SPEAKING
As human being, we need to communicate with others to deliver messages or express something. The way to convey or express something to other is speaking. In other words, speaking is an interactive process of constructing meaning that involves producing and receiving and processing information (Brown, 1994; Burns & Joyce, 1997). The form of speaking is depending on the context, participants, experiences, physical environment and the purposes. Without speaking someone is hard to deliver the message for the receiver. Speaking is sometimes also spontaneous and not always unpredictable. Spontaneous means speaking is happen at the time while not always unpredictable is speaking can be prepared before. Recently, people need to boost their skills with another thing, it is vocabulary. Students who learn English as L2 need to know vocabulary much in order to add their understanding about English words. In simple meaning, vocabulary is set of words in language that are known by that person. Cambridge Advanced Learners dictionary defined vocabulary as all the words known and used by a particular person. There are many advantages of having wide vocabulary, first it can express yourself better and impressing others. Second, vocabularies allow people to have finer distinction in their thinking. Third, vocabularies in the field of study allow people to think better and more productively about the aspect of the study. Fourth, having wide vocabulary make people are more accurately to describe something. Fifth, wide vocabulary also can make people have better job, salaries and friends because they have good self confidence. As we know before, there are four categories of vocabulary; reading vocabulary, listening vocabulary, speaking vocabulary and speaking vocabulary. Reading vocabulary is all the words he or she can recognize when reading and generally the largest type of vocabulary. Listening vocabulary is all the words he or she can recognize when listening to a speech by using tone, gestures, topic and context of the conversation. Speaking vocabulary is all the words he or she uses in speech and it is to be a subset of listening vocabulary. The last, writing vocabulary is words that are used in various forms of writing from formal to informal one. Communication serves various purposes, takes different forms, communication has six characteristics, and trains us how to communicate interpersonally. Communication meets people’s physical, relational, spiritual needs and fills identity needs of human needs. Communication naturally follows a certain process and there are three models or theories that describe this process. Human communication is taken to an action where the user encodes message and conveys it through a communication channel for the receiver to encode, an interaction which explains that our message are shaped by the feedback we receive from others and the context in which we are interacting, or a transaction where both people in a conversation are simultaneously senders and receivers.
In its most basic form, communicating involves a sender who takes his or her thoughts and encodes them into verbal and non-verbal messages that are sent to a receiver. The receiver than decodes the messages and attempts to understand what the sender meant to communication. The communication is completed when the receiver transmits verbal and nonverbal feed back to indicate his or her reception and understanding of the message. This process takes place within a context; also know as rhetorical situation, which includes all that affects the communication process such as the sender-receiver’s culture, the sender-receiver‘s relationship, the circumstances surrounding the sender-receiver’s interaction, and the physical environment of the interaction.
Vocabulary development should give the students the ability to learn the meaning of new words and concepts that are presented to them in their text. Learning this skill will help students with comprehension and their content area curriculum. By teaching students vocabulary development, students will have a reserve of new words, connect new words with their previous knowledge, gain the ability to understand and comprehend the text, and lastly, it will increase a students’ word knowledge to connect with their comprehension and success.
Growing up learning and speaking English has been something that was difficult for me at first but then came easy, but that was not the case for my mother. She spent her whole life speaking Spanish, so when she decided to take English learning classes it was challenging. However, she had me to help her throughout her struggle. I helped her complete her homework and assignments. We would also go to the library to check out easy level reading books to have her read to me. I would correct her English when it was wrong and do all I could to boost her confidence. It took me a while to understand and figure out what the best way to teach her was, but it was a fun experience for the both of us. Teaching her English was difficult because things that
The act of communication is an everyday an act a person does without considering their behavior. Friend and Cook (2013) interpret the concept of communication and how to understand an act that is done without placing any thought into the everyday behavior. They explain how sender and receive might receive or give information to one another, but unfortunately the message may not come clear and be misinterpreted. When communicating with others, the message may not become clear to the receiver for several reasons. For example, the sender did not explain the message clearly or the receiver can not comprehend the conversation due to their surrounding. The act of communication can become challenging do to personal perspective or lack of communication.
We don’t teach it. If we read novels in class they have to read it out loud. We don’t teach it or score it.
Communication is the process of constructing meaning together. We live in a world of meaning, and communication is the process of collaboratively constructing these meanings. We hope in this process, that presenting something to other individuals that we are getting our ideas across precisely. We would hope that through this process the receiver would be able to translate our messages into ideas. Unfortunately there are a lot of barriers to this process. I will be discussing four different topics, verbal & nonverbal communication, perception, listening, and self-disclosure. Through the presentation of these topics, I will demonstrate several ways in which we can communicate among ourselves more effectively. This paper will demonstrate how we can become more effective as communicators, and to be able to apply the four topics covered.

Good reading skills are very important in learning languages. Reading improves spelling because as students learn to sound out letters and words, spelling comes easier. It helps to expand the vocabulary, since the best way to acquire a large vocabulary is to read. Students learn new words as they read and put them in their mind for later use. . They also unconsciously absorb the information about things like how to structure the sentences, how words are used in different contexts, and it gives a better understanding of the word usage and definitions than the cold facts of a dictionary. It improves a person’s vocabulary and knowledge without the person even knowing it. Even if students do not understand every word, they will hear new sounds, words and phrases which they can then try out, copying what they have heard. They can comprehend ideas, follow arguments and detect implications. Reading texts also provide good models for English writing. Krashen (2004) found that reading is extremely important in learning English, since it is the only way to “become a good reader, develop a good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammar” and the only way to “become a good speller”.
Speaking is a natural ability given to most reluctant individuals. Since the beginning of time, it has been assumed that we have a right to speak and use words, thus we naturally begin our development of language during the early stages of live. After years of grasping and perfecting our vocabulary and language, it seems unnecessary to study the purpose of our development. Why, then, should we study “oral communication?” There are many purposes, benefits, and institutions that branch from oral communication. Of course, communication is the basis of interaction with other individuals through the use of expressions and words; however, through studying oral communication, one can take the words and expressions being used and apply them to his or her own life.
