Have you ever thought about changing your life completely around in a matter of time? Well in a matter of time you could change your life around with one small mistake in your game or when you lose your wife or have one huge win over a rival or win the lottery. In Jake Reinvented, Jake changed his whole life to try and get the girl of his dreams, Didi. Jake decided to go out for football for the first time, and throw huge parties for the school, dressed up with cooler clothes.
In Jake Reinvented, Jake Garrett changed everything about him to make sure he had made a good impression in Didi. He remembers back to his past when he use to be a math tutor for Didi when they use to go to their old school. “Jake used to go to McKinley! He was my math tutor. If it was not for him I would still be in the tenth grade.” P.42. He couldn’t remember Didi right away then she said “remember that time I had a test and we studied by the pool and you put sunscreen everywhere, but you forgot your nose.” P.43. That’s when he decided that he has to change for her now that they remember each other.
At a party when they were at Jakes they had found a t-shirt that said” Jake and Jen found a t-shirt that read McKinley math team 2001 and mathletes do it by the number that was about Jake’s size.” P.162. That’s when they started to question his past when Jen started calling him a nerd and Didi stood up for Jake. They had found his honor class awards and chess champions’ trophy, college papers, and him being a math tutor. In Jake Reinvented, Jake makes a great example of what can happen when you try to change for someone or something in life. When you try to cover up your past by saying you were a great football player and liked to party when in all reality you changed yourself for a girl who couldn’t even take the blame for hitting Nelson with a champagne bottle and making Jake get something that he didn’t even do is changing your world to try and impress others, when you should of just been yourself and stick with what you’re good with instead of changing, even if it means you’re mentoring students or part of the chess club or in love with dragons and dungeons, don’t change yourself to be somebody you think you can be because it isn’t worth the failure your setting yourself up for.

If you went off on a quest would you come back a changed person? “The Hero’s Journey isn’t just a pattern from myth. It’s the pattern of life, growth, and experience for all of us”(Harris and Thompson 49). Charles Portis is the author of True Grit, a western novel that takes place through the Indian Territory in Arkansas. In the novel True Grit, the character Mattie Ross, shows an interesting example of “The Hero’s Journey.” As we read we learn she is very outspoken and strong willed, she always wants things to be her way. Mattie shows us a great example of being very independent at the age of fourteen, but after her journey does she truly change as a person?
In the book Jake Reinvented the theme seems to be not to stress over the unimportant things but to focus on the little things and as times go by. In times in the book Jake focuses on having fun and living life to the fullest. In this book the main character is Jake Garrett who is a smart kid who is the long snapper on the football time and likes to throw lots of wild parties. He tends to some times in the story veer away and party too much and get in trouble.
People can change their ways overtime in a positive way. Everyone has experienced change once in their life. Some people have acknowledged change over the course of life in a positive way or a negative way. Throughout the novel “The First Stone” by Don Aker, the main character Reef alters his ways a lot positively. Reef is a teenager who changes his lifestyle and makes a huge impact in his life after he meets Leeza. This novel develops the fact that people can change in a beneficial way, no matter what situation they are in.
The novel Tangerine, written by Edward Bloor, perfectly demonstrates how a character can change their ways and learn lessons. When the protagonist, Paul Fisher, was first introduced, he was a shy, quiet kid, who never tried to change his situation. He has a terrible relationship with his brother, Erik, and is literally terrified of him and what he will do to him. In the beginning of the book, he was moving from Houston, Texas to his new home in Tangerine, Florida. In his fresh start to life in Tangerine, he learns that he shouldn’t be scared, and that he needs to start standing up for himself and letting his voice, thoughts, and opinions be heard. Even though Paul starts off scared, afraid, intimidated, and full of self doubt, he learns that he needs to change his ways and attitude towards his life, and to take action to make things right.
