Sara Palin said “sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge, and children with special needs inspire a very, very special love.” When I was a child my mom had to open a home day care. The reason for this was my cousins have special needs and their mother could not find a day care that was willing to help them. Having my cousins with me as I grew up help me understand that people with special need are no different but just need more love. This is why scenario three seemed the best one for me to choose.
Some people have trouble understanding that a special need children are just like any other child however they need just a little more love and caring. In this scenario I think one of the biggest problems is communication. One choice I could try is bring awareness to my staff without revealing to much personnel information. Another thing I may do is try to figure what timeworks best for the mother. Lastly I

One of the major problem is you would have to take away time from work and production to have a group meeting. Another is the mother may feel embarrass and feel like you are pointing her out to everyone. Since this scenario may not work I may choose scenario two. Which would be to see what time works best for the mother of the special child. I would first pull her aside and ask her, if she feels like she can talk to me, what is the best time for you? If she has to get her child to a daycare maybe a middle day swift would be better. Or I could see if splitting her swift would work. Have her come in for four hours, then later on have her come back. I would want to make it clear though that she does not have tell me any information and I am only trying to change her work load to help her. If she could talk to me I may be able to understand why she is late to work. Once I understand why I may be able to help her with getting to work on time and hopefully reliving some of her
As Moms, we are always hopeful that we will deliver perfect children, and most of the time we do. When Mother Nature steps in though, and that doesn’t happen, it’s those parents that step up to the plate to raise and love that child that deserve the accolades. One such family that I personally know is my daughter-in-law. Her younger brother is a special needs child and she grew up as a middle-child with the focus on the younger brother. She recently graduated with a degree in Special Needs Education, but instead chose to pursue another path with younger children. After a life-time of dedication to her younger brother, she decided to take a break. When I met her family, I was in awe of the love and care, the dedication to the brother and the sacrifices that the other family made in order to raise him at home. He just turned twenty-two and graduated from a special school, with honor and pride. Much of what I read in this amazing book remin...
Eloise, a supervisor at the Federal Administration Agency (FAA), was faced with trying to ensure productivity when one of her workers became ill, and was not maintaining her level of work. Brenda, who had been a computer programmer for the Management Information Systems Support Division of the FAA for nine years, was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 1991. She left work immediately to have an operation and to start treatments. Brenda was supposed to return to work after the medical procedure so Eloise reached out to her in February. Brenda stated that she did not feel up to it, that she would continue to use her sick leave and would return in March. Seeing that Brenda would not be back in the near future, Eloise asked the other workers in the office to “pitch in” and help pick up the slack in work due to her absence. To entice one employee to pitch in, she upgraded his work status from a GS7 to a GS9 (which is what Brenda’s status was) until Brenda returned. In March, Brenda could not return to work on her scheduled date and had her medical leave extended until she became better accustomed to the chemotherapy treatments.
Would I run away like her mom did? Would I not treat her so well, like her dad did? Of course not. When special needs children are born, how do their families handle it? Some parents, in my opinion, do a great job. They treat their child like nothing was wrong—how it should be. However, on the flip side, there are parents who love their children less because they were born with a
My People with Disabilities Single Story Narrative In 6th grade, I remembered seeing the ambulance outside the windows of my elementary school. I was in the classroom when there was a rush of EMTs entering the building. Students all started to run towards the door, including me, but were told to get back to our seats. Throughout the day, I was wondering who might have gotten hurt while praying it wasn't my sister or brother.
I interviewed a woman who has a child with special needs. The child is now in kindergarten. The mother reported having a normal pregnancy with no complications. This was the second child for the mother, who has another child who was five years old at the time. The mother disclosed that during the pregnancy, she was in the process of separating from the child’s father and that this caused a moderate level of stress. At the time of the pregnancy, the mother was also working full time as a waitress in a local restaurant. The mother reported that her job required her to be on her feet for long periods of time. She was able to work until around a week before her child was born. The mother reports that the child was born around two weeks early but that labor was easy and the child was born healthy.
According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) in regard to immigration and refugee resettlement “Working toward fair and just immigration and refugee policies is important to the profession of social work and essential to the realization of human rights. Social workers recognize migration as a complex social, cultural, and political process” (NASW, 2008). America is often held and quoted as the land of the immigrants. Immigrants coming from South America, Africa, Asia and many other places often make the United States their permanent home. Immigrant families come to the United States for a slue of reasons, many times coming simply for the increased number of opportunities. However, on many occasions, these immigrants arrive and cannot get legal permanent residency and therefore cannot meet their needs, even the most basic ones. Abraham Maslow described a hierarchy of needs, from the most basic to the most complex, in his 1943 paper “A Theory of Human Motivation”. In this hierarchy, the basic needs start at physiological and go up from there to safety, love/belonging, esteem and self-actualization. When many immigrants arrive in the United States, they expect their needs to be taken care of, and they are left stupefied by the reality of very few of these needs being covered.
I have worked with many teachers in this line of work and have watched how they interact with the kids. I have worked with all kinds of kids with special needs, ranging from reading disabilities to severe mental retardation. Some of the teachers that I have worked with, I have not approved of their tactics on how they handled the kids, but you learn and you adapt. Eventually you will know what is right and what is wrong.

