Space Exploration Space exploration is a significant part of today’s culture because it is improving our knowledge of what's beyond our atmosphere. It is important to consider the cost of space exploration, the risks, and how the world takes care of Earth. Overall, this issue requires society to consider the financial and ethical consequences that exploration has. The topic of space exploration is significant because their are many important issues that need to be addressed. The amount of taxes Americans pay is on the rise, with space exploration being a little chunk of the puzzle. In a dollar worth of taxes, $.06 of it is in the ‘other’ category; within this category includes eleven services including space exploration (Source C). If you were to divide $.06 between eleven different services that leaves about $.005 per dollar of taxes. To look at it on a …show more content…
broader scale, if you were to spend $100 on taxes, only $.54 would be going to space exploration. As space exploration is becoming more popular, and more frequent among astronauts through NASA, its important to consider how humans treat the planet Earth, it is full of trash and pollution in the oceans, and even around cities and nature.
If Earth is treated this poorly, how would humans treat different planets if they were moved their? They would be polluting the planets and transforming them from their natural state. As NASA chief Michael Griffin is setting the stage for the expansion of human presence into the solar system, we need to think about the problems that occur with it (Source E). If humans are moving and exploring planets like the moon, or mars (as they are trying) it could potentially harm the planets if humans are not careful. As we make more frequent trips we are harming and changing the presence state the planets, especially since we cant even take care of our own planet. Disturbing these planets can cause disruption of migration routes, soil erosions and species extinction (Source E). Potentially our explorations could cause a more substantial risk than anticipated if NASA is not
careful. Going into space can lead to a great deal of hazardous problems for the human body, that can harm the body long term. As recognized decades ago, there are hazardous risks of traveling through space, even going to the moon! Astronauts have returned back to Earth to be put into quarantine to prevent back contamination, which is the hazard that some infectious germs might be riding with them back to Earth (Source F). If this hazardous germ got out and reached the rest of the human population there could be a great safety risk involved. How would we survive this potential life threatening germ if humans were to move to different planets? It is also possible that the infection of alien ecosystems could get down to Earth as well, which gets their by attaching onto the spacecraft (Source F). Avoiding this possibility is almost nearly impossible. As once landing on Earth this torturous organism may spread its way around the Earth, with the risk of attaching to and harming living creatures. Space exploration has many issues that need to be considered. As I feel the taxes being paid and and the risks to the planets themselves and earth are the most important. That being said, space exploration is important, but has some flaws in the system that may potentially be very harmful for living species.
history. It managed to send the first human into orbit and to the moon. The discoveries, NASA have made in the recent decades have enabled us to have more knowledge of planets and stars, and resources way beyond this planet. In another hand, reasons as to why the U.S. Government should continue to fund NASA 's space program is a huge deal today. With the ideals that American tax dollars should be spent on more important things and that companies are now able to construct their own rockets that are able to send people on excursions into space, really is what challenges government support and true betterment of
Have you ever wondered what Earth was like without space exploration? In the story Leaving Main Street the author states, “The United States has more important things to spend money on.” On the other hand some people believe that successful space programs adds to our economy, national prestige, create jobs, and improves national security. We shouldn't spend valuable resources on space exploration, because we could end hunger and poverty.

In making decisions concerning space exploration, there are many issues and planning that need to be addressed. Space exploration is a serious thing and there needs to be a thorough thinking process on what is going to occur and backup plans in case anything happens. Leaving earth requires a good amount of work and expense, but in today's time we need to start thinking about these issues since on earth we are having serious problems such as the disappearance of the rainforest, the pollution of the oceans, an increase in desertification in some areas, and major climate changes. Now space exploration is a necessity.
As a country we need to start investing more money and research into space technology. Programs currently exist for this effort, but the potential for research and progress is limited by a lack of funding; compared to other government funded programs, aerospace funding is pitiful. Continued research in space technology is a necessary step in our growth and development not just as a country but also as entire human race. If we are to achieve this goal, it is necessary to increase funding for space research and technology and consider the possibility of colonizing outer space. If we limit our existence to the planet Earth, and continue to drain the resources on this planet, we will destroy the only home we have.
