A big part of nursing is reflection. Now that my sophomore year is nearly over, I can see how much I have grown and how much knowledge I received. Throughout this semester I have been faced with many thrilling experiences and frightening experiences. I have learned a lot through my gerontology clinical, pharmacology and fundamentals courses. Now that I am in clinical it seems that everything is coming together. Practicing in fundamentals and then practice on a real person has been very beneficial. Once I have performed a skill and tested out I’ve notice I am likely to remember how to do the skill again in practice. In this paper I am going to review some of the main objectives I felt were beneficial to me and will always be an important part of nursing practice. One objective that I have learned throughout my nursing courses this semester is to translate scholarship into practice. I was so excited that I was able to apply what I learned in my current and previous nursing courses and use it for clinical this semester. Personally, I feel clinical is the missing piece to the puzzle. For example this objective applies for Foundations because we practice how to give medication and we got checked off for it. Finally we applied it into practice at clinical by passing medications numerous of times. Not only does this objective apply for foundations but it also applies to pharmacology and gerontology. Now I know how to give medications, I know the different reactions and side effects and I know how it will specifically react to the Gerontological population. In the beginning of clinical I was very nervous and didn’t know what to expect. Now looking back I can see how much I have grown. I am proud to say during my nursing career this semester I receive knowledge I can use to help others. The reason I want to be a nurse is because it is full of adventure and thrills of its own, expressive and physical not to mention the widespread coverage of knowledge about humanity and life being. I want to be helpful in other people lives; I want to help people through their bad and good times. I know sometimes there is nothing we can do as nurses to help a patient during the most difficult times in their lives but if I can at least put a smile on that person face while they are struggling with their illness, makes me smile. I’ve personally saw how the elderly was treated during my CNA class and I love that I was able to make a difference during my Gerontology clinical.
The role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in health care has been identified as a critical role in the goal to provide high-quality health care. APRNs have a bigger role to play in the health care system and it is important that students are provided with relevant and valuable knowledge as well as experience that improve their abilities. The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is the governing body of all registered nurses in Ontario and is regulated. The CNO provides expectations and guidelines to follow, which need to be met by each Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) individually. As a nursing student, I am taught about the CNO and the importance of referring back to the guidelines while caring for patients. While gaining experiencing in the nursing field through my clinical settings, I have realized as a nursing student there are areas I need further development in. When I began this journey I knew that Nursing was all I wanted to do and in order to succeed and do well in nursing school, it was going to require a ton of devotion and sacrifice. Nursing school did not come without its challenges, not only did we have to deal with going to class, clinicals, studying for exams, but we also had to add in the factors of jobs, family, marriages, children, sickness and our daily life. But our instructors encouraged us and pushed us to keep going, and for that we are grateful because we all made a decision to stick with it, and here we are today. It seems unimaginable that just a year ago this journey was just beginning, but here we are today a year later,
Our course, Transition to Professional Nursing, is barely two weeks old and already I am being enlightened and challenged to expand my experience of nursing. I will attempt to explain my personal journey and experience thus far including how and why I got here, my beliefs about nursing and related values, and my visions for the future.
This experience will definitely influence my future practice; my action plan would be using those teaching strategies in preparing students to face the clinical environment, to ensure optimal patients’ health outcomes and it helps to build a competent and independent clinician.
As mentioned by Hunter and Arthur (2016), one of the main reasons I could maintain and improve my practice was due to clinical placements. During clinical placements we are frequently being assessed and taught in dealing with real situations. Feelings As learning is a lifelong process, I’m sure there are many things I need to improve and learn to better myself. However, the lessons I learned during the course as a nursing student shall always remain as a bedrock for my future development.
This essay is going to reflect upon the nursing skills I developed during a period of placement simulations, placing emphasis on oral care, communication with a non-engaging patient and bed bath. It will outline the fundamental aspects of clinical nursing skills that I have begun to acquire. This will also highlight the learning processes which took place and how it helped me to enhance my knowledge, and ethical values in order to deliver quality and safety of care. Using a variety of sources from current literature, I will use a reflective model to discuss how I have achieved the necessary level of learning outcome. By utilising this model I hope to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding in relation to these skills as well as identifying areas with scope for learning.

Throughout my final ten weeks at my placement, I have grown and overcome so many obstacles. I have accomplished a wide range of skills since the beginning and have been improving on them as I gained experience. At my placement as a student nurse, I have gained a lot of confidence, skills, knowledge and experiences that have helped me act and work in a professional way. All the experiences I have had during the ten weeks of my student years have helped me in shaping me into a professional.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned such an array of important matters and aspects of nursing that will help me in the future. Among these topics were learning how to prepare for and take the NCLEX, learning how to manage stress and about self-care, learning how to be open-minded and realize one’s privileges, learning about the definition of nursing as well as nursing theorists, and learning about a plethora of options in the nursing field. Through discussing and thinking about these matters, I feel as though I have become a totally different person than I was at the beginning of the semester.
Help improved my clinical skills and professional development, made me proactive and thus have learnt that reflection is an important tool for student nurse to improve on their practice.

My reasons for selecting a career in nursing stem directly from my desire to help our prospering population and community. This career appeals to me because it embodies what I strive to become, a person of influence, a guide, a respected adult, a mentor, and a person that can be trusted and looked up to with great passion.
