From the moment the author introduces her to the reader, she displays two qualities that remain throughout the book: generosity and self-control. Her first word aims to welcome strangers at the family table (“Let’em come”).

The ability to persevere through hardships and trials were her teachings. Lessons learned were those of strength and determination. In the poem “Mother to Son” a mother tells of her persistence through life’s obstacles, encouraging her son not to give up. “Well, son, I’ll tell you.
It is well thought out from the beginning to the end. Jennifer started teaching in 1986. Since then, she has written magazine articles, textbook lessons, teacher resource books, reading programs, and picture books. Jacobson is also a literacy coach and an author-in-residence. From reading the introduction, I learned that she has accomplished a lot in the writing field. I think it is helpful to read that she started out as an ordinary teacher. I connected with her experience in the classroom when she was enthusiastic to teach her students about writing while at the same time being enthusiastic to learn from her students about writing. I am excited to teach my future students too. However, with my experience as a daycare worker, I have learned that children can also teach me a thing or two (Jacobson, 2010, p. 1-3).

And while I can’t help you with the first and the last respectively, becoming a “Basket-baller” is quite feasible, with a little hard work.

She says, “And so as we were leaving, I decided to leave him a tip. I opened my bag, put my hand inside my bag, brought out my money that I had earned from doing my work, and I gave it to the man. And he, this man who was very grateful and very happy, took the money from me, looked across at Louis and said, "Thank you, sir!"

“Fasting is an effective and safe method of helping the body detoxify itself.” Quote by: James F. Balch, and Phyllis A. Balch. When you begin fasting, toxins are created in your body, mostly because of food and water. During your fast your body is provided resting time, most importantly, it gives your organs a rest which could potentially prolong your life. To prepare yourself for a fast you should try to eat mostly fruits, and vegetables. Intermittent fasting means fasting for certain hours of a day. While periodic fasting is when you fast for three days or longer for two or more weeks. The description of hunger is when your bodies respond to lack of food, then your body begins searching for food. If you get hungry during your fast it’s advised that you eat watermelon (if you absolutely need it), drink lemon juice or coffee. While giving organs rest and creating longevity, fasting is a controlled medical regimen.

When I look back to my young developing stages in life, I always ask myself where would I be today if it wasn’t for my teachers? Teachers are the ones who build our future generations. Preparing children and teens for higher education. Also playing a huge part in shaping children’s lives, enlightening them, and educating them about society and the world around them; the types of things that a parent doesn’t have time for, or just lacks the knowledge of. I think teachers are what help make this world go round.
When I was growing up, I remember attending elementary school, learning a new language seems to be difficult at first, but I was able to learn the English language because of the dedication of one of my teachers. Now, as I reflect on this experience, it is obvious that she was dedicated and enjoyed teaching her students to be successful. I know today that she made a difference in my life as I navigated through my education experience and high school years to present.