This concept would suggest that the view from space would have a dramatic effect on politics and cause the world to have a more united front. Margaret R. Mclean however advises that before rushing in to space exploration humanity should have a clear set of rules, “Despite the depths of space, it is not so limitless as to be able to weather mistreatment or suffer every demand we may place on it.” (Mclean) This caveat checks the previous assertion that space can be used for humanities needs and instead places humans in a “stewardship” (Mclean) relationship with the universe. This contrast between the ethics of Earth and the ethical way we treat space is important to recognize when discussing space
Humans have dreamed of leaving the earth and traveling space for many years, and up to this day they have taken many steps in the right direction. Yet, with every new frontier they approach, new problems loom over the horizon. All problems involved with space exploration may not directly involve space itself. Many of those problems surface right here on Earth. Some of the easier issues have been resolved, such as escaping the forces of gravity to reach outer space. More of these problems are far more arduous and the solutions need more time to be worked out properly. In “The Coming Schism” by James E. and Alcestis R. Oberg, humans have already begun colonizing space, yet there are still new problems arising. Major problems such as financing, communication and culture conflicts are important in the journey to space, because they all have the potential to disrupt progress.
NASA’s research and innovation looked promising, but it came at a cost. Money, resources, and spacecraft accidents, most famously Apollo 13 all hindered NASA’s research. In the 21st century, the debate over funding for NASA is at its peak since the birth of the organization in 1958, especially when there are numerous problems throughout the world. Is the money spent on space exploration worth the advantages and advances it contributes to society? When considering this topic, one might ask themselves, why explore space?
As such, this essay will argue that space exploration is a necessity of our kind and that NASA should be progressively more financed. To begin with, space research has helped bring several developments to modern science, affecting the quality of our everyday lives. With issues like climate change, and population overgrowth, our species faces the risks of major extinction (4). Climate change has been a man-made problem in recent years that threatens our planet. It will take huge mitigations from current and future societies to even come close to reversing climate change.
People have been venturing out into the universe for many years now. In addition to satellites, both women and men astronauts have traveled into space to collect data about the universe. The first human being, the first animal, and the first spacecraft in orbit, were all achievements of the Soviet Union.
For example, hospitals, schools, and churches are all impacted by space programs. It makes the economy, culture and growth larger. It
We will throw trash on the ground, burn wood and smoke cigarets but don’t realize that we are destroying our planet while doing that. Overpopulation, Pollution, Warfare, Global Warming, and other global issues are destroying our planet at an alarming rate. Space travel presents a way to deal will these problems. For example, if you take a closer look at what NASA does, you will realize that NASA is not just about rockets and space, according to the article, Top 5 Ways That NASA Helps the Environment by Julia Layton for HowStuffWorks, the author states “NASA does more in the Earth-sciences arena than many of us realize. And these days, that means environmental science.
Space is more than the stars and planets, it is the future. The cosmos is one of the biggest mysteries, therefore, exploring it has been getting more expensive over the years. Now, the public is questioning if the large amounts of money put into space programs was worth the cost. Being said, spending valuable resources on space exploration is highly beneficial because it enhances mankind’s knowledge to improve the way of life on Earth and allows space programs, like NASA, to use different planets as a resource or a new home. Supporting the progress of space exploration verifies the improvement of society’s knowledge.
Most people think that the costly downside to funding space exploration is a reason to avoid spending money on sciences and instead spend it on problems here on earth, but such funding for space exploration actually promotes economical as well as scientific benefits. Space exploration is an important expenditure for the high cost because of the potential for numerous benefits such as the possibility to find useful resources to cultivate, space exploration and satellites produce many thousands of jobs in our economy, and it creates and discovers newer and better technologies through research and development.
“Sheltered as we are by Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field, which deflect lethal radiation from space, we are like coddled children who have never ventured into a tough neighborhood” (Folger 2). Humans have been fascinated with space since the beginning of our time. Just like children and rough neighborhoods, we have tackled obstacle over obstacle to make it home again. In the end, we have a better knowledge and strength than before. The future of space exploration can assist us in answering the everlasting question of how the universe came to be. The more we explore the infinite galaxies, the more we can scientifically discover and create new technologies as science advances. As we continue to discover, we can create new fields and occupations for aspiring young students like myself.
