She started talking about the hard times we are going through when it is about social justice. In my opinion, nowadays some people do not have social justice towards other because of the way they treat each other and also because everyone is judge based on their beliefs, race, gender and many more things that take us to build injustice. Nieto express that if we use Martin Luther King, Jr’s thoughts to guide our minds we are going to be people with a better understanding of all the issues our society can face such as racial discrimination, immigration, and other issues. think that in other for us to have good people capable of understanding the things that happen around us, we need a good education starting with the little ones. I agree with Sonia Nieto when she states, “Teaching is the responsibility not only of teachers but also of parents and families”. This made me think that most of the parents feel like they are the ones responsible for feeding their children and to supply their needs with all the material things but moral. Most of them think the responsibles for making their children better people are teachers, not knowing that the best education starts at home. In other words, parents need to feed their children’s mind with a moral education so we could have a better future. My reaction to this article is that everyone should be acknowledged of the things that happen in our society. Also, in order to see a change we need to start from the bottom and make the growing generation better people with different minds. Finally, as Sonia Nieto said, we need to guide our minds with the ideas of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. if we want to get rid of those hard times caused by social injustice.
Sotomayor faced a lot of racism throughout her life, and her family often struggled due to a lack of money. However, Sotomayor still shined through the struggles to show her drive, independence, and her intelligence. During this time society was just getting used to including women in higher education institutions so the concept of including minorities in higher education was almost non-existent. My Beloved World, by Sonia Sotomayor shows the challenges that a first generation, Puerto Rican, lower socioeconomic female had during this time. Through her autobiography she shows the struggles she faced throughout her life, focusing on her application to college, college experience and insight into her cultural background. My Beloved World present the ideology of White Supremacy and other phenomenon’s such as structural inequality, and socioeconomic inequality that interfere with Sonia’s inability to receive preparation for college and these things show the that America has not made good on its promise of equal opportunity for all.

My definition of social justice in the field of education is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child and the British-Colombia School Act that state that every child has a right to a proper education (UNICEF, n.d.; School Act, RSBC 1996, c. 412). A proper education to me is based on opportunity. I believe that in order to have a proper education, children should all be entitled to equal opportunity in their learning process. Children should have equal opportunity to obtain the supports that will assist them in achieving their potential.

Over the past several decades, women of the United States have debated and struggled for many freedoms guaranteed to them by the Founding Fathers. One of these women, Susan B. Anthony, traveled across the country giving passionate speeches and writing books of conviction about women’s suffrage. Even though women would not always win cases brought to court, they still retained their views and continued their movement to gain their rightful freedoms. Susan B. Anthony in her speech, “On Women’s Right to Vote,” which was written in 1873, showed that Anthony believed that suffrage was a vital liberty of citizens of the United States and she demonstrated this notion thorough several pieces of evidence.
Knowledge is power. An example of awareness producing activism can be seen in the war against Iraq. When one learns of an unjust war being carried out they, now knowing the circumstances, will act as they will to stop the injustices occurring. The same can be seen in women’s activism. When people become educated on the topic of women’s rights, they come to understand the circumstances and can act accordingly to help stop the problems from carrying on. Maria Hinojosa wrote an essay entitled, “A Supreme Sotomayor: How My Country Has Caught up to Me” (21). Hinojosa writes about minorities and their job status (21). The author believes that minorities are just now getting powerful jobs that can have an effect of the country, for an example the author uses Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor (22).