Everyday people are put into several situations in which they have to conduct themselves accordingly. This may mean that they need to reinvent themselves. In many pieces of literature, characters are thrown into circumstances that require them to change who they are and how they act. In the novel The Art Of Racing In The Rain the author Garth Stein illustrates many situations where one or more characters are forced to change who they are and how they live. Yann Martel wrote, “It is circumstance that enables is to reinvent ourselves and the world around us.” Denny is put in certain circumstances in which he is forced to change his life. Buying Enzo, Eve dying and his court battle with the Twins made him reinvent himself constantly.
The story begins with Jake driving on the freeway. He is so enraptured by his daydream of better possibilities that he ends up smacking the car ahead of him. Jake considers driving away but instead he stops and finds out that the owner of the Toyota he hit was a beautiful girl. From there, Jake switches into his smooth talker role with Mariana. Jake then tries to con her by saying he doesn't have any insurance and assures her that he will pay for it. As he drives away, he sees Mariana behind him writing down the license plate numbers that he stole from another car.
Jake has experience lying to people “he took a moment or two to feel both proud and sad about his performance” (250). Unfortunately, Jake never learns his lesson “His sense of freedom swelled as he drove into the now moving street traffic, though he couldn’t stop the thought about that FM stereo radio and crushes velvet interior and the new car smell that would even make it better” (250). Jake continuous down the road he thinks is going to get him everything he wants, even though he has no job or insurance.
Some people go through life thinking they are invincible or a bad until events happen in your life where you find out whether your bad or not. People go through this all the time and this is part of growing up. In "Greasy Lake:" by T.C. Boyle, the narrator of this story undergoes a "character arc;" by the end of the story he has developed more as a character (i.e undergone changes), and is noticeably different than he was at the onset of the narrative.
Michael changed drastically over the course of only a few weeks. He learned more about his friends, family, and himself than he ever wanted to know.
To avoid misunderstanding and delusional thinking, truthfulness is a key factor. Sparks Of Genius: Transforming- In the fourteenth chapter of the novel, Sparks Of Genius, the chapter discusses how transformations of an idea will have different results from what we expected. The greater the transformation, the more surprising or unexpected the result will be. Once we are aware of transformations, we will know what to expect which further expands our creative thinking. Growing up with my best friend, I was able to see how he changed as a person. He was always extremely quiet and did not like to meet new people. We went to the same elementary school and not once did he attempt to make new friends due to social anxiety. Later on we went to different high schools and we did not see or speak with one another for a few years. I coincidentally ran into him at the mall and he was transformed into a completely different person. The boy who I once knew as shy and antisocial was now loud, energetic, and quite popular. It was something I did not expect and I assumed many other things about the type of person he may have become as soon as I saw who he has changed
“All the time when I speak to you, even now, I'm saying not precisely what I think, but what will impress you and make you respond. That's so even between us - and how much more it's so where there are stronger motives for deception” (p141). Jake himself narrates this quote here. It is very clear that Jake believes that what people say or appear to others is not their true self. He is in a journey of exploration. It is possible that Jake is also a reflection of the author, to show how reality and truth are interconnected.
Avatar opens with an introduction to a futuristic world by Jake. He opens his eyes, and is in the midst of a large swarm of people on all sides. As the camera pans out, Jake begins to speak and it is seen that he is in a wheelchair. Along with his dialogue, this visual shot immediately gives the audience the opportunity to see just how much Jake does not fit in to the society surrounding him. He ironically ‘stands out’ in the crowds of people due to his unique situation. As the audience is introduced to him, Jake is seen going through his daily motions, but with more of a struggle than an average person would experience. His internal commentary on what he goes through further sets him apart from everyone around him. However, even as he says, “Strong prey on the weak. It’s just the way things are. Nobody does a damn thing.”, as he witnesses a man hitting a women at the bar, he proceeds to wheel himself over and attack the man as best he can. This shows that even though he criticizes the society around him for behaving in a certain way, he does not follow the social convention of ‘nobody...
