Satire is a genre of film, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming others itself to do self-discovery into seeking improvement (“Satire”). What is a good satire and more importantly, what makes a good satire? What makes an impressive satire requires important components (criteria). South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is the best cinematic example of social satire due to its utilization of satirical components such as irony, exaggeration, and parody. One of the reasons for why this film has a very primitive animation to exaggeration everything within the film. Animation can bring any concept to life unlike other mediums especially since the film wants to bring messages about issues in America. Another benefit of animation exaggeration is that due to its primitive animation since censorship could be avoided since it may be crude, but not too explicit compared to if it were live action. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the film, discuss on how animation can be updated very quickly which helps the film stay updated on current events. For this reason, the film was able to reshape and restructure the plot and social commentary. Animation has the ability to reach out to more people that wouldn’t normally be involved in the realm of political commentary. Exaggeration is used to get the point across to the audience that even though the parents of South Park say they care about the children but spend little to no effort to protect them. The parents of South Park discover that their children learned profanity from the rated R film, that’s leads them to form an organization called Mothers Against Canada (MAC). The group is so powerful they managed to make the rated R film a censored version the average viewing audience. Not only that, but MAC is so powerful within the United States they manage to let President Clinton sign a war treaty against Canada.
