Section #5: Battle between Good and Evil In the novel, Something Wicked This Way Comes, the battle between good and evil supports the Dust Witch’s wicked character and unrighteous actions in the story. The novel ‘The gathering’ by Isobelle Carmody doesn’t just explore good vs evil like most fantasy novels but also the evil of human nature and how it can be used against us. Cheshunt where this novel is based within is not only a place of harboured evil but a choosing to be evil and the consequences of this for mankind. Within this novel it seems like evil has a way of repeating itself, “These witches were supposed to have stolen people’s pets and sacrificed them to the devil” (p.9). The readers were told about these witches so briefly as a part of the evil history of Cheshunt. Towards the end of the novel the same thing happens to Nathanial “I cuddled his limp, gruesome body to my chest, rocking backwards and forwards.” However it wasn’t the witches at this time but ordinary kids doing evils work, using something Nathanial loved and cared so deeply about and taking it so gruesomely away to make him fall into place in society.
People have goals everyday, believe it or not some people think that dreams aren't worth it. I believe that it is worth it to dream because it gives a person a goal, it makes them feel good, and it makes them stronger. Authors often make use of rhetorical strategies for additional effects, appeals to the reader, relating to an audience, or even for simply drawing attention to a specific section/part of a work. Nonetheless, these Rhetorical Strategies can prove crucial in the unraveling of such a work. The preceding is the case for a work entitled Something Wicked This Way Comes, by Ray Bradbury. Within the context of the story, a circus enters a small town and changes its overall atmosphere with never before seen mystical evils. Only two boys, Will Halloway and Jim Nightshade, stand in their way. These uncanny occurrences bring out the morality and malevolence of several characters in the story. In Bradbury’s work, there are many discrepancies in the moralities of each character relative to the development of the plot and their overall portrayal in the novel. Bradbury adds many instances in which certain characters have to make a choice between what they wish to do and what they should do. Such decisions accurately portray the conflict as an internal discontinuity between the ultimatums of good and evil. Thus, making the readers question his or her interpretation of each and challenge the societal parameters that encompass them.
Christopher Johnson McCandless, the main character in the book “Into the Wild,” had made a lot of friends even though he did not like people. So in conclusion, good friendship includes teamwork, trust, and having adventures.
Throughout Something Wicked This Way Comes there is an ongoing battle between good and evil, and many problems dealing with greed. In most stories good prevails, but things happen differently this time. The characters have problems with greed and evil thoughts, which will bring them misfortune throughout the story.
It is culturally expected that as a human being’s age increases, so does the amount of control they have over their own lives. However, when adolescents are allowed to have too little or too little great amount during their formative years, it can adversely affect their decision making process. In The Walls Around Us, Nova Ren Suma crafted young adult characters who, due to either having not enough or too much control over their own lives, react violently when placed in stressful situations.
According to Oxford Dictionary, the word “evil” is defined as, “profoundly immoral and wicked,” which can be interpreted in many different ways. In the story, “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, Miss Strangeworth’s point of view is completely different than the townsfolk’s opinion on who is provoking evil. In a small town, Ms. Strangeworth finds joy in sending unwanted, anonymous letters to innocent town’s people thinking that without these actions, her town would be entirely wicked. By using foreshadowing, the author effectively conveys the theme, “Evil is in the eyes of the beholder.” Symbolism is also used by the author to make the theme easier to understand. Capricorn (Cap) Anderson was a naive, 13 year old hippie, from the novel, Schooled, by Gordon Korman. Garland Farm was an isolated community that had once flourished with many people. At the onset of the novel just Cap lived at Garland Farm with his grandmother, Rain. She was his teacher, caregiver and protector from the real cruel world that she had left long ago. A tragic accident leaves Rain to face the reality that her grandson was now going to be thrusted into real life situations without her support and guidance.
American society has gone through several cultural changes over the recent decades. Something Wicked This Way Comes was written during a time of great social change; the author, Rad Bradbury, did a thorough job in reflecting the changing social environment of the 60s within his own characters. In 1962, the year in which Something Wicked This Way Comes was released, the youth of the United States were experiencing the Hippie movement, the adults of the 60s were dealing with the process of excepting their new found places in the world, and the society of the 60s faced an incessant issue with self acceptance. Bradbury managed to effectively interlink all of the factors mentioned above in one book.
Much work goes into musical , as was the case in “Catch Me If You Can”,which La Joya Middle School drama had the pleasure of watching on January 15, put on by El Diamante High School. The musical was directed by John Sorber and Michael Tackett. This amazing production included many talented actors such as Maverik Dakota Raven starring as Frank Abagnale Jr., Kiley Hoffman playing Brenda Strong, and Jonathan Johns as Carl Hanratty. This incredible play carried a strong lesson. As was seen the protagonist ran from his problems and pretended to be someone who he wasn't. The plot of this story showed us that we can't run from our problems, for that only worsens the situation and is a snowball for our problems.

In order to defeat the carnival, they team up and use the magic weapon of laughter against the Dust Witch through “She’s shot!” and “It’s alright! Shows over!
