Summary Prisoners are put into solitary confinement for two reasons, for disciplinary purposes or for protection. Our argument is, is a life sentence of solitary confinement a cruel and unusual punishment. A life sentence of solitary confinement means the isolation of a prisoner between 22-24 hours a day in a separate cell as a punishment, with a sentence ranging from days to years. There are 80,000 Americans currently held in solitary confinement. We believe a life sentence of solitary confinement is not a cruel and unusual punishment . We believe this because we think some people don't change after they are released from solitary confinement .Yes we understand that Solitary confinement can be cruel but it is better than killing the person …show more content…

They could replace it to something worse. Also if someone did a terrible crime and is released from solitary confinement, they could go and the same crime again or do something worse than before. Sometimes people do bad crimes and don't have long sentences for it. Like if someone murdered another person they would sometimes get a maximum of 10 years. What if someone comes to your door to tell you that a family member or a Friend has been murdered by someone. You would want that person to be locked up for what they done.If that person murdered someone you know and wouldn't you want that person to get a life sentence of solitary confinement Sometimes people who did a bad crime like murdering someone get sent to solitary confinement for a short time. Then the family member of the person that was murdered will feel like they didn't do enough punishment to that person. also It provides an added level of protection for the public, by keeping prisoners who are more likely to commit crimes away from others. It also keeps other prisoners safe from the more dangerous ones. Many family members of the victims feel safer knowing those kind of prisoners who have hurt families are somewhere where they belong. This kind of punishment keeps security guards