Raising a child with a disability may have some difficulties and challenges but it will have a lot of rewards; just as having a normal child. A parent want their child to live a normal fulfilling life as any other normal child. This life style will take extra patience, time and adaptive equipment and a special person to do it. When accepting that your child has a disability it is good to get all the literature on that type of disability. This will help you understand your child’s disability. A parent involvement is needed to find support groups, so they can get some insight on things someone from the support group has done to get certain things accomplished.

In order to overcome this barrier workers would need to email parents, phone parents or hold information sessions at flexible times such as in the evening or on a Saturday. Workers could also update the settings website with news and information so parents can access it. Another barrier that could occur in the early years setting is the parent(s) could have a disability that affects their mobility; in order to overcome this barrier workers could choose a place that suits the needs of the parent and find out how to meet the parents needs by helping them with doors and providing ramps and adjusting height of chairs. Workers should also check that the setting complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. A parent may also have a disability that affects their communication and therefore workers should find out how to meet that parents needs by speaking more clearly or getting a signer to help support the parent with their communication.
Have you ever imagined the world of teaching through the eyes of a special education teacher? It takes a unique person to educate children with disabilities. The career of a special education teacher is an interesting career, because you get to help children overcome obstacles and become productive citizens. The research will describe the career of a special education teacher, what is required to become a successful special education teacher, and the impact this career has on society.
Therefore, the way people with disabilities were treated and taken care of has changed a lot compared to the present time. By saying this, I would have to view the situation during the years the movie takes place and then again for present time. If I was living in the year 1964 when Phoebe was born and was working as a social worker, I would help Caroline do the right thing for the baby. Weather it was to tell the mother what her husband did or if the family decided not to keep the child, then I would help Caroline adopt the baby as her own. However, if the movie took place in present day, as a social worker I would have more authority and power to see if the father was just making a rash decision or if the family really does not want to raise a child with disability. I would communicate as best as I could to teach the family the positive and negative things that come with raising a child with a disability. I would give examples of families who choose to keep the child and families who gave up their child. I would never hide any facts and tell the truth so families will be given all of the facts and know almost anything is possible. Also in present time, Human Services would also have more power to help the family with a child with disability and get them the proper help to deal with the addition. All in all, I feel in 2015 as a social worker or human
Someone working with special needs children should be aware of the many factors that contribute to a child’s improvement. Although there are many factors, some of the main ones include the child’s social interaction, environment, and also overall health.
Special education is an incredibly important, but often underappreciated aspect of education. There is a stigma around individuals with disabilities, that leads people to assume those in special education are less capable or smart as their peers in in a strictly traditional classroom setting. That could not be farther from the truth though, and the individuals in special education are just as capable of learning and maturing in to successful adults. As a future teacher, I was not really aware of how little I knew about special education until I enrolled in this course. This course has helped change and shape my views of special education, and helped me gain a better understanding of what exceptional children are and how I can better serve them
