Motivational interviewing is an important tool to utilize when assisting clients with the process of change. The goal of motivational interviewing is to help an individual see their own potential and to gain the desire for change. It helps the individual explore their current situation and what their future may look like, from there they can decide whether it is worth making that change. For this assignment, my partner Jenessa and I each took a turn being a interviewer and a client. When I was the motivator, Jenessa acted as a women who was in need to go through a detox program in order to get a new liver. It was a big transition in her life, and she was struggling to come into terms with that. In the interview, we discussed her progress thus far, what her goals are, and how she can implement change.
Community service is something that I have always engaged. In college, I worked with chemically dependent children as both a caretaker and a mentor. After I graduated, I taught at-risk children in a community youth outreach program. To remain involved and aware of the focus of my studies during my first year of law school, I volunteered at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center teaching youth their basic legal rights. Essentially, we strove to empower kids by providing practical information about the legal system and to help them develop more favora...
For my twelve hours of community service I went to the Boys & Girls club in Erie, Pennsylvania. While at the Boys and Girls club I had noticed a variety of different things in regards to the population
Great, I had a positive professional relationship with the staff. I made myself available to assist with various assignments to build a rapport with all the staff members. In the beginning I thought some of the staff was standoffish, but after working with all individually I realize everyone has task they are trying to complete and time is limited to fraternize and build rapport in a busy setting.
I performed my community service at a local elementary school. I chose this place because of its relative ease, and it was also an area I could easily get to and from. I started my first day very confused and out of character. The school was very bland, and it brought back memories of the time that I had attended elementary school.
I have always been involved in groups that perform community service projects. In fact, I was recently elected to as VP of Public Relations of the Student MOVE group. We are a group of 12 individuals that are the advisory committee for all of the community service organizations on campus, but we organize many alternative activities and events. I even did a service learning project for my Spanish class last semester with Cynthia Wells. I attended the Spanish mass every Sunday, and I was a greeter. I learned their culture and rituals while still attending the usual Catholic Mass.
It all started when I was in high-school. I volunteered at Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. These volunteering experiences opened my eyes to the needs of my community and the many opportunities for community service.

Banks used to staff dozens of tellers at each branch to handle routine transactions; Now, many staffers work on other tasks, such as sales or account maintenance.
Behavioral interviewing is a common practice in interviews today. Employers want to know what potential employees have experienced or what their reaction to situations are. The questions I am looking at include: Tell me About how you worked effectively under pressure, what do you do if you disagree with someone at work, give an example of how you worked on a team, have you ever made a mistake if yes how did you handle it and have you handled a difficult situation, How? These are all potential questions that employers could ask in a behavioral interview.
Over the years in high school and elementary school, my family has done a huge amount of community service. I used to do it with my family until I got older and was able to drive. In high school, I did a lot of community service not only to get into college, but because it was something I enjoyed personally. I did everything from Adopt a Family for Christmas to picking up garbage off the ground in my town. My family has made community service a very important thing for us. We always try to help out in any way we can, because it feels good to help and because we would want someone to do these things for us. My mother has also always bought meals for the people on the street or handed them extra water bottles we had laying in the car. Little things like handing out needs to a stranger in need of help, is something I have always felt great about. Now, I always try to help out the people on the street. Due to my immense amount of community service, I had won a $1,500 scholarship that twelve other people were running for in my school. I deserved it and I’m proud of myself for everything I accomplished during my time in high school. I will continue to help out as much as I can.
