare encounter it. Countless books and poems have been transcribed to explain the phenomenon of love, but love surpasses all intellectual explanations and discussions. Love is not a definition, but rather a thought, an idea. This idea, the idea of love, burns inside us all. Instinctually, every soul on Earth is
