The goal of this project was to create an accurate 3-dimensional miniature version of my sorority house, Pi Beta Phi. This goal also turned into a research question on if it would even be possible to replicate this intricate house accurately into Sketchup. The challenge of this project was finding architectural plans, elevations of the exterior of the house as well as measurements and angles of the house. This motivated me to make sure that my 3D design in Sketchup was as accurate as possible in order to put into our chapter’s archives as a copy of the house since we did not have one. I wanted it to not be my interpretation or approximation but something that could stand as an accurate representation of the house and its details. This was not meant to be a simulacrum because I was not basing this off of a copy of the house but the house itself. Thus, I was very meticulous at …show more content…
It was important to me to make this 3D model of Pi Phi because I view this historical home of ours as my sanctuary and a sacred space that we love and protect. Just like a church or a temple we conduct rituals which include biblical scripture being recited during chapter meetings, initiation and other traditions. We keep the place from being profane by having a no alcohol, no drugs, no tobacco product rule on Pi Phi grounds. Another rule to keep the place sacred is that no boys are allowed in any of the girl’s rooms and no visitors other than Pi Phis are allowed in the house after 11pm.
Another research question this project addressed was how to go about finding old records and resources of one of NC’s Historical District houses. This proved to be difficult due to the fact that our house was built in 1915 and we acquired it in 1925 as one of the first sororities at UNC. Through the
At a young age I knew as an African American woman through activism, educational autonomy, and community service, I can thrive through the wake of extreme poverty and turmoil faced by the people of my neighborhood of East New York. My interest in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. The ladies of this organization exude exemplary character who excel in sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, and integrity. Throughout my life I always encouraged myself to have these ideal characteristics without knowing that one day I would be pursuing membership in a prestigious organization, whom upheld the key principles “greater service, greater progress. The first

When I think of a Delta woman, I think of a compassionate, community-oriented, and diligent individual. During my childhood, I was not blessed with the opportunity of having a sister. Longing for that “sisterly bond” that Delta women acquire is what ignited my interest towards becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated at a young age. As I got older and evolved more into my dream of being a Mortician, which happens to be in a male dominated field, I want nothing more than to be involved in an organization that uplifts women in a positive way, while dominating in their career choice. My career choice of owning a funeral business as an African American woman is one of the many great assets I have to offer to Delta Sigma Theta

After completion of this step the architects use the surveying drawing to develop a working drawing for the building. In these drawing you will see triangles, rectangles, squares, arches and other geometry shapes and forms to create their design. The architects through our history have used these shapes to create famous structures all over the world. If you go back to Roman historical sites you will see such examples like the great Coliseum. A great example can be seen is the famous Egyptian pyramid. Some other famous structures are the Eiffel Tower which is in Italy, and Chrysler building in New York. If you look around your neighborhood houses, you will see these shapes.
